If you ever go back into Wooly Swamp...
Log Deputy:
axiomaticgrue
Log Deputy Schedule: We'd like to request a 24-hour cycle; at least 1 tag every 24 hours (dependent on at least one player tag)
Participating Characters: Yuuna Sugasawa, Haruka Tenoh, Son Goku, Rei Ryugazaki, Merill, and Usagi Tsukino
Plot Description: A group goes out to explore the Northern Wetlands to see what they can find.
Warnings/Notes: Maybe language? Rated M for Mudkipz?
[The trip over the swamp hadn't been too bad, and given that there were enough large flyers among the party it'd really only been a matter of hours before they touched down at the edge of the marshlands. It was still late enough in the day that getting a good start wasn't entirely feasible, so a camp is set. The next morning comes quickly enough, and with boundless enthusiasm Yuuna helps get everyone ready for the trek up into the new area.
And with everything taken care of, she heads towards the edge of the wetlands, a staff in hand and galoshes on her feet positively vibrating with excitement. Her Pokemon seem restless too, excited to get going, but nervous about what they might find.]
Everybody set? Because we're burning daylight already.

...but there's no telling how deep the water will get in the other passageway....and frankly, Haruka doesn't trust him on his own in the Habitat so returning him - like she quickly does with Rushing Wind - isn't an option. She then picks Gold up fireman-carry-style so that she's got a Jolteon head peering over her shoulder, and static cling sticking her bangs to the side of his face.
She looks over at Rei, curious. They can see better down the left-hand passage, so it seems obvious to her. That or they split up, but. ] Is there something wrong with the water?
no subject
[Blustering, he pushed his glasses back in place in an attempt to hide his burning cheeks. He was going to trust Yuuna's word on this one, but he knew that his problems were going to become obvious in the near future....
He didn't want to admit to this many people that he was a water type trainer who sank like a rock!]
no subject
They should totally split up. Splitting up is guaranteed to result in something great; there is definitely precedence for this in all forms of media wherein splitting up happens.
On an entirely unrelated note unrelated to the unrelated activity of splitting up, the filaments are clearly noticeable dangling conspicuously the ceiling, but it's much harder to see them snaking along the floor. Which coincidentally is exactly what they're doing now.
Unless Joltik directs its light downwards, a few of our party members are going to be in for a nasty surprise in about two seconds.]
no subject
What did you expect, him to do something smart
He will unknowingly await his fate.
Unless someone says something to him.]
no subject
Gah!?
[Yuuna, at least, has the wherewithall to jump back.]
The floor! I told you those things were bad news!
no subject
What are you- YAAAAH! [NOW he looks down and oh ok crap he's doing this weird hopping dance in the water what does he do they're like right there does he STEP ON THEM?
Going to try to go backwards and dodge them maybe but this mud it's so thick crap crap]
no subject
[Merrill hops back to stand next to Yuuna, dancing in place and readying her staff just in case. Arishok, for his part, has taken to angrily stamping at the ground.]
no subject
.... Yes, because that's the only way she'll be able to keep herself from getting too lost. Because honestly, the last thing she wants to do is get lost in the swamp. ]
Cold water.. cold water!
[ She's heard the commotion the closer she gets to everyone, but little does she know that there are things on the floor.
Also, is that a blue pokemon in her arms? It totally is. She may have gotten distracted by bonding with a new pokemon and is trying to make it look like she wasn't missing for however long...
besides, it's the only logical excuse the mun can come up for not being able to tag into this log IMEANWHAT. But, at least Pinky is still safe and sound on Usagi's head! ... although the pink fairy pokemon is staring at the ceiling with comedic horror. ]no subject
This...there isn't anything beautiful about this at all!
no subject
In any case, caution is good - but not at the expense of progress. Haruka shifts Gold so that she's holding him with just one arm. ] Stand back.
[ Earthquake would be a bad idea in an enclosed space, but nothing says she can't Gust all this gunk out of the way. Even if that just makes the whatever-it-is angry, then they'll know what they're dealing with. ]
no subject
The Gust attack, sadly, is too little, too late and while the mud and gunk goes flying, the tendrils are a little more solid than that. With whip-like speed, the tendrils wraps around Usagi, Rei, and Merrill and yanks them into the passage of filaments.
The passage of filaments... and now that some of the gunk has been swept aside... very large cavernous openings....
Almost like mouths...
Sorry Rei looks like you're swimming either way. You're less likely to drown in digestive fluids than water, though!
The flytraps that haven't caught a victim will spew Acid and Stun Spore at the remaining three to prevent them from immediately coming to the rescue.]
RNGed for who Magnezone tries to help first.
[It's about the only thing word that comes to mind as Yuuna is hit with stun spore. It stings, and she feels her body seizing up as she reaches for a paralyze heal held at her belt. If she can manage that...she'll be okay. But some other thought springs into her head.
Magnezone's are immune to that stuff!]
Zedd! Get them out of there! Kyo, get me that spray!
[From farther back, the Tyranitar lumbers forward and reaches down to help his trainer. He's got hands and he's getting mental instructions...but give him a sec.
The Magnezone, however, is not so slow. Acid and Stun Spores do in fact roll off the Steel/Electric type's casing and in he goes! Beams of Steel-y energy spool up along his arms and he starts cutting at the tendrils holding onto Merrill with Mirror Shot discharges, trying to shred them.]
Zone! Magne!
[Don't worry, he'll get you out!]
no subject
And, above all, he needed to think.]
Shiro! Get us out of here!
[He called, summoning his Gallade to the field. Psychic-types were generally a good bet to rely on in most crises, and Shiro was not inexperienced in dealing with swamp denizens.
The slim, regal looking pokemon chirped, looking alarmed-- but he knew what to do.
Using his Psycho Cut, he lashed out at the tendrils with the blade-like arcs of psychic energy, planning on shredding as many of the vines as he could.
There was no way he was going to let his big bro stay in trouble like this.]
no subject
Arishok... good work.
[Lifting her Warp Band, Merrill replaces her Bouffalant with Flametongue the Heatmor, directing him toward the attacking group of Victreebel.]
Flametongue, give us some time!
[A few licks of fire flicker forth from the anteater's mouth before it blows a circular ring of fire around the Victreebel - a Fire Spin attack designed to keep the plant creatures back.]
no subject
She shoots another Gust at the flames to fan them and attempts to hurry past, but. Usagi.
Usagi, who she'd promised not to rescue....
Dammit.
...well, how's the girl doing for herself? That might make up Haruka's mind. ]
no subject
Joltik, you gotta help save them! Come on! You gotta use your Electroweb across those mouths! Please, Joltik!
[She can? But what if something happens... She pokes head out of his hair, glancing around. Everyone's in trouble, oh no... and her trainer is making the 'eeeeeh' and 'yaaaaaah' noises like there's something really serious going down. Okay. She can do this. Just. Jump. Yeah, jump. Ready...set...JUMP.
Joltik leaps out with a fearful little bug cry that no one can hear, landing on the wall and skittering somewhere in front of the mouths of the Victreebel. Letting an Electroweb fly across the gaping mouths, it'll try to get a Slash off on one of the tendrils before it freaks itself out too much and starts hightailing it right back to Goku's hair.]
no subject
She can see her pink little pokemon avoiding stun spores and Acid streams to the best of her ability, all the while trying to get back to her human to help. It's at that same moment she sees all the waves of flames being thrown in the direction behind her....
..... WAIT WERE THOSE VICTREEBELLS OH DEAR SAVIOR SHE DIDN'T WANT TO GET EATEN. Panic overtakes most of her brain processes and for a moment she can't think of anything but trying to escape, but then something clicks in her mind. Flames? Plants?
She can just hear Ami's voice in her mind repeating the fundamentals of raising pokemon and for once she's grateful for her friend's computer brain. Now's the hard part. So, quickly she calls out her Talonflame, who, once realizing that things are happening, starts squacking in concern for her human's safety. ]
Lucky! [ She doesn't get a chance to offer anymore commands, however, as she ends up back under water due to more tugging. But, her Talonflame is on the job and immediately shoots a Flame Charge at the Victreebel's in hopes that it hits the one that's trying to make lunch meat of Usagi. ]
no subject
Rei and Usagi are juicy enough for a meal.
Psychic and Fire types, on the other hand, were better understood. As Gallade appears, it tickles a ceiling filament and a Victreebel plummets bell-first down onto the swordsman to pin its arms in place, spewing Sleep Powder the whole way.
Fire Spin is quickly met with a Leaf Storm tossing mud every which way. Not exactly a ground type attack, but enough to quickly kill the flames and allow them to continue reeling in their prey. The Gust of wind, too, is blown back in the face of the greater aerial disturbance.
Electroweb captures one of the enemies, who shrieks loudly in protest, but well. Now there's an electric web strewn across its gaping maw. If any part of the two victims enters, they'll be shocked before being digested. The Joltik's Slash is met with an annoyed expression before a Victreebel leans forward and Tickles it away with a leaf. Evidently, they don't really care about what an Electric type might be interested in doing.
Flame Charge successfully strikes the Victreebel reeling in Usagi! But even as it soars past, another Pokemon reaches forward to pluck it out of the air and begins to Wring Out the poor bird's life. In the meantime, the pitcher plants steadfastly hold on to their prey and begin to retreat back through their extremely narrow tunnel...]

The Power Whip dings off his casing, drawing what amounts to an electronic snort of disgust from the machine Pokemon.
Fuck you, sir. You have scuffed his outer casing. Fuck. You.
Zedd's retaliatory move is to fire Magnet Bombs at the offending Victreebell, and the ones grabbing hold of Usagi and Rei. He's going for accuracy, aiming squarely for the creature's mouths. If you want food, well, how does a bunch of steel typed bombs right down your mouth sound?
On the other hand, Tyranitar's managed to get Yuuna's spray and squirted it on her to clear up the Stun Spore. Able to act more freely now, she's pretty pissed, a cold calm settling over her as she steps back to plan.]
Kyo. Get that thing off Shiro. Then give Zedd backup. We've got to get our friends clear.
[The Pokemon bellows and steps forward. His mouth glows and he tears into the top of the Victreebell currently attacking Gallade with Fire Fang, trying to rip it clean off and not caring a bit how badly he hurts the plant. He's careful not to bite Shiro, but that plant is going to have a bad day.]
no subject
Mahariel, help us!
[Thinking quickly, she activates her Warp Band, calling out her Gothorita. With her Shadow Tag ability, she'll at least be able to prevent the plants from fleeing before they manage to rescue the Talonflame and Gallade from their gaping maws. And for good measure, she's going to hit one of them with a Psyshock attack in the process - the one holding Rei's Gallade. Psychic types gotta stick together.]
Flametongue, you too!
[The bulky anteater seems more than a little annoyed that this battle has lasted even this long, giving a huff of smoke and fire from his mouth before complying. This time he's going to aim a Flame Burst at the Victreebel trying to eat Usagi's Talonflame, hoping that the splash damage will scare the others off as well.]
no subject
Merrill and Gothorita have taken care of the enemies' escape route, so she deposits Gold atop the Pidgeot and turns to both of them. ] Helping Hand, Tailwind. On me.
Jolt! Geot! [ The others seem prepared to save everyone's Pokémon, but Haruka's objective is the captive Trainers. As soon as there's a clear path through everyone's attacks, she's going to dash forward with increased Speed and Attack and try to Air Cutter the offending vines on both Victreebels with human captives. Hopefully that'll loosen their grip enough for her to get the Trainers to safety.
She's only going to have the one shot at this, though. She'll be getting in close to the enemy, and she's already hurt from the Acid. ]

Projectile attacks are too dangerous...in here! Get closer and give it a good taste of its own medicine!
[Nodding, the lizard understands, and with a roar, joins the fight. He goes for Rei, using a Fire Fang on the restraint, biting into it with as much strength as it can muster.]
no subject
Can projectile vomit improve their situation?
Gastro Acid floods onto Gothitelle as they decide the answer is yes, yes it can.
Magnet Bomb is duly swallowed by one Victreebel, who promptly makes a grotesque splurching noise... and yet surprisingly remains upright. When they say Victreebel are omnivorous, the omni is apparently literal. Tyranitar's target is wounded but stubbornly continues to clamp onto Gallade, figuring that it's impossible for Tyranitar to deal lethal damage without badly injuring its companion as well. Sleep Powder continues to spray in the meantime.
A curious thing happens around this point as the pitcher plants sustain some more damage. Each of them flash brightly, after which they seem to regain some strength...
And projectile vomit rules the roost again as they all use Belch simultaneously. The incredibly powerful Poison type attack coats positively everything in foul purplish ooze and acid as they attempt to use this opportunity to flee. Fire Fang and Air Cutter snap the tendril binding Rei as they part, though, and the plant releases its prey with a shriek. The Wrung Out Talonflame is less lucky as its plant, even while aflame, uses Synthesis to recover its strength and continues to attempt to strangle it.
And Usagi... well, no one's really helping Usagi that much, so she's dragged further along.
They'll settle for a swap. The Victreebel clinging to Gallade is probably not going to make it, so they'll just take someone in exchange.]
no subject
It's after the most recent one she narrowly misses from being dragged underwater again that she lifts her head to watch everything from the back of the Belch. The purple goop gets everywhere and if she weren't so preoccupied with trying to keep herself from being pulled in completely, she'd be in shock.
Usagi's Talonflame just screeches as it's still constricted, but, it doesn't stop, even after it's now on its last legs. Lucky tries its luck one more time and uses Roost so it doesn't pass out right after it Flail at the tendrils that are around it.
Pinky is worse off, having been covered in the purple goo, and practically falling into the water because it's so weak. But, just like the Talonflame, it doesn't stop until it's finally found its way back to Usagi's head and holds on tightly to try and get its barings again. It's still weak, but after a few seconds, it manages to flip open Usagi's backpack flap and reaches in to pull out all of the pokemon food, treats and all.
She's seen her human do this enough that hopefully it'll work. Pinky fully uses the bond she has with Usagi to give her an idea of what she's doing, and the waterlogged blonde just nods and raises the Marill she had just befriended right next to the Clefairy.
The Clefairy might be weak, but now, with the Marill, it uses Water Gun not to attack, but to project the food into the mouths of the Victreebel in hopes that if they feed it from afar, it'll become too full to want to eat Usagi. ]
no subject
Zedd, free Usagi. Kyo, get that thing off Shiro. Now!
[So, about that tendril holding Usagi? Let's...destroy it with lasers. Magnezone, unphased by acid, aims and fires off a Flash Cannon, the beam aimed at the cord like an arc welder. The robot drifts closer, maintaining the beam, fully intent on severing that connection and freeing the blonde.
A belch covered and now very, very angry Tyranitar, using his superior size and prodigious weight yanks straight up on the Victreebell holding Shiro hostage. It's teeth may hurt but that's better than getting eaten little guy. Once he's gotten some of Gallade clear his jaws clamp shut with more fire, and he starts to use his hands to Dig into the surrounding wall and drag the unfortunate plant with it. You sir, are going to let go.]
