Victory...
The reports come in from all sides.
"The gates are secure!"
"We've got the prisoners here, safe and sound. We're bringing them back to join the rebels now."
"The munitions factory is clear of Gigas troops!"
There is, of course, one distinct exception.
As news of the various successes across the city trickle in, the Gigan representative's expression becomes one of unrestrained rage.
"You don't know what you're doing, you complete fools. You listen to me - stamp out these wretched mages or you'll live to regret it."
But there is only so much she can say with her support in shambles. Turning on her heel with an icy scowl, Valeria storms out of the room. The remainder of the Gigan troops are escorted out of the city within the next 48 hours.
Before the celebrations can become too much extravagant, however, the command center quietly relays news of what had occurred in the tunnels to all the outside forces that had come on Sanctuary's behalf. While the natives of the city are certainly overjoyed, an air of unease descends over their saviors...
The next day, General Ironborn convenes a public mission debriefing. At his side stand the members of Team Evolution, Rory Donnachaidh and Ryuuko Nishimura. All three look equally somber.
"People of Union, Caldera, Citadel, Refuge, and Sanctuary... We're happy to say that we've successfully driven Gigas out of the city. After forty years of occupation, Sanctuary is finally free." ...A pause as scattered cheering breaks out across the square. "But as you all know by now, a troubling new situation has come to light. One which has caught us unaware. After discussion, we have determined that we cannot make a decision until we have spoken with the Council of Magi and the ruling parties of every city involved in this effort. We will continue to station our men here until such time as we can reach a decision.
"That said, we declare our primary mission over. You are all free to return home. We couldn't have done it without you."
They step back now, though they remain on the scene in case there are any questions. It seems to be a vaguely unsatisfactory end to a great ordeal...

"I used to live here."
He turns away out towards the towers of the city.
"If you asked me whether chasing Gigas out was a good thing back then, I would've said sure. But now..."
He shrugs.
no subject
"Bro, there's something you're not telling me, does this have anything to do with whatever the hell it was they were talking about earlier? About something else disturbing?" He can read into it that far, he might be spazzy but he's not dumb.
no subject
"...Did you seriously not get the memo?"
He valiantly restrains himself from rolling his eyes so far back that they pierce the front of his brain.
"The people of Sanctuary, in their unceasing attempts to throw off the tyrannical conquerors, decided it would be a good idea to create flesh-puppets out of captured Gigas soldiers to terrorize their enemy. The fact that this was an option tells you about all you need to know about the ruling class of Sanctuary."
no subject
"You mean all that crap is true? It sounded like some kind of creepy tale you tell your kids to keep them outta trouble!"
But despite that, it was horrifying.
"What the hell...!"
no subject
"...I'm glad to see you consider the news you receive with an open mind and a healthy dose of critical thinking. What did you think that announcement was about? They'd discovered Sanctuary never left the toilet seat down after flushing?"
no subject
"Man, you're totally harsh-!"
no subject
Ceilto counts off these incidents on his fingers with an air of bemusement.
"And I'm not totally harsh. ...I'd say 20% at best. I choose to conceal the other 80% of my scintillating personality for later use to keep our new found relationship fresh and interesting.'

"Listen, it's not like I didn't know, but the truth is I didn't want to believe it. Like, coming here to free this city only to find out about the shit they were pulling this whole time? I wanted that "troubling new situation" to be something else." He sounds disappointed, if anything else.
"So, what are you going to do now? I mean, knowing what's been going on here."
no subject
He sounds quite serious.
no subject
A nap?
"What the hell, a nap??? After all that???"
no subject
He gives a shrug.
"Aren't you? We've got a long way back still, too."
But since Yosuke is probably expecting a real answer...
"Nothing we can do about this, anyway. We made our choice already when we came here."
no subject
"...Do you know what will happen to the people they experimented on?"
no subject
He vaguely wonders if it's still appropriate to refer to them as 'people'.
"Probably it'd be best if they got some rest. ...Of the eternal kind. But who knows?"
