Who: Everyone!

Where: The Tropical Island
What: The end of summer is quickly approaching, get your last bit of summer fun in now!
Warnings: Beach episode shenanigans.

Bright sun, warm sands, rolling waves, the tropical island was the place to be. With the new port making travel out much easier, the island was seeing a surge in tourism. Something about fighting giant fiery gods must have made people eager to jump into the water and relax.

Yes. Yes it is. Tyranitar lowers a hand and scoops up Ralts, setting him on his shoulders.

And that cry? Attracts his trainer's attention. And wakes her up.

"Ryugazaki? What's wrong?"

"I can't find him," Rei said quickly, launching off into his explanation without any further context. "He's so small, and he keeps wandering away.

...I don't want him to get hurt."

He was focused entirely on Yuuna, eyes anxious behind the lenses and plastic frames. Beyond his sight, the little Ralts waves his arms in delight. So high, so high!

And that prompts Kyo to open his mouth and grunt out a rather booming greeting and a sign to look up!]

Tyran!!!!

[The little Ralts cheered in delight while his trainer leapt out of his skin. Rei whirled around-- and stared.]

Shiro!? What are you doing?

It looks like he's playing with Kyo?

[And sure enough, the big rock monster is basically holding him up and letting him scamper around on his shoulders.]

He'll be fine.

[...Oh. That was Yuuna's Tyranitar. Now everything made sense-- Ralts had good instincts, Rei remembered reading. They were sensitive to the feelings of the people and pokemon around them, and wouldn't approach a threat as openly as Shiro had approached Kyo.

Rei sighed, looking embarrassed.]

...He's not even a week old, [he explained, clearly chagrinned.] I've never taken care of a baby before.

Oh believe me, i haven't either. Suzume's kept me really busy, no lie.

[And at the mention of her name, a little Dratini slithers up out of the sand, popping out with a warbling hello to the stranger. She may or may not have decided to go burrowing for gold.]

But Kyo'll take care of him, don't worry.

[Rei did believe her-- and he believed that he needed to trust in Shiro as well. ]

They do seem to be getting along well. [He said, smiling, before he crouched down to see the new visitor.]

Afternoon, Suzume-san. Are you having fun?

[Dratini dives back into the sand and pops out right in front of Rei, playfully wiggling her tail.]

tini!

[She's very excited! And hello hello! Will you pet me?]

She's really, really innocent. But she's going to grow up to be bigger than Kyo, here.

That's right-- she's going to be a Dragonite one day, isn't she?

[He asked, reaching out to pet the Dratini on her smooth skin. She was so soft~]

It's hard to believe that this little one will get so big one day!

Yep, that's right.

[Dratini coils up and slithers up Rei's arm, curling herself around it and slithering up and up!]

Probably not all that long from now, if Kyo's any indication.

[Whoa, there, little Suzume! You're moving fast!

Rei glanced from the Dratini over to the Tyranitar-- and let himself feel relief when he saw Shiro watching everything on the beach from a vantage point on the giant reptile's head.]

Your pokemon do evolve quickly, [Rei noted, glancing back to Yuuna. He knew that Yuuna was like him, not Enlightened in the least, so her Pokemons' quick advancement was quite interesting.]

Well. Actually, you know...some people just have talents when working with Pokemon. I'm starting to notice it for sure. Mine have grown up a lot faster than a lot of my friends. Especially Kyo.

Maybe that's mine. I dunno.

That could be. It would explain a lot of the things that have happened so far.

[Like how the tiny clumsy Bergmite became a massive Avalugg so quickly, for one.]

...I'm not sure what mine is yet, honestly. It might be something that will just reveal itself in time.

Maybe it's being overprepared and ridiculously cautious.

[She grins and smacks him on the back gently.]

Or maybe it's your ability to research stuff.

Only a fool goes into the wilderness unprepared, Yuuna-san. And we are no fools!

[He's going to stand by that point, no matter how many shoulder slaps and teases he receives for it. It's a perfectly reasonable policy!]

But the study skills are just something I picked up from school. They're really nothing as special as you might think.

Well, I actually think you're better at it than me.

[She snorts a laugh.]

And I never forget anything I read.

[Rei chuckled, and smiled in return for what, to him, was a grand compliment.]

If you really think so, Yuuna-san...thank you.

I never did give you a proper thanks for helping me get those photos out to the papers. You're quite the sidekick, y'know.

No-- no thanks are necessary. We had to get those photos out one way or another. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to help.

Shush, Ryugazaki. You just get to come with me on my next trip, that's the reward.

[She made it sound like it was such a fantastic reward, or that he would somehow be a hinderance to her...although he knew she was just teasing, he still felt that spark to try harder. He didn't want to fall further behind than he already was.]

Where are you going on your next trip?

[It is a fantastic reward! It's going off to do important things.]

South of the Crater Plains. I think they call it the Wildwoods. I wanted to wait till the leaves started to change colors though.

If the region lives up to its name, then that would make for a very lovely trip. All of the colors...

[It would be a veritable pallet of reds, oranges, and yellows!]
