Event - The White Dragon Travel Log

[It's a lengthy journey even by air, that our intrepid heroes find themselves on. The veteran fliers set a quick, but not grueling pace at the suggestion of the Valkyries. Arriving to a battleground when a god had taken the field tired was not wise, they'd said, and who could really blame them? The prospect alone of facing down one of the beasts of legend would be enough to send most men fleeing in the opposite direction, but one who was working with a human? That was all the more reason to make sure that proper care was taken on the trek. And so for a day the party traveled, a caravan of birds, dragons, reptiles and the odd flying robot making steady time across the Rolling Plains before setting down at the north-eastern edge.

The curious would find that not far from where the tents were pitched, the green hills turned jagged, the land going from verdant to a sea of dark glass. Obsidian shards spiked upwards, spires gleaming in the moonlight like razor sharp teeth, setting an ominous tone for the evening's respite. Tents were pitched, fires were lit, and the more warlike companions even began a drum circle and dance. Valkyries and shirtless Calderan volunteers, a small number of visiting mages, and other more mysterious folks all curious to see the god and to help with the relief efforts. The camp, despite the circumstances, was at least a lively one.

And then came the final day.

Over the Obsidian Flats they went, the massive shapes of Boldore and Tyranitar visible even from up in the sky. And...further perhaps even more stunningly, a gigantic lake almost large enough to call an inland sea, sprawled out below. Rivers snaked out of it all around, and the water itself was a pure crystal blue. But perhaps the most awe inspiring sight of the whole journey came once they cleared the Flats and the area around Glacier came into view. An expanse of white, thick snow covering the ground this early in the year. Arctic forests cropped up here and there, snowcapped trees and a frigid looking river marring the perfect canvas beneath. And more Pokemon , of course. Gigantic Avalugg shook the ground below, and a new species plodded along, chewing amiably on the trees, largely unconcerned by the humans overhead, and the occurrences in the distance.

Along the coast a city was in flames, people streaming out of its ruined gates, desperately fleeing along the rivers before whatever it was came back. Smoke curled up along the skyline, burned hamlets and outlying settlements that'd already been destroyed.

It seems like they weren't too late, and it in the moment of respite there was a chance for our heroes to at least get their bearings and prepare for the Dragon God's return...]

[OOC: We will be opening some of these areas for bonding within the next few days for everyone who is taking part in the expedition.]

Excellen Browning | OTA (15 minutes late with Sawsbucks)

[ The trip out was met with relative, almost contemplative quiet from the blond. Even heading into battle, Excellen was often chatty--to ease any kind of jitters, both for herself and her comrades. But that playful nature was absent. Was the cold getting to her maybe, or was it something else?

She had been somewhat distant lately...

But the cold certainly didn't help. If anything, it made it even worse.

While she was distant as they traveled, once they pitched camp, Excellen was her vivacious almost-self. It was a bit forced, admittedly, and she drank a bit more than she usually would, laughed a little louder than she usually would, and cuddled up "friendly-like" with anyone who would let her--and even those who wouldn't.

Especially to those who didn't want to, because what is personal space? ]

Hey, whatcha doin'? Hmmmm?

[Kyosuke, meanwhile, is sitting on the floor and has disassembled his stake apparatus, which he is in the process of cleaning]

Weapon maintenance.

[platinumlucifer]

Whaaaat? You're working? But we're supposed to be relaxing right now! Come on, Kyosuke, don't be such a stuck in the mud!

[ her speech was a little sloppy, and it seemed that either she had been drinking a lot, or she was letting whatever she did have hit her a lot harder than she otherwise would have. ]

I don't have all that much time. Pass me your rifle, I'll clean it too. You look like you need a bit of relaxation right now.

[platinumlucifer]

Huh?

[ That snaps her to attention, her bubbly exterior cracking for a brief second. She quickly smiles again. Maybe she wasn't as intoxicated as she made herself seem. Still, she loosens the holster on her back, offering her weapon to him. ]

What do you mean by that? I'm plenty relaxed~

[He takes the rifle and begins carefully disassembling it]

No you aren't. But that's all right.

[platinumlucifer]

[ How could he read her so well, and why did that rattle her so much? This guy was a robot as far as she was concerned, nothing ever got to him. And yet.

With a bit of an uncharacteristic huff, she plopped down. Excellen wasn't about to admit defeat yet, but having her good mood question certainly knocked some wind from her sails. ]

I'm serious, you know. We don't know what's going to be out there. Besides, it's way too cold to do anything out here.

[steelbeowulf]

It's definitely not an ideal situation, but I know what we're going to do. We're going to save those people. Just like we always do.

[platinumlucifer]

Of course we are. But they could've supplied us with some better cold-weather gear, you know. I'm freezing my buns off here.

[steelbeowulf]

[Kyosuke pulls the barrel of the gun and begins running a cleaning brush through it. It comes out a bit dirtier than one might expect.]

Hmmm...

Well, in any event, there wasn't much time to prepare. We'll have to make due with what we have. I think there are some extra pelt blankets the Valkyries sent in one of the supply tents.

But they smell like the bad end of a Tauros.

[ Possibly because that's where they're from? ]

To be fair, they are the bad end of a Tauros. Here.

[Kyosuke tosses some sticks down and launches a burst of fire onto them, which turns into a toasty fire quite quickly]

[ See now this was what she was talking about. She could sit by the fire with everyone else, getting drunk by osmosis, but for some reason being around a lot of people was exhausting. Too much of a front to put up. The benefits of having a hot Fire-type around.

She huddles in close, holding her hands out toward the flame. ]

That's more like it. I thought I was going to be a frozen Excellencicle!

[ She plops herself down, sitting for a moment, then gently pats the space next to her. ]

[Kyosuke chuckles and moves over to sit beside her as he continues cleaning her weapon]

Your cartridge loader is getting a bit worn, did you want some spare parts?

[platinumlucifer]

[ It was nice hearing him laugh like that. It put her a bit more at ease. ]

What, really? That's really embarrassing...

[ Excellen looked genuinely surprised. How could that be right? She had been taking care of her Ochy just fine up until this point. She was the worst sniper rifle mama. ]

I mean, if you've got 'em lying around, sure, I'll take them.

[steelbeowulf]

[He grabs some parts out of his bag and begins tinkering]

I've got a larger capacity loader here, but it would increase the weight. Do you want it, or would you prefer your normal size?

[platinumlucifer]

Something like that might affect the recoil, so probably not.

[steelbeowulf]

All right. You made this yourself? The workmanship is very good.

[platinumlucifer]

Are you flirting with me, Kyosuke?

[He stumbles over the unfamiliar word!]

Offfff course you weren't. Silly me.

[Kyosuke blinks a few times confusedly]

Forget it, it's not important.

[Well he'll continue cleaning the gun. Weapons aren't confusing, unlike women.]

[ Women are confusing? She's basically throwing herself at him and he doesn't so much as bat an eyelash. ]

So I didn't realize you were so knowledgeable about this kind of thing. I'm impressed.
