Twelfth Dream: Mankeyshines and Snapshots [Action/Video]

[A new year, and a whole mixed bag of revelations and resolutions are weighing on Yuuna. It's been a while since she made any formal broadcasts, and seated in Ranger HQ, she idly flips on the Warp Band and just starts talking.]

Hey everyone. Got a little bit new news, personal stuff. Figured I'd just announce it all at once. First of all, I got a promotion. I'm the 3rd Division leader now. My old one retired, and I got some recognition for past service. So, I'll probably be around Union a little bit more than usual. Heh. Paperwork.

Moreover, I've been named the Ranger Liason to the Seekers. Most of you can imagine why.

[She smiles wryly, knowing certain parties are going to like that.]

Second, given my new job, I'm supposed to officially announce that my division is officially recruiting. We pay alright, and you'd be working directly for me. If you're interested, or have further questions about the Rangers in general, feel free to stop by HQ. I'll be around late.

Ranger HQ:

[And true to her word? She is. If you have questions that won't work over the Warp Band, Yuuna will be there until dusk.]

Action, Apartment:

[And after hearing this particular announcement, a certain Pokemon of hers is up to no good. Turnip, the Monferno, is so excited by hearing about the promotion that he decides to bake a cake or something.

Something is right, because he's completely incapable of cooking, and it's not long before a billowing cloud of smoke pours out of Yuuna and Merrill's apartment and the Pokemon are forced out into the street. Alarms go off, and the Monferno bolts for it on principle. The fire is dealt with pretty quickly by Uzushio, but the smoke seems to linger somehow...creating quite the scene outside as a panicked Monferno runs back and forth in confusion, grabbing random passersby and gesticulating wildly, jabbering away. Help! Help! The boss is going to kill himmmmm!]

There's no training program or prerequisits or anything? You know I'm not very good at all this outdoors stuff yet!

And you've been on enough exploratory missions now that I think you'd qualify. You don't actually have to take a patrol or anything. Just...record. Like you do anyway.

...You're right, that doesn't sound very different from my arrangement with Merrill at all. And, as we're exploring more and more places, someone has to keep track of all of those details.

But, you're really sure it's going to be okay? I've only been in Union for about six months now, and never set foot out of the city before that.

You're right. and beyond photos, I don't have time for proper notes. Since something's usually attempting to eat my face.

[And she's usually having to fight something...]

As to that? Waver, it doesn't make a lick of difference. You'll be working for me. I have authority to hire at my leisure. It doesn't pay a ton, but...it's also not work every single day.

The pay wasn't even something I was thinking about, [he confessed, looking a little embarrassed by the admission. A poor kid growing up gets used to not having a lot of money-- he just doesn't even factor it into his calculations too much anymore.] And getting enough to cover the cost of longer pants and a good coat will be more than enough for me.

Besides, you're right. It's something I'm doing anyway. Making it official is only reasonable, at this point.

Oh, a new outfit is one of the signup bonuses. We'll get you fitted for one soon enough.

[So, whenever Waver does the paperwork, of course.]

It's pretty self-explanatory really, though. I have a pretty simple filing system and all, you should have no trouble.

[She's a tidy person, generally.]

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Uniforms are important for most organizations like this, even if you're just working in records-- and I think I'll figure out your system easy enough. Most are pretty straight forward.

...That doesn't change the fact that I need clothes for every day, and sewing is just another good way for someone to get hurt!

You do. and you'll get paid well enough for that. We have a signing bonus as well, so whenever you get down here and sign the paperwork for that...I can have that delivered to your accounts.

That'll be this afternoon, then-- whenever is good for you.

You are still at the same place, right?

Well I have a real office now. It's across the hall from my old desk.

Huh. That won't be hard to find at all. Want me to pick up food on the way?

Oh! Yeah. Sure, if you like. I skipped lunch.

I'll pick up something from that ramen shop you took me to before, in that case. Anything specific you want?

Hmmm. The same thing we got last time? I don't change up the food much.

[--That was good to know. He was already tying his hair back and making mental calculations of his current budget to factor in a pair of noodle bowls for the afternoon.]

Okay, good. I'll be there soon.

['Soon' being less than an hour. He arrived in his woolen hat and somewhat too small coat, two carriers of noodles in his hands as he walked through the building in search of Yuuna's new office...]

[He'd find it without any real difficulty, the door hanging open and Yuuna poking her head out at the smell of the food. She looked him up and down and nodded, stepping out and reaching to take both bowls.]

Yo. [He's definitely getting taller...] This is my place. Kinda untidy right now but I'm not done moving yet.

[It's a pretty spartan place honestly. But bigger, and it has an actual door!]

Have a seat, eat!

Untidy isn't bad when you've got this much space!

[Carefully picking his way around the mess, Waver found himself admiring the door and the view from the windows before he found a seat-- and carefully put some boxes aside so that they could have some elbow room to work with. Though he may be getting a little taller, he's still a scrawny thing who is all clumsy knees and grumpy complaints.]

--Actually, I was doing some thinking, and this job might not be such a bad thing after all, [he said, looking around the mess for napkins, tableware, and the like.] Some more academics from Sanctuary are turning up, and they've got questions of their own.

[There's some food related stuff sticking out of a box, so he'll be able to get all that taken care of. Taking her own bowl, Yuuna plucks out a pair of chopsticks and passes him a fork before settling down and uncovering her bowl.]

Yeah? I ran into one earlier. Miss Sage? She seems nice, but should I be worried?

Raine? [Waver lifted the lid to his own bowl as well, glad that Yuuna had a fork around for someone who was still clumsy with chopsticks. He shook his head and waved his hand-- as if to dismiss the worries.] No, no. She's not a problem!

But, she is the one I was thinking of. Has she spoken to you yet? I know she's spoken with Merrill about some things, but she had a photograph she was asking me questions about.

[Yuuna's eyebrow lifts slightly.]

She showed me the photo. Her Salvation Day gift. I copied it down, actually. And I'm going to look into it. It's in the Eastern Steppes, but in an area we haven't fully surveyed yet.

[He smiled now, a little shy.]

I had a feeling you might want to help with that one. Thanks, Yuuna-- I wasn't entirely sure what to tell her about it.

No problem. If there's anyone in Union more qualified for that kind of thing, I've never met them.

[Seriously, she's good at this sort of thing.]

It just needs some surveying. No big deal. I've been meaning to head that way anyway.

It might be best to wait until the weather clears up-- travelling alone in the snow is dangerous. Enlightened or not, no one wants you getting hurt.

I'm not going alone? Merrill's been looking for excuses to get out too. And I'll have my Pokemon.

Remember, Waver? It's my job to patrol, and it's not even a day's flight out.

[Were the weather a little warmer, he'd be less worried, but old habits from Sanctuary had him wanting to curl up in a big bundle of heavy blankets with his books and something very hot but very unhealthy to eat on the table.

This wasn't travelling weather. This was becoming a fixture in a comfy chair weather.]

Well, when you put it like that, it's hard to argue.

Just leave me with all the proper information to help people. I'm used to working independently...not like this.
