Mission 006 | Video
[For the last three weeks, Estelle Bright hasn't been seen much. Sure, she's answered by the communicators in her Warp Band, sometimes. But she was out on a mission.]
[It maybe hasn't gone so well, because she appears abruptly; she's covered in mud. A few tufts of grass stick out from her hair, and she's more mud and dirt than Calderan Enlightened at the moment. She tries to wipe some of it off her face.]
[It doesn't work.]
Public service announcement, people! The wetlands are more like the MUDLANDS. Thanks and goodnight!
[An exasperated sigh later:] I need like fifty million showers.

[ Maki doesn't get it. ]

[She holds her (mud-coated) staff up to the warp band, so Maki can see it, and nods proudly.]
A staff's so useful. It's like--a walking stick, a crutch, a thing poker, a wild Pokemon smacker, a tent pole, a back scratcher, all in one! There's so much in life you can't do without a staff! A staff's a many splendored thing! A staff makes the world go 'round!

It's just a piece of wood.

[ Out comes the rich girl. ]
no subject
[She pauses.]
And it costs money.
no subject
[ But she knows not everyone is rich.. ]
O-Oh. Right. Sorry. I hope you find a new one.

[She tilts her head.]
You get attached, I guess.
no subject
[ That totally doesn't count, you can't build a piano by yourself! ]
no subject
I bet you're pretty attached, too! I mean... I can't really do anything than kinda mash the keys in no particular order with a piano... so it sounds cool, too.
no subject
Please...don't do that. [ Her poor piano. ] But I think I understand what you mean. I've used other people's pianos, but mine is the one I'm most comfortable with.
no subject
Yeah. It's kind of like that with my staff! Or, uh, my new staff, when I get it. [Estelle tilts her head.] Did you learn to play when you were young?
no subject
I've had a tutor as long as I can remember, my parents thought that learning how to play music was important in my development.
no subject
[She pauses for a moment.]
I guess not quite, I didn't have a tutor, but... similar idea? You stuck with playing, right? Otherwise I just said a bunch of nonsense.
no subject
[ Her own are not, and she's not sure if any of her friend's parents are either. ]
Yeah, I never wanted to do anything but play music. It's the most important thing to me.
no subject
[She tilts her head, but she smiles; playing music definitely sounds nice to her. It seems like a good thing to want.]
I've never been any good at music, but... it's really nice. I like it. A friend of mine played it a lot, growing up.
no subject
[ Maki had put that day off for a long time before she told her parents. And it had not been easy for her, even if they seem to be happy for her now. ]
What did your friend play?
no subject
[More like twice.]
Harmonica. I know it's not as, uh, hard as a piano, but he was pretty good!
no subject
[ Breaking through a wall on accident. At least, she hopes on accident. ]
It's not any less impressive. Being able to make any kind of music, even if you can only sing without instruments is still important. [ She just loves any and all kinds of music. ]
no subject
[She knows Chie is pretty tough, after all.]
Yeah... I always liked it. And good music comes from the heart, right? I think I heard that. So the instrument's not as important as that, or... something.
no subject
[ Maybe...she shouldn't be talking about Chie like that...given that Maki just broke up with her a little while ago. ]
You're right. As long as you love music, it doesn't matter how you make it!
no subject
I usually leave making music to other people, though. It's nicer to the music that way. But I like to listen!

[ When it comes to something like this, Maki actually sounds full of confidence. ]
