The Labyrinth of the New Moon
Most of Union was familiar now with the second world that had so abruptly inserted itself into their lives. They called it the Dream World: a place where fiction became more real than reality and where the imagination knew no bounds. If it weren't quite so intrusive, some might even find it an amusing place to visit - there were secrets to be uncovered here, surely, where the mental barriers of friends and enemies were relaxed, and powers to be taken advantage of. Who wouldn't want to host a pool party every night?
For a week, the people of Union continue to pop in and out of the Dream World until most have grown tired of the seemingly random nature of the disappearances. Low mutterings and disgruntled complaints begin to spread throughout the city, but it seems as if no one truly knows how to stop it. Giant fans to disperse the fog are suggested facetiously once, and a number of Fan Rotoms are seen working hard the next day... But such efforts amount to nothing.
On the night of the seventh day, something changes.
Those who pop into the Dream World tonight will realize immediately - the landscape has changed. Dream mists still swirl and eddy at random intervals, but the Neutral Spaces have grown dark and shadowed. There's no ominous feeling of danger, but rather... alertness. The sense that something unusual is about to happen.
Up in the sky, a shadowed moon gleams with a faint luster. A new moon. ...This is impossible, of course, but then, many things are impossible in this world. And no matter where you head, it seems as if each step takes you closer to that black moon, a gaping maw in the twilit sky... Step forward, retreat backwards, close your eyes and flee. It matters not. One more step and it has devoured you whole.
There is the sensation of falling, of spinning, of coming to an abrupt halt without feeling an impact. But when you open your eyes, you are not alone. Two or three others you may recognize are with you, and a long corridor stretches out before your group with doors dotting each side as far as the eye can see.
Welcome to the Labyrinth of the New Moon.
[OOC: All plot logs for people in the Dream World will occur here. Please make the first post with all the names of the people in your group in the subject line so people know where to post. Mod responses will come about once every 24 hours as long as at least one person has posted.
The group listings are here. We will not be running randomizers anymore, but you may still sign up with a full group of at least three if you can find one and tag in. Keep in mind though that the log may not be finished depending on when it is posted. You may also hop in an existing group as long as all existing group members give permission and the group is not full.]

Fine by me all the way!
[Kanji releases the door handle the second it starts to move. Okay, this is more than a little creepy. He's frowning a bit, trying to look unruffled, but frankly even he's a bit weirded out.
Never mind how weird this whole setup is to begin with.
Right. If Feliks can put a brave face on it (well... after using him as a shield...) he's got no problem.]
Yeah, this isn't a great theme for a party.
[And the whole 'quiet crying sounds' thing doesn't help that idea either. But - what else could be going on around here?]
TOTALLY
[Rei's tone was soft, but laced with steel as he joined Feliks in hiding behind Kanji for a degree of safety. He peered over Kanji's shoulder at the crowd, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in his gut that threatened to lock his feet in place.
If the others could be strong, then so could he.]
Those are Yamasks, [He explained quickly, recognizing them from the reports he had heard around the City and from his own explorations.] This...doesn't look good.

no subject
[He had been too freaked out to do much on the expedition he went on-- he realized too late that he was in over his head, and he counted himself fortunate that he had been in a group of experienced people at the time.]
...We can't stay here, but we shouldn't do anything to agitate them too much. Who knows what they'll do?
[And they were ghosts. While he had Shinkiro and Hanai on call, he doubted that the both of them could stand up to this many ghosts at one time.]
no subject
[And Feliks wouldn't know over the top if it hit him in the head.]
...Anyway, we're in Union, right? They're probably just people we know!
So come on, like, take that off!
[He moves towards one of them, to try and grab for the mask.]
Really sorry, for some odd reason my notifications are super messed up
With the group in their sight, they begin to quicken their pace toward them, joints popping and rotating in ways they shouldn't. A few try to pull at their masks, screaming in pain as they attempt to rip them off.]
no subject
He spots that one of the group and his heart skips a beat before starting to race.]
This - this ain't happenin', guys! That ain't Ma!
[...Gah. He can hardly breathe right now.]
no subject
...Fai?
[For a second, his voice is weak, shocked, horrified nearly beyond the point of being able to react.]
[And then his posture changes, his hands lighting up with fire.]
Let him go! Let all of them go, you total creeps!
no subject
All but three, that is. The Fai, Ma and Yuuna Yamasked shrink back slightly, moving toward the shadows. They don't appear to be nearly as nimble as the rest of the mob.]
no subject
But right now, the rest are more of a danger. ...Even if Feliks did start it. He starts to Charge up, ready.]
no subject
[Not away, mind you. No, he goes after the three retreating figures, whatever is or isn't in his way. Because if Fai is in there, he's keeping the others away from him come Hell or high water. A couple of Yamasked get a shot or two in at him, but he lashes back with the most powerful fire attacks he can muster -- which, at his level, aren't too shabby.]
no subject
C'mon, man!
no subject
This was nothing like anything he had anticipated. Truly, it was some kind of nightmare.
--It was Kanji's sharp words that brought his thoughts back online from trying to process the sheer level of danger and his own unease.
Surely, this had to be completely false.
Squaring his shoulders, he took a breath and steeled himself.]
Right!
[Nodding sharply, he took off after Feliks. Though he wasn't Enlightened, he moved with impressive speed.
Try beating a member of the track team in a land race. Just try.]
no subject
Rei manages to reach the three first, followed by Feliks and Kanji. They don't attack, but step backward, much slower, but more coordinated, than the rest. It takes the mob a moment before it notices that the trio have moved and, sensing danger, they redirect their aggression back at Feliks, Kanji and Rei.
They don't seem to be able to distinguish their comrades from their enemies in this fit of rage, attacking indiscriminately.]
no subject
[Feliks turns his back on the three slow-moving Yamasked, flinging another wave of flames at the crowd before standing back, ready to strike again. There's clearly no use talking to them, but--]
Fai? Fai, can you hear me? [His voice is still shaking a little, despite the power of his attacks and the determination in his movements.]
It's gonna be okay. Ok? We're gonna fix this!
no subject
Lay off'a them, jackasses, and lay offa us!
no subject
Hanai! [He called warp band flashing as the tall and imposing Pangoro joined them in the fray. The pokemon looked down at his trainer sternly, as if awaiting orders.
He didin't need to wait long.]
Get them off us!
[....It was all he could offer. Rei wasn't a fighter to start with, and he lacked a weapon.]
no subject
Fai-Yamasked doesn't seem to respond to Feliks's voice, but recoils from the group in a panic. If it is Fai, it doesn't seem to recognize it, a dark aura surrounding it. Yuuna-Yamasked and Ma-Yamasked follow in kind, darkness outlining their forms. The entire mob begins to radiate the same aura. It stops suddenly before crashing into the three, then, readjusting itself as one collective unit, they move into a defensive stance around the three.
Kanji's Electric attacks hit, and manage to damage some of the front liners, as more Yamasked scramble in front of the three.
Pangoro's Fighting moves don't seem to have any effect on them. He might want to try a different strategy.
The Yamasked line moves forward, trying to push them back.]
no subject
[They don't seem to be able to hear them. Feliks grits his teeth, and reaches for his Warp Band.]
Gods -- who knows how many of them there are?! This is so--
Emilia!
[A Houndoom appears from the Warp Band, her hackles raising as she puts herself defensively in front of Feliks. He might be the leader of their weird, mixed-species pack, and she respects his stength, but he's small, ok? And he's kind, and sort of a childish human, and he looks like you could snap him like a twig, and basically there are just dozens of reasons why Feliks Must Be Defended At All Costs.]
Emilia, use Roar! If that doesn't work, use Flamethrower -- go for the masks!
[Trusting her to carry out his part of the fighting as she leaps towards the group of Yamasked with her most threatening snarl, he reaches for Fai-Yamasked, hoping against hope that somehow, he can break through that darkness.]
Come on, it's me! You know who I am, right? There's no way you don't!
no subject
Right. Sticking with what he's already doing, mostly, which involves a lot of Thunder Punching if anything comes too close.
Shouting over his shoulder-]
I don't know what's goin' on! But I don't want t' fight ya! Just let 'em go! Ma - if you're in there somewhere, if this is a dream of yours - listen to me!
no subject
As both blonds get close to their prospective Yamasked, they'll notice something, albeit subtle. There's something off about their appearance--maybe the hair isn't quite the right color, or some kind of feature is totally wrong--but it becomes painfully apparent.
These aren't them. They're imposters.
As if realizing that their ruse has been uncovered, they quickly reel back further, energy surging more. The mob leaps into action, surrounding them on all sides, but incredibly careful not to hurt the three. Were they controlling the mob?]
no subject
Rei wasn't much of a fighter. If anything, he was an observer. While he wasn't on the front lines like the other two, and his only pokemon that might have an affect here was still far too low a level for him to feel comfortable bringing out in this chaos, he was still trying to find some way that he could help.
The quick withdrawal of the trio and the subsequent actions of the rest of the mob weren't lost on him.
--Indeed. It was like a game of chess, and they had fallen for the bait.]
Everyone, we've been doing it wrong! [He called, trying (and likely failing) to keep the panic out of his voice.] We've gotta get them-- not for why you're thinking!
no subject
[And there. As he gets close enough, gets a better chance to look, it's the little things that start to go together. Hair's too light. A bit too small.]
They really - dammit! Lady, you ain't got the right to look like that!
[Switching from defense to attack, to try and get close and get his hands on the impostors...]
no subject
[So what are these three?]
[Feliks grits his teeth, the gods-awful smell starting to get to him now that he realizes it's not Fai, that there's no reason for worry for him to override everything else.]
Oh, my gods! Quit messing around with us!
[He lunges for the Fai Yamasked, grabbing directly for the mask and trying to set it on fire, with Emilia providing as much cover for the three humans as she can manage.]
no subject
The mob stops, and the sound of a mask clacking to the ground echos. Then another, then a torrent of sound as each one drops, the bodies disappearing completely.
The imposters' bodies disappear as well, save but one; Yuuna-Yamasked.]
I see not all humans are as simple-minded as they seem.
[Its body distorts, the mask's eyes opening slowly to reveal glowing blue slits.]
