So, uh...

[A quick bolt of electricity whizzes by in the background before Chie even gets started.]

...Does anybody have any experience with getting Pokemon to stop being afraid of things?

[And again, in the other direction.]

I mean, afraid of, like, everything.

[There's a low buzzing sound and Chie turns around to briefly reveal a Rotom hiding behind her shoulder. Once it sees the Warp Band is on, it dives back behind her. She sighs, shaking her head.]

Usually I'm the one who's afraid of Ghost types, but this is just ridiculous.

I'm in the city right now, so I can meet just about anywhere around here.

A less populated area would likely be best for your Pokémon's sake, though.

How about out near the lake?

That'll work fine. Should I head there now?

[And sure enough, Chie will find Umi sitting at the lake's edge, waiting. She's not alone, either. Her Altaria is perched in a nearby tree, and there's something swimming in the water just a little ways out, just beneath the surface.

She offers a wave when she spots Chie.]

Hey!

[Chie waves back, jogging up to where Umi is waiting, her Rotom trailing closely behind her and immediately hiding behind her shoulder again when they get there.]

So, uh... here we are.

Hey there.

[As Chie approaches, she might catch a glimpse of an oddly colored Dragalge peeking out of the water for a moment before sinking back beneath the surface. Umi glances over at the Rotom before returning her attention to Chie.]

Mm. Is that him...her? [She doesn't know, okay?]

[The Rotom buzzes in distress at the sight of the Dragalge. That thing is a weird color, oh my god, what.]

Yeah... this is Sparky.

[Umi nods and smiles at the distressed electric ghost thing.]

Hello, Sparky. If you're scared of Ren, don't be. He may look strange, but he's just really lazy and drools a lot.

[The response is a distressed buzzing sound in the direction of her Altaria. WHAT ABOUT THAT THING THOUGH.]

Sheesh...

It really is a jittery little thing, isn't it?

[It's kind of cute in a way, but that's not why they're here.]

None of the Pokémon with me are anything you should be afraid of. Ren is lazy, Aoi is a little mischievous at time, but she makes up for it. And Izumi is probably sleeping.

[As the Rotom continues to buzz about nervously, looking in every direction.]

Does it have a favorite food? I have to bribe Ren with bananas to get him to do anything.

I dunno... don't Rotoms just eat electricity?

I...don't have any personal experience with them, so I can't really say.

I'm pretty sure that's what they eat.

In that case, have you noticed anything at all that he seems to enjoy? Or be less frightened around with, at least?

He doesn't seem to be afraid of me at all.

I take it you've already tried slowly introducing him to other things on your own already, though.

Really slowly. Most of them he doesn't trust.

There has to be a way to show him that there's no reason not to trust them.

Probably, but it seems like it'll take a while. He's super skittish.

I hope he's not as stubborn as Ren. He still won't eat anything unless I add bananas to it.

There has to be some way to boost his confidence at the very least.

Well... he just needs to succeed at some things, right?

Yes. But you don't want to go with something too easy either.
