[ Maki's at her piano today, tucking her hair behind her ear as she starts. ]

I've been working on a new song in the last couple weeks, but I'm having trouble thinking up lyrics. I'm not very good at thinking up words for my songs.

[ She's a little embarrassed to admit that in public, but she needs help! ]

It's kind of a love song, I guess you could say. But after last week I have a hard time writing anything...

[ Like breaking up with her girlfriend Chie so that she can hopefully be asked out by Nico. Life is tough. ]

S-So! If anyone is any good at writing lyrics or poetry or something, I'd let you work with me. Just get in touch with me, the sooner the better.

[To μ's:]

When is our next practice? I don't think we should slack off for too long, or else our hard work will be for nothing. Once I finish this song we can start working on that too.

[Stooping, Yukiko scoops up Jiraiya and hugs him close, brushing excess snow out of his flower as she does. It's not as easy as when he was a Bulbasaur, but it's still doable.]

Some of them, yes. Jiraiya is the Ivysaur, and Cassandra is the Absol.

[The Dark Type pads forward, feline in it's motions. She stares up at Maki, a look of mingled interest and befuddlement. She has a weird sense that her trainer might be mad at you...but she isn't sure.]

It's good exercise for them. And they like it, too. Gives them a chance to play and see new things.

[ Seeing how the Absol is moving closer, Maki manages to pull her hand out of her hair, her own cat-like ears twitching on her head. It's clear to anyone that Maki is a little uncomfortable, but she's trying and failing to hide it. ]

Nice to meet you, Cassandra.

[ Being a shifter herself, she can speak to the Pokemon, though she wonders if that's a good thing or not right now. ]

I usually bring Yaya, my Fletchling, but she didn't want to come... [ It's too painful. Not talking about what the both of them obviously want to talk about, and Maki breaks first. ]

I-I'm sorry I broke up with Chie!

[Both Yukiko and Cassandra stop and blink, looking at one another, completely befuddled by the outburst Did they say something?]

I...didn't say anything.

[Cassandra would shrug if she could too. But she's a quadruped]

I mean...I'm not who you should apologize you about that, Maki. Chie's alright though, so I'm not angry with you or anything if you're worried about that. And Cassandra won't hurt you either, she's very, very sweet.

[ Maki really is weak when it comes to holding things in. As soon as she saw Yukiko she wanted to apologize. Hell, she still thinks about calling Chie every day to just say she's sorry again. ]

I don't want to bother her... I'm sure she doesn't want to hear from me right now.

[ She's a little bit in a pool of self-pity, but realizes it enough to wave her hands in front of her. ]

N-Not that I think you really want to hear any of that...

[Yukiko takes another step forward, dropping Jiraiya back into the snow and reaching for Cassandra's horn to keep her from moving closer.]

Hey, Chie still cares about you. She said she thinks of you as a good friend. So...I don't think it'd be bothering her. Maybe give it a week or two and then say hi.

[A pause, and she takes a deep breath. She doesn't want to be harsh, but sometimes she just...is.]

And I...well, I don't really know what to think. From what it sounds like you two didn't seem very compatible. I really can't fault you for realizing that. Especially since you realized it before you both got too invested in the relationship.

...She said that?

[ It's hard to hear, it almost makes her feel a tear come to her eye, but she quickly wipes her face, to make sure that nothing falls down her cheek. ]

It's not like that... I really liked being around her... [ Maki can't say it to Yukiko, but she broke up with Yukiko because she was conflicted over her feelings for Nico, and couldn't be with Chie while she was thinking about the other girl, it felt wrong. But she hasn't been able to tell Chie that herself, and it would be even worse to tell Yukiko first. ]

I'm offering an outsider's point of view, Maki. I don't know you, but...i know Chie. And you two seem to be opposites. And that's fine...just not good for dating forever.

[ That still hurts to hear! She really liked Maki. And she's pretty sure it's just Nico's fault for making her feel this way, so much that she had to break up with Chie. Why aren't feelings easy to handle? ]

I guess you're right... I never really thought I'd end up dating anyone at all honestly.

Well, don't most people? I think dating is pretty ordinary.

[For anyone but Yukiko, naturally. She's just not interested.]

I-Is it? I didn't really...have any friends growing up at all.

[ Not until a few months ago, Maki had been completely alone. ]

Me...either, except Chie and Mitsuru, but it seems pretty normal? I mean, why else would it be accepted like it is?

[ Maki's hand goes to her hair to twirl it, not even realizing that she is. ]

I'm still really sorry, Yukiko. I know I must have hurt Chie, and that probably makes you hate me too, but I didn't want to stay with her and hurt her more.

[ She can't keep herself from apologizing at all really. Guilty conscious and all. ]

[Yukiko steps forward, reaching out ~~for the truth and setting a hand on Maki's shoulder. She does actually intend to make her jump just a bit, but her expression is as kind as she can be.]~~

Maki. I don't hate you. You're really sweet. I don't know why you keep apologizing, because I don't hate you. I don't entirely know what to do with you, because you keep apologizing, but I certainly don't hate you.

[And as if to emphasize the point, Cassandra slips up and starts rubbing her head against Maki's leg.]

[ Maki looks worried. Like she might be destroyed by the hulk any second but, Yukiko words are warm, and not as unkind as she expected. ]

I don't know. I just want to be friends with Chie still. A-Any you too. I'm not very good at this.

[ Dating, or making friends in general. She is happy to see Cassandra touching her leg, managing to smile a little. ]

[There's a hulk lurking in Yukiko, to be sure, but for the moment, nothing.]

Look. I'm not happy my friend is sad, but she'll get over it. I know that. I don't hate anyone. And I'm happy to be your friend, too. Having them is sort of important, after all.

[Social links...]

Honestly, Maki, you don't need to worry about any of that. Things happen, people grow apart. Life isn't a storybook, you know?

[ Maki nods a little, happy that she didn't have to worry so much about everything. She still has to worry about what Chie will say when she sees her again eventually, but at the same time she still has to figure out what she's even going to do now at all. ]

I'm glad I got to talk to you.

[Cassandra mewls happily and, mindful of her horn, nuzzles Maki a bit more.]

It's for the best, really. Clearing the air is important.

[ Maki's pretty used to being bumped like that, she's got her own Skiddo who loves nothing more than to brush against Maki. ]

Yeah, you're right. I guess...I'll see you around then?

Naturally.

[And with that, she snaps her fingers and does a little hairflip before going on her merry way.]
