Who: Lenna Charlotte Tycoon, Aqua, Peter Parker, Hans Westergard, Kanji Tatsumi
What: Exploring the mountains
Where: Mountains, eventually leading to Coastal Valley
When: Some nebulous date during the current week that doesn't conflict with the Seeker expeditions or the Pokemon races
Warnings: None aside from the usual potential dangers in exploring new areas

[It's been several weeks, and Lenna has finally gotten approval from the Council to mount an expedition into the mountains to look for her father.  Ironically, had Councilman Tycoon been here, she would probably have been able to get permission much faster, but then there wouldn't have been much of a reason for her to go at all.

She didn't really want to talk too much about her personal reasons for coming here when recruiting her group, but a few of them have likely guessed at them anyway.  All the same, though, whatever their reasons, these five people have come together to bravely explore where few Unionites have gone before.  Lenna is ready for whatever comes, new friends and new Pokemon at her side.]

All right... here we go.  Everyone stay together - I don't know what we'll run into once we cross the peaks.

[The screen flickers on to show not a human, but an Eevee looking pretty smug about something.]

Is this thing on? Well, looks like it. It's really dusty...

[The Eevee is speaking, though he seems to forget that not everyone can understand him. He rubs a paw against the screen and then makes a slightly disgusted face as his paw comes back with a bunch of dust clinging to his brown fur.]

'Kay. Well, anyway. The boss and I recently got this thing here.

[The pokemon bats against the screen to tilt it so that a Thunderstone is in view.]

Since I kept pestering the boss about evolving, he found out that these things can make me become a Jolteon, so I wanted to show my evolution off to everyone!

[In the distance, there's a voice that sounds like it's calling for something or someone. Tonitrus' ears twitch as he glances back. His attention returns to the screen and he places a paw on the stone. There's a bright light as the Eevee's form starts to change, a jolt of electricity spreads around the glowing white form...and suddenly after a moment, a Jolteon is revealed!]

How's THAT? Pretty cool, right?

[The distant voice becomes less distant as in the background of the video, Aster can be seen approaching the newly-evolved pokemon. He eyes the Jolteon and shakes his head before kneeling before the video feed and speaking.]

Sorry about him bothering you all. He can be a bit of a show-off sometimes.

[The pokemon researcher eyes the Jolteon meaningfully. The Jolteon ignores this and instead rolls his eyes, plops down on the floor, and watches the screen before the feed ends.]

[ The time has come for the great Pokémon race! The Rhyhorn arena has been almost completely remodeled to accommodate the main event - an obstacle course tailored to provide challenges for various types of Pokémon and their riders. Vendors sell refreshments in the stands, and Haruka patrols the course on her own Rhyhorn, World Shaking; she's handing out the prizes later, but for now, she's the referee.

Pokémon-trainer pairs in the day's main event will be asked to surmount the following obstacles (in addition to flat stretches of ground for sprinting):

-- Rocks rising and falling from the ground, courtesy of some very industrious Dugtrio
-- A field of PokéPuffs suspended from Drifloon: grab a puff on your way through to clear the obstacle, but don't attack the helpers
-- A series of hedges to leap in rapid succession
-- A tunnel beneath a small waterfall - racers have their choice of going through the waterfall and into the tunnel or up over the obstacle using uneven, rocky paths on either side
-- And a big long stretch to the finish line.

Pokémon in the land mini-race will be called upon to sprint several hundred yards, then navigate through a maze - not a very difficult one, but a maze nonetheless -- then sprint to the finish again.

Pokémon in the water mini-race will navigate a fake river - it twists and turns - and then be called upon to leap through a hoop at the finish line. The hoop is large enough that big Pokémon can fit, but will need to be accurate, and high enough that little Pokémon will need to jump.

Pokémon in the midair mini-race will need to pass checkpoints at various altitudes in order - staff Pokémon are on hand holding the checkpoints and will flap their wings and caw as racers pass them. A Castform is wandering the field at random, and may periodically release a burst of rain.

On your marks, racers. Ready....get set....go! ]
