Hawke's been plenty busy these past weeks helping refugees and running errands for people; he's finally getting used to the city, and becoming familiar with it, as well.

It's not unusual to see him walking to and fro trailed by a pack of puppy Pokémon. The Houndour sticks to his side like a second shadow, but the Lillipup, Vulpix, and Growlithe all have a tendency to trail behind from time to time when an interesting person or Pokémon catches their attention.

Lillipup will busily investigate anyone sitting on a bench or at an outdoor cafe table, sniffing efficiently to determine if there might be any forthcoming treats.

Vulpix is mostly attracted to people or Pokémon that appear to be alone. She herself doesn't like to be alone, so when she notices that condition in others, she makes an effort to change it.

Growlithe likes to join groups, especially if it looks like a game is going on. If you're training with your pokemon, don't be too surprised if you suddenly find yourself with an addition!

Hawke is pretty good about noticing the straggler and doubling back to collect, but sometimes it takes a few minutes. Plenty of time to make a new friend!

Hello there.

[Lillipup has accosted a strangely dressed woman who's carrying around an apple stuck on the end of a knife. She had been munching away at it until this Pokémon just came up and started staring at her.]

You're a curious little pup, aren't you? I'd take you home, but I think my Purrloin would get jealous.

[Munch.]

[hawkethat]

[That's okay, Miss! She's already got a home - she's just interested in your snack. She sits directly at Isabela's feet, looking up appealingly at her and wagging her little tail endearingly.]

Do you even eat fruit...?

[She shrugs, pops the apple off the knife, slices it, and hands the Pokémon the half she hasn't been chewing on.]

Not like I paid for that anyway. So are you a stray like myself, or just wander off from your partner?

[hawkethat]

[This Lillipup eats anything, up to and including fruit! Excuse her and thank you, Miss, she's just going to be mowing down on the proffered apple slice, now, little tail wagging at top speed to show her appreciation.

If Isabela strains her ears, she might hear the sound of someone calling "Paladin!" Or she might not. The Lillipup hears, though; her tail misses a beat at the sound, but resumes as if nothing happened. She doesn't even pause in her munching.]

Well stray or not, you're a precious and appreciative little thing. Want to come home with me? I've got some more food and I can always convince Purrloin she needs a sidekick or something.

[Paladin looks up at Isabela and cocks her head to one side, listening to this offer. She's not going to take it, because she's pretty darn happy with her human, but it's an interesting proposition nonetheless.

While she ponders, Hawke finally shows up. When he spots her, he sighs a little at the incriminating apple crumbs in her facial fur.]

Paladin.

[That is the voice of a man who has perfected cramming an entire scolding into the three syllables of the scoldee's name. What have I told you about begging? combined with If you keep this up soon you'll be too fat to move and a touch of you're going to be too heavy for me to pick up anymore at this rate, is that what you want?

The Lillipup manages to look a little ashamed as she scampers over to him. The Houndour at Hawke's heels greets her by sniffing her face and licking off the apple crumbs. Hawke, meanwhile, has noticed Paladin's latest dupe conquest acquaintance.

I hope she wasn't bothering you.

[Isabela sees that struck-through narration. She's rather used to it, even if she's gotten more used to where are your pants lady in this town.]

Not a chance. Actually, I was this close to stealing her.

[She takes a couple steps closer to Hawke.]

You've got a cute little Pokémon there, Mister...?

[hawkethat]

[Pfff, pants? Hiding a pair of legs like hers with pants would be criminal.

He looks back down at Paladin, who is still patiently enduring having her face washed by the Houndour.]

If you steal her, you have to promise to make sure she gets enough to eat. I'm warning you now, though, she eats enough for a pokemon five times her size.

[And now looking back up at the sassy pantsless woman.]

Hawke. It's a pleasure, Miss...?

Captain Isabela. Although you can probably drop the captain part since we're in a town without a decent ship to its name.

[She folds her arms, and keeps her eyes on Hawke's when he looks back up. She's mostly curious where they're going to go next.]

Captain, sorry.

What happened to your ship?

[He's not asking to be a douchebag, he's actually genuinely curious.]

Well, there I was, sailing around and ruling the waves as a pirate queen and what have you, when I got bored and sailed into a hurricane. In the middle of it I found this huge blue Pokémon, so naturally I shouted a good-natured greeting across the water. I'm pretty sure he tried to talk back, but he was so massive that what came out was an enormous tidal wave. I was a bit distracted trying to understand his Pokémonese, so I got washed off the deck and back into the hurricane. I got a bit turned around and rather than finding my ship, I wound up here.

I hope I can find that fellow again, I'm pretty sure he was accepting the idea of a partnership.

[Well, that's at least as crazy as Hawke's story about how he blew into town, so he's not gonna question it.]

I wish you luck in finding him again. [pause] Perhaps he's found your trousers.

[He said in the most serious way possible, ever. Except not.

Yeah, it was only a matter of time, really...]

I'll have you know everyone dresses like this where I come from. And I don't normally get complaints from men about it.

[Because he wasn't. Hm. Must be slipping.]

Sorry if I'm a little touchy. You know how it is. Poor lost stranger in a new town.

[Yeah she's not even trying to be serious. Or convince him she's actually some kind of damsel in distress.]

So, Hawke, what do you do for fun around here?

Being lost is pretty exhausting.

[think nothing of it. Now, to her next question...]

Oh, all kinds of things. Mud fights, treasure hunts, drinking contests, howling at the moon...there's a little something for everyone here.

I'd say you have good taste there. Not sure if I've ever tried howling at the moon, though.

It's good for stress-relief when we're too far out of town to get to the tavern.
