[Since the Heatran incident, you may have noticed that Asemu has redoubled his efforts in his job. It's gotten to the point where it's affecting his health and his ability to stay awake, so on his mother's orders, he visited the doctor. The doctor gave him only one prescription -- time off.

Well, Asemu has never been one to be idle, even when he's off duty. So he's been visiting the marketplace, buying equipment to go fishing (perhaps you've seen him). This way he can take some time to relax while increasing the size of his Pokémon collection -- and he's feeling the need for Water-types after that last incident. Luckily, as a ranger, he has a Good Rod -- though he hasn't actually thanked Ezreal yet -- so that's one thing out of the way.]

[when Asemu appears on the screen, he looks pretty tired, to say the least. He might even have bags under his eyes, albeit not very noticeable ones.]

Hey, um...the doctor told me that I need to take some time off for a while, so I blocked off the rest of this week and all of next. I've got a Good Rod that I haven't used yet, so I think I'm gonna spend some time fishing. Anyone want to join in? I haven't been fishing since I was a little kid with my dad, but I remember that it's better with company. Just meet me wherever I'm going for a day and fish with me.

[OoC: Feel free to assume that your character has seen Asemu around. It's likely they've noticed that he's either too busy or too tired.]

[It's...been a few years since they spoke, but Rei does remember Asemu. And seeing him this tired? Definitely not something she finds all that comforting.]

I...haven't ever been fishing. Where exactly are you going, Asemu-kun?

Ah...Rei! Long time no see.

[Hastily, Asemu tries to appear more alert. It's probably too late to fool anyone, least of all Rei, however.]

Um. I just kind of figured I'd hit all the known spots over the next week. Verdant Forest has a few fishing spots, and then there's the Lake Shrine and the sea.

Only a year or so.

[She smiles mildly, giving him a little nod of acknowledgement.]

Would you be willing to show me how? I'm...starting to work at becoming a better trainer, and I think maybe eventually I should try and bond with a Water type.

[Maybe. Eventually.]

[Asemu can't help but wonder if it's really been that long. Then again, it's been about that long since he finished school, so it makes sense. He's quickly jarred back to the conversation, though.]

Oh, sure! Yeah, sure thing. It's not too hard to learn, so it shouldn't take long. And fishing is always better with company.

A Water-type's good to have, too. Kou -- my Gyarados -- has been amazing, plus he's one of my strongest Pokémon.

[And Rei had been avoiding school the last few months, so...]

I figured they might be. I'm just...well, they're sort of the opposite of me. So, I haven't really tried to catch one. But if you're willing to show me, and I suppose lend me a rod, I'll give it a try.

When are you planning on going? I'll make free time, and we can catch up some then.

I know the feeling, since I'm the same way. Just, um...try thinking about it this way. Since you've got a Fire-type affinity, you should know the type as well as possible -- including what's good against it. So picking up a Water-type or two can help you cover your bases. And if you end up against other Fire-types, like I did last week, you'll be better than almost anyone else at fighting against them.

[Oh, right. She did ask him something else.]

Oh, um, I'll probably start over the weekend. I'm totally free, so whenever's betst for you.

Alright. I'll...meet you at the gates then? Just name a day.

Okay. In that case, let's go with Sunday.

[And come Sunday, Asemu leads the way down to the shore, then summons Kou, his Gyarados. They ride him out to the tropical island.

Asemu has his Good Rod and a tackle box. He's also dressed for swimming if he feels like it, with a button-down shirt, swimming trunks, and sandals on, and he has a basket of sandwiches for lunch. Once arriving, he hops onto the beach and begins to set up camp.]

[Sunday she does indeed meet up with him, happy to do so. She's dressed in a swimsuit of her own, with a t-shirt over the bikini, a sunhat for shade, and sunglasses perched on her head. The trip is impressive enough, the massive water type totally wowing her.

Climbing off, she sets out a few towels and an umbrella, helping him as much as she can. She'd thought ahead too, and came with drinks and bento-boxes laden with onigiri and other simple foods.]

It's definitely a nice day for this, I think. Thank you for taking me along, Asemu-san.

My pleasure. Anything to catch up with an old friend.

[He sets down the tackle box and begins setting up the rod.]

Okay, let's see, do I want a lure or actual bait...

Well, what would you be using for bait?

[She peers at the tackle box, curious.]

[The part that Asemu is looking at contains two things -- a transparent jar full of yellow-orange balls and a white cup with a lid on it.]

Cheese balls and worms. Vargas says the worms are better, but they're trickier to hook.

[Vargas being Asemu's great-grandfather. For some reason, both he and his father refer to his mother's grandfather by his first name.]

[Well...Rei doesn't know who he is, but she shrugs.]

Cheese sounds less wriggly, at least.

[And that's a start, right?]

OK, then let's start with that.

[Asemu takes out the jar, unscrews the lid, pulls out a cheese ball, and fixes it on the hook.]

So then you just hold down this lever with your thumb, and swing the rod forward to cast your line.

[He points to a small lever near the spool of fishing line. It appears to be some sort of release.]

And when you see the bobber disappear under the water, you probably have a bite. That's when you start reeling in.

Want me to show you, or do you want to try it on your own?

[She watches intently, fixing each motion in her mind while he talks about it, and nods once, sharply, when he's done.]

Show me first. Then I'll try.

Sure. Okay, stand back a bit.

[Asemu plants his feet, pulls the rod back, presses down the release lever, and swings the rod forward. The line flies out into the water, with the bobber floating atop it. Then he reels it in and offers it to Rei.]

Just like that.

[Watching, she nods in understanding and accepts the rod, pulling back for a cast and managing a passable one. The bobber doesn't land to far out, but it's not on sand either.]

Hrmm. Do I need more force? Or is that alright?

[Asemu ponders it for a minute, then walks out into the surf.]

Hmm... I think a little farther out would be better.

[She nods, reels it in and casts it out a second time, this throw landing a good bit further out.]

That...seems better. Now we just wait here?

Yep! Might as well take a seat. We could probably start on the food now, if you want.

Why not? It's been a nice trip, and I'm feeling a bit hungry.

[She makes for her bento.]

Do you have a preference?

[Asemu shakes his head.]

Not really, no. I'll eat whatever.

[Then he'll get the one with the grilled stunfisk, since he's being such a good sport hauling her around.]

It's really rather nice here. A wonder the place isn't more crowded.

[Which he'll gladly accept! He eats a little bit before responding.]

The novelty wore off. Back when it was first discovered, it was a lot busier. People were even wandering into the volcano.

[She looks back at the mountain...curiosity sparkling in her eyes. Volcano you say? Fire Types live around volcanos...]

And they came out again?
