What: Pamela’s 19th birthday party. Everyone is invited.

Where: The Isley manor

[Although Pamela’s mother Cordelia Isley is a known socialite, the Isleys don’t often throw parties – or not large ones, anyhow. Pamela’s father Walter Isley is a high ranking Engineer and a workaholic, so most Isley parties are just small affairs organized solely by Cordelia, or sometimes by Pamela’s grandparents, Hugh and Jocasta. In the latter case, the parties tend to be for an older crowd.

In light of Pamela’s nineteenth birthday, her recent evolution, and her involvement in the diplomatic relations between Union and Caldera, her grandparents felt generous and decided to throw a large party. Pamela herself had been hoping for a small event, but her grandparents and mother were having none of it. So Pamela took it upon herself to personally improve her grandparents’ front yard and garden. There’s a long winding path leading up to the Isley home, thoroughly adorned with flowers that are in full bloom.

The invitation was extended to everyone in Union as well as their Calderan visitors. Although nowhere near the entire city is here, there’s still a fairly large turnout of people from all social stations ranging from poor to nobility.]

Can you get away with it? You aren't an uncouth and ill-mannered commoner like me.

[Said somewhat smugly.]

So do you dodge these events often or is this more of a one-time thing?

[She blushes a bit.]

Not usually! This is more of a recent thing. I used to really like parties like these when I was growing up. But it's much different when you're a child as opposed to an adult, especially when you had certain expectations to uphold.

[A beat, then a bit of a smile.]

But they're a bit more fun nowadays.

I guess it's nice not having to play the game.

I still have to play a bit, but the stakes aren't nearly as high. And I actually have room to have fun now, which is a nice change of pace.

See? There are advantages to dating a lowly commoner.

I knew that already. And you're not that lowly.

But still a little lowly.

Only enough for it to be endearing.

I guess I can't argue with that.

Still, I'm surprised you're out here at all. What excuse did you use to get away? I saw who you were sitting with, and they can talk for hours on end.

Turns out if you do it fast enough, you can grab someone else and toss them where you are and they don't even notice. They're entirely too impressed with themselves to really remember what I actually look like. They probably think the other guy is me.

You didn't! That poor soul! He probably had no idea what had happened.

If he's smart he'll find a way to do the same thing and the circle of boredom will continue.
