A Close Call?

It comes suddenly and without warning. The ground beneath the land shakes with great force and fury, the great towers of Union shifting dangerously due to the magnitude. Somehow, miraculously, nobody is injured, but great structural damage is sustained on many of the connecting bridges that keep the city together.

On the streets, people are fearful. What if another quake comes? What if they aren't as lucky that time? Teams of Engineers are all over the city, checking on the damage and making what repairs they can. Electricity has been knocked out in many areas and crews are still struggling to recover it, although the Signal Tower remains with power and broadcasts over radio and television are sent to reassure the populace.

Thankfully, no aftershocks come. Messages are already coming in from other ally cities, Caldera and Citadel are mostly fine, Refuge, while fine, has devolved into panicked prayer to appease whoever they offended to send such a large quake. As surveyors go out to examine the damage, they will find that new underground routes have been opened all over. Unfortunately, those who went to investigate have not returned, sending a second wave of panic through many of the cities. The Union Council is working with the governments of the other cities to plan a proper response, and they hope to announce within the next few days as the city recovers. For now, however, the new paths are strictly off-limits to all citizens, and have been placed under heavy guard by the Swords of the Savior, the Steel Battalion, and some Valkyrie volunteers.

[and now, she's giving a demonstration of the proper way to hold all these babies - or at least, how best to use arms and opposable thumbs to your advantage. Kitty half flopped over on Bagon's head probably loses a few points.]

Shall we? [Michiru starts walking, but Nocturne really zips off, flying ahead to find the nursery door. The sooner they trap all the babies inside, the better.]

[ Gold follows dutifully, trying very hard not to look guilty should they pass the study the babies wrecked earlier. He'll come back and clean that up. He has to remember. He will. Everyone will want their pillows!

But for the meantime he's just trying not to hiccup around his water dish, which is making his eyes cross and his nostrils flare. Fight it. Fight i- ] Jlll!!

[ Drat. Bagon laughs, tipping her head up to look at her friend (who is, wow, right there). This is fun! ] Bag bag.

[and right on cue:] Toge!

[kitty meeps and whoa, slides backwards a little when Bagon tilts her head up.

And here's the nursery! Nocturne is already scrabbling at the handle, pulling it down with her weight. Michiru just needs to nudge the door open and...there. She walks in before crouching and letting go of Bagon and kitty. As for eggbaby, she brings Togepi over to her usual nest of blankets and. Huh. Where'd the blanket go?]

[ Bagon jumps the distance to the ground, flapping her arms in eternal hope of flying (foiled, but that's okay - she's done it once before, she's sure she'll do it again). Spotting a toy, she toddles over to investigate. Now that she has a friend, maybe they can play.

Gold notices what Michiru's noticing and, putting his water bowl down, begins backing towards the door. He then proceeds to back into the door, and sparks in surprise when it closes. ] Jolte!

[ So much for being helpful. ]

[kitty jumps after Bagon, following along. Hey! It's that wobbly prey thing that won't stay down no matter what!]

Ah. [well, then. She shifts eggbaby in her arms and then looks up at Nocturne, perched on one of the pokebeds.] Keep an eye on them, please.

[the bat doesn't look too enthused, but at least there's not much to climb in here. Meanwhile, Michiru picks up the water dish and opens the door.] After you.

Bag? [ It's a what? Bagon boops the toy and - whoa! - hops backwards when it wobbles. That's neat!

Ears down, Gold slinks out of the room and back towards the study. When they reach that open door - a door at which a few puddles have gathered - he swallows. Maybe if he goes and fetches the blanket quickly, she won't get mad at the mess they made. ] Jolteon. Jolt jolteon. Ee.

[ ....She can't understand him, so maybe he should focus on looking contrite. ]

[kitty attacks the wobbly thing with the ferocity of a true hunter. That is, she pounces on it and then kinda misses because it wobbled in the direction it wasn't supposed to.]

So you were all in here. [and well, Gold has probably never seen her mad before. Either way, she doesn't seem annoyed. ~~Plus she doesn't even have to clean up.~~

She will crouch down and take the blanket, however. Eggbaby trills happily.] Just the two of you against the three of them, I see.

[ Gold puts a pillow or two atop each other, attempting to straighten up. If he had a tail, it would be between his legs; as-is, however, he just tries to seem small. He nods. ] Jolteon.

[ Meanwhile, Bagon thinks pouncing looks fun so she runs right at the toy and keeps running when her larger bulk knocks it out of the way. She gets a few more paces across the room and then turns around to check on her friend. Did she do that right? ] Gon.

[and that's a light hand atop his head when he draws near. She's not going to invite a shock by rubbing, but there is it. A smile.]

Thank you for taking care of them. [eggbaby wiggles excitedly at Gold. It's the yellow fluffy thing!

And Michiru is opening the door, beckoning to Gold.] Let's go. [she'll take care of this later. Or whichever 'mon finds it first.

Kitty immediately pounces while the wobbly thing is spinning on the floor!! And it's not moving under her paw! Is this....that thing called teamwork?]

Eee? [ Gold looks up, confused. She's not mad? They made this big, huge mess, and he hasn't had a chance to clean it up yet....but she's smiling at him. And baby is happy to see him. Baby likes him?

It's like the sun just rose on his face. ] Jolteon!

[ Hopefully he won't get lost in his happiness and run into the doorframe on his way out.

Bagon stumps back over to investigate. It's down, now. Is it supposed to be down? Did they win? ] Bag?

[he's fun! There was water and weird noises and fluff and rides!

Michiru might look a little concerned if Gold walks into the doorframe, but she's worked with him long enough to...just move on if he's otherwise okay.

Kitty slowly brings up her paw to take a peek, and then squeaks in surprise when it comes bouncing back up! It's back! It's back!!

...this might go on for a while.]

[ He's fine! Come on, let's go make sure the babies are happy! And tuck eggbaby in with her blanket! Gold bounds down the hall, then turns around and barks at Michiru (and baby). He helped, didn't he? He did help! (Plus his hiccups are gone, but he hasn't noticed that yet.) ] Jolt! Jolt!

[ Bagon gasps in surprise when the toy pops back up. That is a good trick. She bats it back towards kitty and has to lean back when it wobbles her way afterwards. Do you think it knows how to fly, too? ] Bag bagon.

Priiii! [all that excitement is making eggbaby excited. She wiggles her arms and legs, as if about to escape to join Gold.

Yeah, no. Michiru has a good grip on the eggbaby and the eggblanket.]

Shall we? [that was directed towards the egg, who trills in response.

Michiru heads back towards the nursery, though she takes a second to pop Gold's water dish back into the kitchen.

Meanwhile, kitty has pounced and currently has the toy in a hug of death, back paws trying to tear it to shreds. She kinda...overextends and rolls over and she loses her grip on the toy. It wobbles defiantly.]

[ The toy is now available, but Bagon is more curious about her friend. Peering down at kitty, she blinks. You're on the ground. Is that fun? ] Gon.

[ Taking advantage of Bagon's preoccupation, that toy continues its rebellious rocking.

Gold waits for Michiru by the nursery door. Are both her hands full? If so, he can try to get the door for her. If not, he'll get out of her way. ] Eon eeee!

[uh. Kitty mews up at Bagon. Yes! And she totally did it on purpose.

As if to prove her point, kitty stretches out luxuriously on the carpeting. See? Very comfortable.

Michiru uses her elbow to depress the handle, and pushes the door open carefully. A glance at the babies and a glance at Nocturne tell her all she needs to know - everything's fine.]

[ The ground is fun? Bagon looks at kitty, then at the toy. She bops the toy with her nose once as if to scold it for tossing her friend away, then flops onto her back herself. Oof! ] Bagon.

[ Whoa, the ceiling looks so high from down here. She stretches out her arms for it, waiting for the fun to start happening. ] Bag, bag.

[ Gold peers through too and smiles. The babies are good kids. Just...energetic. ] Eee.

[kitty meeps and...then blinks. And yawns. Staying still for more than ten seconds seems to allow all her exertions of the day (past hour) to catch up.

Michiru settles eggbaby and her blanket in her usual bed, who immediately waddles over to her Rhyhorn plushie for a hug.]

[ That looks cozy. Gold slips off to start fixing the study, seeing that babies are well looked-after. This is how he can best help. ] Jolt!

[ Bagon stays on her back, peering up at the ceiling. Nothing is happening. Are things supposed to ha...haaaaaa......

Whoo. Yawns are contagious. She grins up at the human in the room, who now seems extra-tall. The ground isn't fun yet, but it's kind of comfortable. ] Bag gon.

[kitty curls up next to Bagon, pressing close. Everything's getting warm and fuzzy, but she's pretty sure there's a song somewhere and then there's a blanket and. Yup, she's out like a lamp.

Nocturne is just glad that her human apparently knows Sing.]

[ Everything is so warm. Bagon grins and curls up into a ~~dragon ball~~ cozy lump next to her friend before drifting off to sleep herself. Her arms twitch as she begins to dream. The theater spins away, far away, down on the ground as she flies up towards the sky.....kitty is there too, and so is Nocturne, and something hiccuping on her back.

She has the goofiest grin on her face, but it's a very good dream. ]
