How has everyone been? Cordelia and I have been quite busy of late, my apologies for being unavailable. Married life is, as it happens, keeps your free time rather limited, but I must say it is highly recommended! The recent contact with the city of Sanctuary has lead to some rather interesting revelations! I'd always noticed my abilities were somewhat different from that of the normal Enlightened. Once I learned the name, it all fell into place, and my eyes were able to reveal the truth. Apparently, I am Magi, as the Enlightened of Sanctuary are. It's a rather fascinating development! I still am not certain how I ended up here at all, but it would explain why nobody has recognized me before. Perhaps I managed to make it near to Union before meeting a grisly end, only to reawaken alive and bereft of memory within the Forest Shrine! At the very least it's interesting to speculate about.

Offensive traditions aside, what makes you so sure you're from Sanctuary? The city's been locked down for four decades...and you don't look like you're anywhere near forty.

I have no idea. I awoke at the Forest Shrine with no memories of my past a year ago. What I do know is that I am a Magi, and those are only from Sanctuary are they not?

They are, but I reiterate; you don't look like you're anywhere close to being forty.

...which leads to the bigger question of how you even got out, but that's probably lost with your memory as well.

I've had the same thought, but unfortunately leaving well enough alone isn't in my nature. Better to know what to expect than to be completely in the dark, no matter how unpleasant the truth.

Or of Union, not that it really matters. I can see if I can answer any questions about Sanctuary for you...if you were curious.

I suppose the most pressing question is also the most broad. What's it like, living there?

[It was broad, and an understandable place to start.]

It largely depends on what part of the society you're coming from. The Magi there are the ones who have the most control over how the city is run and the most access to the information and resources that are available. The rest, whether they be Earthkin or people without any power, are far more limited in what they can do within the city. It's not very egalitarian, unlike Union, but that's how it's always been.

[He gave a small shrug, almost embarrassed by the strangeness of him being the one to do any kind of teaching.]

I can't say that's an enormous recommendation for the place.

There isn't much that is if you're an outsider. I'm willing to bet that they wouldn't let you in the libraries either, even if you asked in the most polite way possible.

Doesn't barring entry defeat the purpose of a library?

Not if the library has information you don't wish to share.

But then why keep it in a place that exists to share information?

Wow, Union must be really sheltered if you've never heard of private libraries.

Not so much sheltered, I have my own private library in my study, but our major libraries are all public. Really, I wouldn't consider a private library a library, that is a personal book collection.

It goes back to what I've already told you about resources and the Magi. If you've a family connection or the coin to make transitions easier, then you have more access to what you need in order to learn. If you have neither, then you may as well not even bother trying in their eyes.

Sounds like a good way to miss out on a lot of talent.

No one said they were reasonable or rational.
