[There seems to be a bit of a scene in front of the Pokemon Habitat today. Some other teens seem to be accosting another one, who is standing with a stony expression on his face. If you move closer to the group, you might overhear the conversation; they're not exactly quiet about it.

"Hey, we should contact the authorities. Some idiot let the Murder Nerd have Pokemon, ha ha."

"Hey little Axew, how about you come be my Pokemon instead? You'll live longer. Ha ha ha ha.

Man, where'd you get this Smeargle? It's WAY too cool looking for you -- hey, the little bastard just ruined my shirt! Lousy --"

You might know the one standing by saying nothing, although he does seem to stand up for his own Pokemon here and there. When people say terrible things to HIM, however, he shuts up for some reason. Is this something you even want to get in the middle of?]

[Hell, you don't look sociable with humans, much less pokemon]

... Y'know. [He actually thinks about it] For me, the key was kind of. Find what you have in common. Stuff like tastes or personality... or goals. This one [he nods towards Flabébé] likes me and I'm not even sure why, but Sraggy came with me cause we had a goal in common... and Mari did the same with that giant Nidoking who was rampaging back in the lower city.

But how am I supposed to know how to do that if I cannot communicate with them directly?

Well you can sort of do that with the Band, right? Or maybe ask this guy [nodding towards Takuro] to help you.

Worst case scenario, ask someone who can talk to them. Some Enlightened can.

[Apparently not well enough, but.]

As good of advice as any, I suppose.

Speaking of talking to those who can communicate with Pokemon, I should probably get going soon. I hope the people who agreed to help me out have not been kept waiting too long.

[Well, Hiroshi won't have to look long because there's a certain Atsuro heading in the direction of you two. Mostly because Kaido's there, and partly because while he has never seen Hiroshi yet something tells him the glasses and scarf guy might be him. He beams at you both]

[Mari's following close behind Atsuro. She waves a bit at Kaido, before turning to smile at the unfamiliar face, assuming that he's the boy Atsuro's made plans with.]

...Ah, hello. You are the one that offered to help, right? I do not believe I received your name, although I am assuming that you -- *nodding to Mari* -- would be Mari?

[Wait, you know each other?--oh. Atsuro. He smirks]

I'm not even surprised.

Hey Kaido. I didn't know you knew Hiroshi, too!

[And he's turning to Hiroshi with a dumb grin on his face]

Anyway, nice to actually meet you, Hiroshi! You're right, that's miss Mari, and I'm Atsuro.

Yes, it's very nice to meet you. Atsuro's told me you're having a problem with your Pokemon, correct? How may I help?

A pleasure to meet you as well. Ah... I suppose it's less a problem with my Pokemon specifically, although I do get the sense they listen more to Takuro than me. It's more a problem with Pokemon in general, I suppose. I... seem to have a hard time understanding them enough to form bonds without help.

[You get another grin from Atsuro]

It's alright! That can happen, especially if you weren't brought up with Pokemon around. I think Pokemon can be easy to understand, once you learn to be patient and open enough. You know, when I was little, I was scared of some Pokemon, especially some of the bigger ones! My parents had books with some really detailed illustrations and explanations on how dangerous they can be, so that didn't help. But there were other interesting things to learn about Pokemon so I grew more used to it, and then my Togepi came along, and, well, I'm more than fine now!

[She smiles patiently and nods as Atsuro finishes up his infodump.]

As Atsuro says, it's not that unusual of a problem. And every Pokemon is different, so reaching an understanding with one may not work the same way twice. What specifically do you find difficult about forming a bond? Do you feel like you can't keep their attention, or that they don't take you seriously, or anything like that?

[Hiroshi shifted. What WAS the problem, exactly?]

I suppose the matter of taking me seriously is the biggest issue I have.

[There was... another one. But he didn't feel that needed to be discussed.]

Hmm... As in, they don't pay attention to you and disobey you? It could be because they don't see you as authoritative enough, but that doesn't have to be true for all Pokemon. Most of them would still listen to you as their friend! So... maybe they don't feel like they can trust you? Or that you can't trust them. I think Pokemon sense distrust and uncertainty better than people...

[Very good, Atsuro! She'd give you a gold star if she had one.]

If the difficulty is the intial bond more than anything else, then the problem may be a lack of authority. Presenting yourself as a good potential partner can be difficult, but coming across as confident and sincere in wanting to be one helps. Not to say that you should be pushy, but Pokemon will be more likely to take your request seriously if they believe you're also serious.

Ah, of course, I'm only guessing. And it's hard to give any kind of real rule about bonding when Pokemon all respond differently to different attitudes. This is just what has been successful in my own experience.

[But he can't deny the fact that he still had issues with Pokemon. Fear? Confusion? He can't really pin it down. Somehow, he feels like he doesn't really want to bring it up though.]

I suppose that makes sense, though. I will try to approach things from a different perspective. Thank you.

I think miss Mari is right! Did you know, she even managed to bond like that with a Nidoking that was attacking us! Which, I guess, goes to show what you can do if you try. So today's moral is that you've got to reach out to them sincerely!

[He grins at you confidently]

Oh, and I'm sure it could help with Pokemon you've already bonded with. Are you having any problems communicating with them?

Ah, that's right. I think you mentioned that they don't listen to you as well as you'd like?
