Operation: Gigas Freedom

[OOC Notes: This upcoming event will not go live until June 5th, depending on the result of the votes. No matter what decision is made here, either will have a dramatic impact on the game and especially that of how the game will ultimately end. This is the first of several much larger events as we begin to wrap up major plot points that have been established since very early in the game, and expect the stakes to start getting higher as these events progress]

The feed flickers on to reveal a rather more serious looking Celito and Maeve. They exchange glances and nods, before Celito launches in.

“Hey everyone, Celito here. The Seekers have convened and have issued a directive. If at all possible, it is our duty to free the gods imprisoned by Gigas and return them to their natural state. Unfortunately, with the resources of the Seekers being dedicated to research, this is essentially impossible for us to achieve on our own. So, we’ve come to Union with a proposal. Right now, we have a fairly good idea of the defenses of Gigas, but as we understand we cannot rely on them to remain unchanged for very long, Gigan military is highly professional and they change patterns and routines regularly. I expect it’d be especially true with the Gigases. Right now may be the only opportunity we have to break in and free the Gigases. We don’t come to ask this lightly. We are asking the Union Alliance to join us in liberating the Gigases. We have brought this proposal to your Council and they have authorized us to proceed - if the will of the people will support it. We’re asking for your help, we need to free the Gigases and we can’t wait for another chance. Please, will you help us?”

Giving her brother a nod, Maeve directs her attention to the feed again.

“This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime chance, but it isn’t gonna be easy. There’s a lot that could go wrong here.” Averting her eyes from the camera, Maeve purses her lips into a frown. “We can’t do this by ourselves. We need your help going forward, but we understand if something like this seems too dangerous. Union’s done its best to stay impartial for the most part, but that might not be the case if you help us. Think about that before saying yes.”

[OOC: Voting is live as of now. The question: will the Union Alliance proceed with the attack on Gigas and attempt to liberate the Gigases? This could very well cause an international incident with Gigas, but as stated, another chance will likely not come again. It’s now or never. OOC discussion and IC discussion threads are open, only 1 vote per player please. As before, votes will generally be weighted with the assumption that PCs are in the streets advocating their position. As a reminder, the vote you cast should be your OOC opinion: do you want to go forward with attacking Gigas and freeing the Gigases, or do you want to leave Gigas alone and allow the Gigases to remain trapped, perhaps for good.]

Can you guarantee that freeing the gods will not have them seek retribution and revenge on the citizens in their anger? I don't think the Gigases should be held captive, but I refuse to see an entire city decimated and innocent blood shed because of it. We already know that there are enough gods who seek our destruction as it is.

You are asking us to also risk war when we're still incredibly vulnerable from said example of gods wanting us dead.

What exactly are you willing to provide on your side of the alliance?

As I posed the questions earlier to Celito-san, there are far too many unanswered questions.

For one, I want to know if they can guarantee that freeing the gods will not have them seek retribution and revenge on the citizens in their anger. I don't think the Gigases should be held captive, but I refuse to see an entire city decimated and innocent blood shed because of it. As I said before as well, we already know that there are enough gods who seek our destruction as it is.

Celito-san is asking us to also risk war when we're still incredibly vulnerable from said example of gods wanting us dead but was not initially willing to explain what exactly they are willing to provide on their side of the alliance should we take their side.

We can't afford war with Gigas, nor can Gigas, clearly.

I will not see us go into something blindly. Time may be of the essence but we are the ones who will bear the brunt of the consequences.

If they want our assistance, to finally take a side in this rather than remain impartial, I feel that we insist we have more than vague "notions" of things, more than "we know this will be dangerous and difficult." Actual plans and contingencies are a must if we're going to risk war and our city again.

Your complete lack of facts, or at least your unwillingness to share them, is incredibly unacceptable. [She's not impressed and don't even try to play that card, Celito, you aren't going to make her suddenly change her tone.]

Unless you can provide actual facts, plans, and contingencies, you're asking us to risk war, god retribution, and the destruction of a city in the off chance that the gods aren't already aware that their brethren aren't held captive.

I am thinking of the possible thousands upon hundreds of thousands of lives of pokemon and people alike being risked by releasing the gods. What are your plans? If it's not going to be easy, why? What is it you intend to do? What are you offering to protect this weak city in place of the war and possible godly wrath you're asking to bring down on our heads? If you can offer nothing, then you are asking us to bear all the consequences and you'll what, exactly? Apologize profusely to the rubble to be left behind?

If you've given this thought, then please demonstrate it and spare us the insult of trying to convince us with vague platitudes of "we know it isn't gonna be easy" and "there's a lot that could go wrong."

Treat us as equals and share what you know or don't be surprised to find many answering you with "no" for all the multiple reasons I just mentioned prior.

[Damn, and this is almost what Harry was calling for himself just a few short weeks ago. Gigas has always been his enemy, since pretty much as long as he could remember, but having actually visited the place and seeing the people there, not just the military machine....]

What kind of plan do you have in case the Gigases decide that the city needs to be turned into a pancake? That's a lot of lives to put at risk without any kind of assurances.

Uhm.....I was with the group that found one of them, [Waver spoke up quietly, sounding somewhat anxious as he recalled those brief moments in that chamber.] And I don't think the one called Regigigas would retaliate. If anything, he sounded more tired and worried about us than angry.

You can ask Raine or Sophia to confirm, if you want to. And, while I don't agree with how vague the Seekers are being about this, I don't want to just leave them there either. The people running Gigas are doing something to them, and I'm more afraid of what can happen if we let it continue and the gods who do like us find out.

Celito... please don't hold back. Tell us the worst-case scenario, how many people would die if we free the Gigases and they decide to and can't be deterred from revenge. Seekers desire to retrieve knowledge and bring it out - and you can't hold that knowledge away, no matter how unpleasant it is.

They do need to be free, but you can't ask people to take such a risk without knowing the full consequence.

[Councilman Palpatine appears. Unless this wouldn't go to him. In which case Palpatine is off staring out a window and smiling. BUT LET'S SAY IT DID because you're at work, I'm in an airport, we can figure it out if not!]

Thank you for telling us about these dangers. While I am loathe to compromise Union's neutrality...

Times have grown dark and dire. The death of Councilman Tycoon in the attack, the existence of the Elite Four, and the knowledge that they could control gods is disquieting in the extreme.

We must do whatever is necessary, no matter how heavy it weighs upon our hearts.

It's possible they'd be grateful enough to their liberators to let humans handle humans. [Even as he says it, the Analyst can tell that he knows he's giving the best case scenario.]

It's a tough decision. We really can't leave Gods held captive. That's just completely unacceptable, but having found out how a minority of them /still/ feel about humans?

[He frowns, taking his glasses off to clean them.]

Worst case scenario is those like the 'Elite' Four get to the captive gods, convince them to join with them to 'finish what they started.' It won't just be Gigas, then. We're stronger than we were before, and have some gods on our side, but who knows how long that will last if they discover that we knew about this and did nothing. If the gods turn against humanity again, yours might be the last generation. As a Sword, as a Father, I can't let that happen.

If the Gigases aren't free, honestly we wouldn't have a chance anyway. This'll at least knock a bit of the wind out of their sails. People have come together to aid Union when it comes down to it before, and a lot of them have a score to settle with Gigas.

But I know, the odds suck either way. If Gigas really wanted to, they could rain fire and brimstone on the city and we couldn't really do much about it. But if they have the Gigases on their side, you can guarantee the city would be a lot worse off. There might not be a city left.

I'm not even sure we can really trust the Seekers. We helped them already, and then they left, taking what was found, and not giving us any clue as to what was going on. No one's been able to really answer why those Gigases are even being held in there in the first place.

Whatever happened to that stone we got? You guys took off with it and didn't say nothin' as to what was going on or what it was. I mean, clearly it was a Megastone, but what for and why'd you take it? Where is it now?

How do we know you guys aren't just gonna abandon us in there once you get what you want?
