Beach Party Log

Who: The people of Union and all their wonderful friends who can be bothered to take a vacation.
Where: The Tropical Island
When: On and off, the second week of June
What: Union's more-than-annual beach party. Open log, tag around!

The sun is shining, the Wingull are squawking, and the beach of the Tropical Island is as beautiful as always. The whole city has more or less been effectively encouraged to come out, especially people who need to recover from the shenanigans in Sanctuary. The air is filled with the sounds and smells of Citadel visitors grilling, the expected murmurs of shock at Calderan fashions hitting the place where they're most practical, and of course, the colorful sights of everyone having a good time. There's lots of places to see and things to do on the island, and now's the time to enjoy them.

You know, that some ace Valkyrie like you just happened to be in the same place as me. And that I even got to hang out. [Sigh, he said it. He is ready for the laughter.] And, I got to see that you're actually pretty cool.

[She looks up, knowing full well why he was surprised to see her. She doesn't laugh -- she wouldn't do that, because she knows what she means to people in Citadel. But... "actually pretty cool."]

[Maybe she's a little surprised, too.]

...I'm "cool" besides being an ace Valkyrie, you mean?

Well, yeah. [He says it automatically, like it was a dumb question.]

Like, don't get me wrong. Being as good as you are is really cool too. [Trying not to insult her, he hopes she didn't take it that way.] It was nice to get to go to that game, even if it sucked, and to hang out after. There's a lot more to life than fighting, you know.

Mm... yes. There is, of course, much more to life than fighting for most people. I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

[She sighs, softly. But... she does smile up at him.]

You're right. It was quite fun. Difficulties with the stadium aside, but that had its own sort of charm.

[He sits down next to her, hands going to back to catch himself as he kicks his feet out and relaxes. The smile he wears is easygoing, giving a glance out to the ocean and back to her.]

You know, we could do that again sometime if you want. Except let's try to stay away from the weird ass sports in Union. If we're gunna go to a game, we'll see something more normal. Or go back to Citadel.

Hmm. [She wonders why he is asking for a moment, but... it is nice to get out. Seeing more of the world, when she isn't trying to protect.]

Let's do that sometime. Perhaps something more normal, I agree. Or... [She smiles a little wider. You can take the Valkyrie out of Citadel, but you can't take Citadel out of the Valkyrie.] ...Perhaps we could play a sport ourselves, next time.

A-A sport? Us? Play? [Oh, he totally sucks at sports. Yosuke gets visibly nervous.]

Sure! We could totally do something like that! What kind did you have in mind? Maybe we could swim?

[He can swim! That might be all he can do.]

Swimming would be wonderful.

[Did you know that Mami is LITERALLY THE DEVIL, Yosuke? Move over, Homura.]

Oh, I know. We could go cliff diving!

[He perks up at her okaying the swimming idea, but things are just going out of hand now at the cliff diving suggestion.]

You want to what?! How the hell do you go cliff diving?

[Yosuke does like excitement in his life (but not quite like that). The devil is very welcome.]

Cliff diving. You see?

[She points at a cliff, some distance away. A long distance, except that she can fly (or, well, ribbon) up to it.]

We would jump off the cliff, into the water.

[That looked...so tall...

He grimaces, and all of a sudden the image of him spatting against the rocks hits him full force. He looks blue in the face.]

Mami...I'm pretty sure that'll kill us...

Hmm. Perhaps we should check how deep the water is to be safe.

[Falls? Kill a Valkyrie? Never. ~~Mumi no~~]

[She's gotta be pulling his leg. She is, right? She's not actually that crazy, is she?]

Yeah, sure! As long as there's nothing dangerous underneath, we'll totally be fine, right?

[He says with a grin, kidding around. This is a joke. It has to be.]

[Mami stands up, and holds a hand out in front of her. With a sparkle of light, a long length of ribbon appears. She holds some of it out to Yosuke.]

Grab onto this. I can get us there quicker to check.

[Maybe... it's an extended joke...?]

[She's serious. Is she really. He absentmindedly takes the ribbon, a little in shock that they were doing this.]

And how exactly do you plan on getting us up there?

[He sounds like he doesn't totally believe her.]

[Mami beams back at him, but doesn't answer. When she's satisfied that he has grabbed it -- and she's already made a second length of ribbon to catch him if he falls -- she throws it. It snaps onto a tree some distance away, and suddenly they both sail high into the air!]

[She's got the ribbon around a second tree, though, leapfrogging their way across the island.]

Like that. [She winks proudly.]

Woooooooaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!! [He doesn't expect the two of them to suddenly take to the air, but there they are in all its glory- and he's freaking out, just a little.]

[Once he realizes he's not going to die, he tries to be a little graceful about the whole leapfrogging thing. Trying to look kinda cool!]

This is so cool!!!!! [He wishes he was an Enlightened. Man they can do such cool stuff!]

Isn't it?

[Years of practice have helped Mami gracefully glide on ribbons while talking at a normal volume. She swings another ribbon out, this one lower, and catches a rock near the bottom of the cliff. She pulls them in with that, until they're on the little area near the big, deep lagoon at the bottom of the cliff.]

[Her feet hit the ground gently. Mami smiles, when she turns, and looks back at Yosuke.]

Here we are.

[If only Yosuke were as graceful as Mami. His feet too, hit the ground, but it's not so soft. He completely loses his balance, stumbles, yelps, tries to regain his balance- only to fall, going facefirst into the ground.]

Owwww.....

[Oh. He fell down. That looks like it hurt. Mami turns around and offers a hand down, smiling at him.]

Here. Allow me to help you with that.

Yeah...thanks.

[He accepts the hand up, pulling himself to his feet. How embarrassing, that wasn't cool at all. He feels like he sorta wants to crawl into a hole after that one, but she's not turning around on a heel and ditching him so keep going man. One little mistake, it'll be cool.]

[He finally gets a look from the top of the cliff, and damn.]

Wow, it's really cool from up here...look. You can see everyone down on the beach. And check out the ocean!

[The sun sparkles off of it, adding to the natural beauty of the scene. It really is breathtaking!]

[Mami looks down, taking in the view. She might be used to seeing from higher up, but sometimes it's worth stopping to wistfully appreciate the view. Her ribbon is dispelled and she puts her hands on her hips.]

Mm-hmm. You really get an idea of how far away we are from Union -- and the mainland, seeing it, do you not?

[She smiles, contented to see it for the moment. The question of cliff diving can wait. For a bit.]

Huh? [If he squints, he can see it.] Yeah! Woa-hoaaah! Take a look at that!

[He's going to try to stay away from cliff diving for as long as he can.]

You know, I've never been this far away from home before. Can't say I'm not enjoying it.

Mm-hm. It's nice, really. It's nothing like Citadel, but... that isn't a bad thing.

[She tilts her head, looking thoughtful. Getting away is nice, but she feels a little guilty for that thought. It raises a question, though, and she has someone from Citadel right here to ask.]

Do you hope to return to Citadel, in time? Or would you prefer to stay in Union for awhile longer?

[He wonders why she'd ask him that, but doesn't think too much on it for the time being.]

Go back to Citadel? Well...truthfully, I have to, eventually. But that's only to visit, to pick up supplies and see my mom. I guess I didn't really think about it too much. I mean, I'm supposed to end up staying in Union anyway, but I never thought about what I really wanted.

[He says that, but part of him knows the answer to it, though he won't say it.]

What about you, Mami? Same question.
