Event - The White Dragon Travel Log

[It's a lengthy journey even by air, that our intrepid heroes find themselves on. The veteran fliers set a quick, but not grueling pace at the suggestion of the Valkyries. Arriving to a battleground when a god had taken the field tired was not wise, they'd said, and who could really blame them? The prospect alone of facing down one of the beasts of legend would be enough to send most men fleeing in the opposite direction, but one who was working with a human? That was all the more reason to make sure that proper care was taken on the trek. And so for a day the party traveled, a caravan of birds, dragons, reptiles and the odd flying robot making steady time across the Rolling Plains before setting down at the north-eastern edge.

The curious would find that not far from where the tents were pitched, the green hills turned jagged, the land going from verdant to a sea of dark glass. Obsidian shards spiked upwards, spires gleaming in the moonlight like razor sharp teeth, setting an ominous tone for the evening's respite. Tents were pitched, fires were lit, and the more warlike companions even began a drum circle and dance. Valkyries and shirtless Calderan volunteers, a small number of visiting mages, and other more mysterious folks all curious to see the god and to help with the relief efforts. The camp, despite the circumstances, was at least a lively one.

And then came the final day.

Over the Obsidian Flats they went, the massive shapes of Boldore and Tyranitar visible even from up in the sky. And...further perhaps even more stunningly, a gigantic lake almost large enough to call an inland sea, sprawled out below. Rivers snaked out of it all around, and the water itself was a pure crystal blue. But perhaps the most awe inspiring sight of the whole journey came once they cleared the Flats and the area around Glacier came into view. An expanse of white, thick snow covering the ground this early in the year. Arctic forests cropped up here and there, snowcapped trees and a frigid looking river marring the perfect canvas beneath. And more Pokemon , of course. Gigantic Avalugg shook the ground below, and a new species plodded along, chewing amiably on the trees, largely unconcerned by the humans overhead, and the occurrences in the distance.

Along the coast a city was in flames, people streaming out of its ruined gates, desperately fleeing along the rivers before whatever it was came back. Smoke curled up along the skyline, burned hamlets and outlying settlements that'd already been destroyed.

It seems like they weren't too late, and it in the moment of respite there was a chance for our heroes to at least get their bearings and prepare for the Dragon God's return...]

[OOC: We will be opening some of these areas for bonding within the next few days for everyone who is taking part in the expedition.]

[ Haruka's shoulders twitch in surprise when she gets the message, but she raises a hand in an "all right" gesture. Everything's fine up here. Just fine -

Uranus sneezes.

It is not a quiet sneeze. ]

[Yeah, between that and the ice she sees forming, she's going to follow along a little closer behind Uranus. It's impossible to warp in Toyo up here...or Inari, for that matter.]

I think the cold's starting to strain Uranus.

[Man is Rise glad she's thinking that instead of saying it.]

[ Haruka is starting to get that impression, yes. Not about her Pokémon naming sense, though. Her Pokémon naming sense is flawless. She checks on Uranus physically, taking in the case of the sniffles the dragon is forming and then casting a glance back at that tail. Then she closes her eyes and concentrates on Uranus's mental state.

While still linked, she encourages the Pokémon to drop down lower in the atmosphere. Easy. Easy. The sky will wait for them.

She lags back so that Rise could, if she so desired, pull up alongside them. ] She's not contagious.

[ And thank you, by the way. Absurd dragon doesn't know its limits. ]

I know.

[Speaking out loud now - Hagoromo appreciates the opportunity to cruise instead of flapping to keep up with the larger flyer.]

You look like you're enjoying yourselves.

[ Uranus roars assent, beating her wings to make a point. Flying! She's flying!

Haruka laughs. ] We won't have time for that soon enough.

[Rise nods, soberly.]

Still, it's great when they grow up, isn't it?

[ That it is. (They should get Michiru's Togepi checked out at the clinic, come to think of it. It appears to have swallowed an Everstone.)

Thinking about Togepi makes Haruka think about eggs, and also realize how little she knows about Rise's team beyond their battle utility. But strength of Bonds is another form of that. ] How many of yours did you hatch?

[ Uranus makes a happy rumble that probably means she qualifies. ]

Only a couple, actually, and Kaneda's the only one I take out for anything serious. Baby Pokémon are adorable, but there's something about going out and meeting a new species, too...

[ That's right, Rise does a lot of exploring. ] You're an adventurer.

And then much later when my mind is out of angst mode

Hehe, well, I don't know about that. I like adventure, though.

when haruka tried to get her angst on she found a tiny dinosaur. it is quite countereffective.

[actsmagnificent]

This is the right line of work. [ Uranus swishes her tail back and forth, surprised at the pins-and-needles feeling when it wakes back up. Turbulence incoming. ]

...Whoops.

[Hagoromo whirls out of the larger flyer's wash with the expertise of someone with flocking instincts. Rise calls out from slightly farther away.]

Maybe you should take a break! Cooldown is important when exercising!

[actsmagnificent]

[ Haruka would dearly love to sass about that but knows Rise has a point. She pats Uranus's neck and looks over her shoulder at her fellow thespian. ] Don't completely outstrip us.

[ Down they go. Uranus isn't sure why Haruka is having her descend (she wants to keep flying!! She's okay!!), but she's also on the verge of sneezing. Haruka may have to look out for this particular Pokémon since she won't do so herself. ]
