I have a question for all of you! What are good hunting and foraging spots within the Verdant Forest? I'm trying to save up a bit of money, and unfortunately that means I've had to cut a lot of things out of my diet.

Food in general, for the most part.

I asked my Eevees to make similar sacrifices but they weren't too keen on that so there you go. Anyway, I've been relying a lot more on food I can find myself, but I find I'm still a bit hungry more often than not and Pokemon food really doesn't taste very good at all. Any suggestions?

As your superior officer, I won't stand by your blatant disregard for your own well-being. What could be so important that you would skip meals like that?

I can't say yet, but I'm looking to make some major purchases in the near future that will hopefully put my life on the right track. It's worth the price, but the saving is a bit painful.

[Rotom continues to blink, although now it looks like it's playing with something, a tail flicking at the bottom of the screen, and a brown paw occasionally swatting at its arms with a few cute "Vee!" noises.

Cordelia sighs heavily. You're so stubborn, Robin.]

Then, if you refuse to take care of yourself, I suppose I'll have to make larger meals. And before you try to protest, it won't work. I was about to start dinner anyway. I suspect you haven't eaten anything yet. You've at least eaten something today, right?

I'm coming over there right now, and we are getting you a proper meal and groceries. I will not accept no for an answer!

Well, I suppose I'm in no position to refuse. Be sure to bring the Eevee, I imagine he will enjoy the company of my Eevees.

Probably, but he's young and impressionable, and I do not want him picking up bad habits. Although it might not be a bad idea, Houndoom could use a break from babysitting duty.

[Noooo Eevee those are Rotom's arms, don't play with those. It shouldn't hurt cause you're a normal type, but it does. Rotom blinks in distress.]

[And true to her word, not much later there is a knock on the door.]

[Robin answers with a small army of Eevees waiting behind him. Looks like they knew who was coming]

[Wow, who were all these pokemon that were suddenly interested in him? Was one of them wearing bows? Amazing! You guys look so cool! Eevee bounds past them and into Robin's apartment.]

H-hey, don't go in there before saying hello, it's impolite!

I'm really sorry, I've been trying to teach him manners...

No worries, they were eager to meet him and I imagine it's hard to resist such a thing. Come in!

This was what I was afraid of, that he would pick up bad habits. He's already too much to handle.

[A sigh and a quick smile as she walks in. She appears to be carrying something in a bag--something that smells delicious.]

I hope that you're hungry. I made enough to last for a few days. I imagine you need groceries as well?

And no worries, I am quite hungry. My stores are low, but as said I am trying to be frugal, it's nothing you have to worry about.

Bad habits. Hopping up on the bed at night, rough housing, barking at odd hours.

Go ahead and sit down, then. We'll eat dinner and then assess the pantry situation.

[Robin does take a seat as instructed, but he is still arguing]

They were distraught! Surely they can't be held completely responsible.

Also they regularly sleep in my bed or with Quinglong.

[She pauses.]

Are you going to take your gloves off to eat? I'm surprised, I hadn't realized you wore them even at home.

[He pauses for a moment]

Well, I suppose now is as good a time as ever. I don't typically wear my gloves at home, but my evolution has bestowed upon me a rather... interesting condition. Here, it's best shown.

[He removes his glove and reveals black veins running across his hand and into his arm, which is concealed by his sleeve]

[That... wasn't what she was expecting. A burn maybe. But that? She keeps her expression as neutral as possible.]

Does it hurt? Is it just on your hand, or..?

No, it's something else. Put simply, it's a manifestation of my abilities. It currently extends from my heart and across my right arm.

[He pauses for a moment]

Sure.

[He removes his jacket and pulls off his shirt, revealing dark veins running up his right arm and stretching to his heart. If she watches closely, Cordelia might notice traces of red flowing quickly through them.]

[Cordelia definitely notices, but again keeps her expression somewhat neutral. She chooses her words very carefully, smiling gently.]

Evolving does strange things to the body. I don't think it is something you should feel you have to hide. It doesn't change you as a person. You are still you.

[And to break the tense moment, Eevee spots his lap and decides to plop down. Cordelia chuckles.]

See? Eevees still love you, and you have friends who I know would stand behind you no matter what. Myself included.

[Robin puts his shirt back on and smiles, petting the Eevee]

I appreciate it, truly.

Aw yiss pets. You even smell like an Eevee ARE YOU AN EEVEE? He flicks his tail excitedly, moving around Robin's lap to get the optimal amount of pets. Also known as all of them. He almost falls off a few times.]

I doubt that anyone would think any differently of you for it, but I understand why you might want to hide it. Just know that you don't need to hide anything from me--

[Whups he said the magic words his own Eevees are suddenly grouping around the table.]

[It would seem that Cordelia came well prepared, although she hadn't anticipated Eevees. She gives them all a look.]

And yet they still like to beg. I hate to deny them but as food's been scarce I've been forced to do so more often these days.

Robin, you're too soft. They can forage for themselves at a time like this. Although I really would love to know what has you in such dire straits.

Still, having the company for dinner will be nice. It gets a bit lonely at times.

If you travel towards the Lake Shrine there is a small creek that connects to the lake that has some very tasty fish! While surviving off of berries and stuff like that is possible, it helps to have some protein.

There are a few other places that are favorites of mine. If you go south-west there is a small grove of trees with plenty of berries, for example.

I would appreciate it! I'll have to learn to fish, I fear it's not one of my stronger points.

It takes a great deal of patience but once you get the hang of it, it's a very invaluable skill when surviving in the wilds!

[Rei spoke matter of factly, although there was no trying to hide that earnest grin spreading across his face. This has been a major subject of research for him for the last few months.]

You can find them in the forests around the city if you know what to look for. Dandelions and clovers are also edible and, if you don't mind a hike, the cattails near the swamp and the lake are also safe to eat.

Eating on a budget certainly introduces you to all kinds of interesting cuisine. I'd never thought to check the swamp, I shall do so.

There's a wide selection of books in the library about wilderness survival, if you wanted more information. A lot of it is basic knowledge, like how to make a shelter with minimal supplies, but there is still enough information about what plants are safe to eat raw or how to cook them until they're safe.

[Like fiddleheads. It's recommended that they're boiled before eating. The same went for many mushrooms...]

I'd be careful with mushrooms, if I were you. There's too much variability to be certain that they're not poisonous. The same goes for anything related to carrots or celery, as it's too easy to confuse them with hemlock in the wild.

Yes, I've seen a number of warnings on the mushrooms. I've avoided them entirely thus far.

That may be a wise thing to do until you can find a skilled gather to travel with for a while. There's far too much risk, and they can fool even someone with experience sometimes.

There are some way bitchin' mushrooms, if you know where to look?

But if I show you, you totally have to still leave some for me!

I will make sure, I would never take them all. I haven't tried too many mushrooms since some can be quite poisonous.

It's totally not that hard to learn which ones are good, though! I'm a total space-case, and I manage.

[He's also got a type-based vulnerability to Poison, which seems to give him if not a bit of a 6th sense for it, at the very least a bit more care than he usually has.]

Well, that's good to know! It would be nice to expand my options a bit.

You want a book about it? I have a bunch, but I don't use them anymore 'cause I've done it a million times.
