[The camera wobbled in and out of focus for anyone who happened to tune in that morning, and close observers would catch a glimpse of movement-- of trees, and of a very curious pair of eyes, glimmering in excitement, peering into the feed.]

--Tama-san, [A voice, a young man, said in an almost chiding tone.] I know you're excited, but you don't need to hang. all. over. me.

[He swung his arms, trying to free himself from from Tama's grip, but the momentum of the movement threatened to throw the both of them off balance.

Defeated, Rei stopped and sighed wearily.]

Alright, we can stop for a snack, although you'll lose your appetite at this--

[He broke off mid-complaint, eye widening when he noticed that the camera feed was live.

The moment of surprise, however, was short lived. Rei fussed with his glasses, suddenly adopting a cool, composed demeanor now that he realized that he had been noticed.]

Don't worry-- nothing's going on. We know exactly what we're doing.

[--The composed aura didn't last for long. A Mantyke, still young, fully appeared on screen and tackled the young man.

...Clearly, it didn't want lunch. It wanted to play.]

I'd say that's something to be proud of. He'd probably give a lot of other pokémon the run around, wouldn't you say?

[A lot of energy means a lot of time spent training!]

[Or knocking his trainer into the pool for funsies. Tama liked to play hard, and wanted his trainer to play just as hard.]

I can't answer for other pokemon, but he definitely gives me the run around. No matter how many books I read on the subject of taking care of a Pokemon, I can't quite figure him out.

Well, sometimes books don't tell you everything. [Not that Goku would really know, but he does have kids.]

You just have to learn as you go. You'll figure it out, or, well...I guess you're just going to get tackled a whole lot more until you do!

[All of the talk about learning by doing flew over Rei's head-- give him concrete data that he can add to his analyses, and then they can talk. But, this...]

I don't see why everyone keeps saying that. There's no way I'm going to know how to properly take care of a pokemon unless I study he data available first. Otherwise, Tama-san's going to get himself sick by eating too much or something that I can't even guess yet.

Well, you could always try not feeding him too much of anything. That'll make anyone sick.

[Blunt and honest. That's Goku.]

I know, but..you haven't tried saying 'no' to him.

Huh? Why? What does he do?

[Is it really that bad...?]

He insists-- like he's doing now!

[Tamago flopped all over Rei as if on cue, acting with the insistence of any child who just wanted to play and have fun.

Shopping? That was boring. Grow a sense of adventure, Rei!]

Oh....? [He stares in wonder at the pokémon.]

Ahahahahaha! He just wants to have a little fun, why don't you try playing with him, that'll get him to calm down!

No it won't!

[Rei squirmed under the pokemon before giving up and flopping onto the ground. If Goku were observant, he would notice Rei's cheeks flushing a brilliant shade of red...]

Well, you don't know until you try! Get him, Tama! Yeah! [Goku just starts laughing. It was kinda funny.]

[It may have been entertaining to watch, but Rei was far from actually amused-- both his pride and his sense of aesthetics had taken a hit, as there was nothing elegant in Tama's antics.

The young Mantyke flipped his fins around, whacking Rei with a cheerful cry upon Goku's encouragement.]

Tama-san~ [Rei moaned, burying his face in his hands.] We're not getting anywhere at this rate!

Hahahaha! Come on Tama, I think you've really given him enough, let him up! [It was so nice to see the young pokemon having so much fun.]

[Tama did let up-- reluctantly. He knew that they couldn't go play unless they did their work first, but work was so boring!]

Thanks... [Rei said, offering a sheepish smile while he tried to collect his composure. It was hard to be cool when you had a pokemon wanting a piggyback ride!]

We'll get out there soon, I promise. Just please be a little patient until we do.

By the looks of it, you might not have too much time before he tackles you again. You'd better hurry and go out and play before he gets a little rough.

Right, Tama?

[Stranger, you're terrible. No one in their right mind has any business encouraging a prankster of a pokemon into bad behaviors.

At least, anyone who had any sense of decency. Rei looked from the screen to the pokemon. Tama did nothing to hide his grin. ]

Aah-- we can get some ice cream when we're done here, Tama-san. Does that sound good to you?

[Because, seriously. One does not just venture into the wilds without having a well stocked supply bag on them.]

[This amuses Goku, because it's pretty adorable honestly.]

That's a good idea, what do you say to that, Tama? Promise not to tackle him if you get ice cream?

[Man, what a handful!]

[Just don't say those words out loud, Goku. Rei doesn't like to think of himself as 'cute'-- it's so undignified!

The Mantyke nodded in agreement. Ice cream was more than acceptable repayment for a boring shopping trip.]

Great, then it's settled. See, you've already got a good handle on this, uhhhh....

[Name for the blue haired boy?]

My name is Rei, [he said, returning his gaze to the warp band feed.] And all it takes is a little practice and patience, I guess. Tama-san likes to play.

...What's your name?

I'm Goku, it's nice to meet you, Rei. I'm sure you and Tama will have a great time.

Oh? You really think so?

Well sure, why wouldn't he?

[Doesn't everyone find that fun anyway?]
