[On Fuuka's end, there appears to be some mumbling as her Espurr only gave her a sigh.] Um...are you sure this is a good idea? I never done anything quite like this before, it doesn't seem right to just ask. [Of course, as it was Fuuka's turn to sigh, her pokemon only just gave her a glare]

Well, I suppose it's too late now. [And as she gave another mumble once more, her voice quickly turned cheerful despite how nervous she sounds] Um, h-hello, my name is Fuuka Yamagishi and it's really nice to meet you all! I apologize if I'm being rude but would anyone tell me which places are the best to train pokemon?

I'm afraid I'm new at this?

[And maybe it'll be a good distraction too]

Battling is the popular way to do it, though there's other ways to get strong if you're not into fighting. What we've really gotta figure out, from the sounds of it, is what kind of strong do you want to get? I don't mind a good fight, but it ain't everything.

[Now that was something Fuuka hadn't really thought about. As she looked back at her Espurr and back at Cliff, a small sigh came through]

To be honest, I'm not quite sure. I suppose I do want a better connection with my Espurr but I thought maybe the best way to do that was battling...

[A nod. That was what he thought-- this girl, Fuuka, didn't look like she was much of a fighter by nature. Though he was no psychic type, he liked to think that he was reasonably good at getting an idea about how people could act.]

Sometimes it is, especially if the two of you like that sort of thing. It's also the primary way people build their pokemon teams in Caldera, although these Warp Bands from Union are pretty neat.

Sometimes...sometimes just doing things with eachother is enough. You're never going to get to know anyone well if you only see them in the same situation all the time.

[Meanwhile, here Fuuka was, having no clue what to do just yet! Although, it didn't take a genius to see that the young girl was starting to feel a bit nervous!

But still, that wasn't quite the answer she was expecting. Instead, there was chuckling on her end.]

I suppose so, that seems simple enough! Then perhaps I was worrying too much about training a lot more than I thought! It certainly seems a lot different from what I have read though.

Well, the training thing probably works the best because people and pokemon both like competition and showing off what they can do. What better way to do that, then in a good spar?

[He found himself chuckling as well. If anyone in town was guilty of showing off for the sake of a good fight it was definitely him.]

Without these Warp Bands, we can't communicate that easily with pokemon. The easiest thing to do is to find something that everyone likes, and competition and fighting works kind of like that.

But there's gotta be something you all can do together, if you're nervous. What kind of things do you like to do?

There are a lot of things we can do together but I think I just want something a little different?

[And yet, she feels a tad bit gulity for asking a lot out of this man who was trying to help]

The thing is, we have been together for a while now and I think my Espurr seems like she's ready to fight. So I'm willing to try it, I'm just not sure exactly what to do?

[Hm. This girl sure was serious-- he respected girls who made a decision and stood by it.]

Well, if you really wanna try, then the first thing you oughta do is find someone you trust who's on a similar level. A fight's no fun if there's a difference in strength, because then the fight's gonna slide one way or the other too quickly. Then no one learns anything.

Ah, so that means I need to find someone else who is just starting out to be a trainer?

Hm...that sounds easy enough but where am I going to find someone similar? Although, my Espurr is around level 10 so that might be something to start on!

[Cliff made a thoughtful sound. Though he wasn't technically 'starting out', he did have a pokemon at level 12. However, while in theory that fight wouldn't be too unfair, he didn't relish the idea of siccing a Hawlucha on her Espurr.]

That's a good question. Do you have any friends that you know of who can help? That'd be the easiest, 'cause then you know that there will be no hard feelings no matter who wins or loses. Otherwise, putting out a call over the warp bands like this might be the next best thing.

[And then Fuuka pondered but there was sigh from her.]

There are people who are willing to help but I don't think any of my 'friends' are pokemon trainers. So that's why I asked for some help but even then, it seems so rude to just call people!

Hey-- there's nothing rude in asking if it's okay to join someone for some hanging out in an afternoon or evening. People usually like the company, and sometimes putting yourself out is a good way to make new friends.

I suppose so!

I never done anything like this before, I'm afraid my parents were rather protective of me making friends!

[Her words softened Cliff's joking attitude, and he regarded her with a look of curiosity.]

Why were they? If it ain't personal, or anything.

[Cliff might not be able to see it but there was a sad smile on her face]

Well, it's more that I got sick a lot! They were just worried about who I was friends with since they didn't want anything bad to happen.

[Which sucked a lot but she's not going to say that out loud]

[She doesn't need to voice those thoughts; it's easy enough to imagine how much that would have sucked for a young girl growing up in a busy city.]

That sounds reasonable. Do ya think they'd complain if they knew who you were going outside with?

Back then? They would but they'll just have to trust me for now though!

I'm a trainer right now so I think they'll have to deal with it? [She gave a light chuckle before it turned somber afterwards]

Or at least, I really hope so.

Well, if they give you trouble you can feel free to use me as a cover. Wouldn't be the first time I've had to bail someone out of a mess.

[And, fortunately? Protective parents were easy.]

[Cue flailing!]

O-Oh, but I wouldn't want to trouble you, sir! My parents can be overbearing and they can be quite difficult to be reasoned with!

And I don't think it's worth the risk either...!

Fuuka.

[Cliff's voice was oddly sharp, almost like that of a particularly unconventional teacher or military officer for a beat. Almost immediately, however, he softened the blow with a bright grin.]

Worried parents are hardly the hardest thing I've had to face. [He winked.] Don't worry about it.

[At first, her eyes widen from the sudden change in tone. That was strange, she thought to herself, did he just...?]

You sure? It just seems like a huge risk to use you as an excuse from my parents. And I'm worried they'll find out eventually.

C'mon, you make it sound like we'll never be seeing eachother after this. That's cold, man!

Goodness, that wasn't my intention! I apologize if I was, I just...

I just don't know why you would go through so much trouble for me. And especially when we just met!

[He grinned at her.]

Say what you want, but I'm not gonna just sit around and let things go. Besides, who's to say that you won't be working with me? There's a lot of places in Union I still don't know about, you know.

[...]

Well...I haven't thought about that. I suppose you do have a point but we still just met.

B-But my name is Fuuka Yamagishi, it's nice to meet you, sir!

Just stop thinking 'bout it, okay? You're gonna make it too complicated if you do that.

[He waved a hand, as if to brush the thought aside.]

The name's Cliff Fittir. From Caldera. I'm sure everything'll work out the way it's supposed to, all right?
