And several angry Pokémon. They have trapped Martin (with the exception of Brigadier, who is holding the Band) so that the sign Tiria wrote and pinned to his shirt can be read.

Martin, meanwhile, is just so done.]

I have a death wish and tried to stay behind with the Savior in the past and probably die.

Again.

This is the second time I've tried to died since coming back to life.

My Pokémon are not happy.

Am I sufficiently shamed, Boar?

[The Doublade hisses and Brig shuts the Band off.]

If you ask any of the nobles, I'm like, way too irresponsible for any Council-related business. And I think I've pretty well crossed myself off of most of their 'marriage material' lists, too!

[He sounds very proud of all this. He works hard at not working hard -- or so he'd rather have people believe. Even people who've seen him get serious, if he can help it.]

I'm not entirely sure any younger adults are "responsible" enough for the Council, if you ask the nobles and elders.

Yeah, but they think I'm too flaky to be their errand-boy or anybody's assistant or anything.

Anyway, that's 'cause I'm pretty sure the youngest person on the council is like... 107.

Gods, no, who has time for that? I mean, my grandparents think I should be trying to get in good with all the others, but some of us have actual stuff to do!

[This is good. Riffing and joking about uptight nobles is familiar ground, and his cheer, while still not quite honest, seems to come a lot more naturally.]

Enlightened do have more leeway than the rest. I don't see why your grandparents care, so long as you're happy. And not causing trouble.

Oh, something or other about the family name and duty and whatever. You know, old people stuff.

[Ah. Martin had something similar growing up, but he wanted to be like his father. He knows if he hadn't they would have supported him, however]

[There's a brief look of panic in his eyes -- he doesn't have a lie prepared for this, because no one ever really asks him what he wants, and the people he knows well enough for them to be concerned about it don't really need to be told -- most of them have known him long enough to see the whole thing unfold.]

[He puts the smile back on, but it's distinctly shakier this time.]

Oh-- um, I guess I like exploring? Like now that we can go out of the city, you know, like meeting new Pokemon and seeing new places and... and stuff like that!

[There's a bit of concerned tittering from the pile of Pokemon. Even they can tell he's lying.]

At least you seem to have an idea of an idea. I'm still figuring out what I can do, now that I'm not actively a Sword.

[He sparkles as he perks up. Okay, maybe the part about loving the outside world wasn't lying, exactly, just hiding a different part of the truth.]

Oh, wow, seriously? You totally have to! The Flower Grove is super cool, Narcyz came from there!

[The Spritzee looks up at his name, and waves a teeny tiny wing in greeting at the camera.]

He's a Spritzee! They're Fairy-type, like me.

He's all about flowers and pretty things. And okay, this is gonna sound weird, but if you wanna meet one? Pay attention to what you're smelling. They smell awesome.

[The Spritzee puts its little wings where its hips would be if it had distinct hips. Of course! They pride themselves on their beautiful scent!]

Yes. Not even kidding. Like, if you're there and the flowers are nice and all of a sudden you're like "wow, but what's that smell, it's kind of amazing?", it's kinda like that. That's how I met this one!

In the Flower Grove? There's Jigglypuff, and Whimsicott, and Flabébé -- Maria?

[The Flabébé hops up on his shoulder next to her Spritzee buddy, and waves her flower at Martin. Hello!]

Such as? I don't know much about Fairy-types...which doesn't make any sense since my sword is Fairy, now that I think about it.
