[Amidst the snow and cold of Union, a strange woman walks the streets in minimal, what looked to be handmade winter gear, not nearly as affected by it as she has any right to be. She is tall, striking green eyes and even more unusual green hair thrown partially over on shoulder, looking more wild than anything else. Gliding above her is a Pidgey, a band of brightly-colored beads wrapped around its right ankle; and rested on her shoulder is a Goomy, likewise adorned with a necklace of differently-colored beads, part of which seem to have been enveloped within its gooey body. She walks without purpose, simply watching, seemingly mystified by what she saw.

Scouting the outer wall did not prepare her for what was inside. These people lived piled atop one another, and there were so many of them! They dressed strangely, too (what were these things called petticoats, and why did some women insist upon wearing them?), almost completely covered from head to toe, and in such drab colors. This Union, it was a strange place, so very different from what she was used to.]

[THIS IS A PUFFING CONTEST- wait, no Eiji what are you doing. Sigh. Hina deflates and goes back to munching on her own food but she is WATCHING YOU BOCO.]

[Meanwhile Eiji laughs at Boco's enthusiasm. He can't exactly understand it word for word, but he's empathic enough to get the gist of it.]

I don't mind! You're welcome ah, Boco was it?

[YUP! Boco cheeps, mouth full of bread, and gets a half reproachful, half bemused look from his partner. Slowly the Pidgey closes his beak and Rydia laughs.]

Sorry, he can be a bit dramatic. Thank you, by the way.

[Eiji grins and shakes his head.]

Ah, it's no big deal, really! I have a way with birds, I'm told.

[Hina nips at his ear and he jolts.]

Ow! Hinaaaa!

[Hina fluffs at him and gives him the cold shoulder. Sigh. Birds.]

My name's Eiji, by the way.

[Well, you have the Boco seal of approval, at least.]

So I see.

[She giggles a bit.]

I'm Rydia. This is Boco, which you already know, and this one here [She shrugs up her shoulder with the quiet Goomy on it.] is Whyt.

Ah, it's nice to meet you all! [And he nods his head towards each of them.]

This is Hina, but I'm sure you've gathered that much.

[His smile fades a bit and his expression turns curious.]

If it's okay for me to ask, where are you from Ms. Rydia?

[Rydia looks surprised by the question.]

Huh? Why do you ask?

[It couldn't have anything to do with how she looks or dresses, obviously.]

It's okay if you don't want to tell me, but I can't help but notice ah... [How does he say this without sounding like a pervert. Goddammit.]

I've traveled a lot outside of Union's walls. Your clothes remind me of a few places I've seen is all.

Notice what?

[You are not getting out of this, Eiji. She's curious what you mean.

But that comment gives her pause.]

Places you've seen? Like where?

[Nope subject avoided. He actually hesitates because he's not sure how much he should even say. After the city got nervous about outsiders, he doesn't want to cause anyone any unnecessary trouble.]

Settlements and small villages far from the city. It reminds me a bit of one in particular I visited with my grandfather. They were a nomadic sort.

[See that face? That is not a poker face. That is the face of someone who just got found out.]

I see.

[Eiji is quiet for a moment. He notes that look, and realizes somewhat belatedly that he may have asked or said too much. After all, he was pretty sure he stumbled upon the remains of that very same village not so long ago. He offers her a smile.]

We didn't stay for very long, but the people there were kind to us. It's one of my fondest memories of traveling with him.

[Rydia is also quiet for a moment, only breaking that silence when Boco, trying to reassure her, starts preening at her hair a bit. She scratches the top of his head. It was so long ago, but the scars were still there. She eases a bit.]

...Thank you for telling me. I'm glad to hear.

[Eiji swallows and then nods.]

I'm sorry- for bringing something like that up. It wasn't my place to ask in the first place.

It's all right. You just surprised me. I didn't realize anyone here knew about that.

[She's not suspicious per se, since the people here so far seem to be nothing like the ones that attacked her village, but she would be foolish to let her guard down completely.]

[At least Eiji understands that much and he wouldn't take any of her suspicion personally.]

Not many people of this city travel as far out as I do. Honestly, I'm only here now for the sake of gathering some supplies and then I'll likely leave.

Why not?

[Were they being assailed as well? Eren had talked about a strange machine underground that caused them some grief...]

Where are you going?

[He leans back thoughtfully.]

A few reasons, I guess. Some people don't like to be far from home or maybe some are worried about the wilds and what might be in them.

[He shrugs with a smile.]

I don't know yet! There's still a lot to see on the outside, after all. I suppose I'll go where ever that takes me.

["The wilds and what might be in them," she smirks at that a bit.]

That's silly.

It doesn't bother you to be so far away from home?

[He smiles a bit, too. To her question though, he blinks and rubs the back of his head.]

Home is where you make it. My home isn't here, it isn't really anywhere I guess. It's wherever I am.

[She pauses, then smiles herself.]

That's an interesting way to look at it.

[He grins wider, nodding.]

All you really need to get by is a little spare change and a clean pair of underwear for tomorrow.

[Hina chirps, chiming in.]

And a little help from your friends.

[Damn right!]

That's home enough for me.

[An extra pair of what? She laughs.]
