The Battle for Caldera
The time for action is at hand, and the players have been set in place. Those who choose to make an attempt at diplomacy head off at the appointed time to meet with Valeria, the clerk and representative of the general who leads the Gigas army. Those who wish to take more direct action against Gigas leave with General Ironbrand to put their plans into motion. In the meantime, the refugees continue to stream into Union, while supplies are gathered and flow the other way.
The outcome of this war may very well depend on the combined results of these four efforts…
((This log will be a catch-all for all four efforts of the attempt to save Caldera. There will be four different parts of this post: Diplomacy, Aggression, Refugees, and Supplies. The first two should be well established, but the Refugees portion will encompass bringing those in Caldera who require help to Union and giving them medical aid and care, while the Supplies portion will encompass people in Union setting up shelters and gathering resources to send back to Caldera, as well as other miscellaneous tasks that may be of help. Gathering resources may entail leaving Union to explore out in other areas. You all signed up for groups, so please try to maintain these groups when posting, particularly to the Diplomacy and Aggression sections. The other two may be more free-form.
Mods will be responding at least once every 24 hours to keep the logs moving.
EDIT 5/31: Please try to group up if possible! We'll generally try to wait for threads to have 2-3 people before we jump in. Threads with 3+ may attract the attention of something a little more... interesting.))

[ Or they can head back to Union and try to recruit others, if anyone is uncomfortable about that. ]
So... This way. [ He turns to talk to the Drifloon after a moment though, talking about a Sulion and Truffdae and takes the basket as the ghost floats off. ]
no subject
That sounds like a good plan to me!
[However, he notes with a mental frown that Hilda is being rather unfortunately quiet and he looks over to her with a slight look of concern.]
Hilda, are you all right?
[He speaks softly, a touch of worry in his voice. She's usually talkative enough--at least from what he is used to from her. It worries him slightly that she's hardly said a thing other than when she greeted the others. Was she perhaps uncomfortable, then? Maybe that was it...hopefully it was not something worse, but he would definitely keep a closer eye on her just in case. He didn't want his friend to not feel well, after all! And if she was bothered by something, it surely would not do for her to get lost or stumble over something in their path and get hurt because she wasn't paying enough attention!]
no subject
Yeah. I just didn't know what to say.
[ Her voice is quiet as well. Sam looks up at the two of them, but keeps quiet. He could understand why Hilda was being so quiet. She's pretty out of her element, around all of these brainy people. ]

...I believe I have run out of contributions to the current conversation as well.
[Oh look, there are the city gates. He... might have picked up his pace a little in some vague hope that getting out of Union will somehow provide a topic of conversation he knows more about. Help, how does he speak to non-scientists to make them feel included in the group?]
no subject
... No objections either, then?
[ Guys, he really doesn't know what he's doing, this route just seemed like it would work- ]
... If we think we're all set, then we can start for the Lake Shrine now. [ His drifloon isn't back, but he doesn't seem worried about it. ]
no subject
[He's still a bit worried about his friend, but he won't voice those thoughts quite yet.]
Let's get going, then! It'd probably be best to get back before dark, or else we'll have to camp out or fumble around trying to find the way back, and that might not be a good idea.
[Honestly, Aster's still just nervous about being out for so late. He won't say it, of course, because he wants to keep morale always high and he doesn't want anyone to worry about him. Those worries would dissipate with time, hopefully.]

I'm at least pretty familiar with the Scorched Forest. That's where I met Oliver and Gavin.
[ Her Magby and Slugma, she means. She loves them both. Even if she can't tough Gavin at all. ]
Once we get there I'm sure we'll be able to find plenty of burnable things.
no subject
Indeed. If it happens to become late however, Astrid and I have experience with camping, so we will have little in the way of problems in that regard.

[ Flattest tone ever - is he joking? Who knows, he's facing away. Because that is totally the best use of his psychic abilities. Glowing at night.
And off into the woods! Yay, nerds are leaving the city. Duke's Drifloon comes back with a Palpitoad held in its thin arms, and that's probably all the excitement that happens via pokemon.
Duke gets sidetracked looking at plants once in a while. Don't mind him. ]
no subject
[There is surprise in Aster's voice, but no disbelief.]
So, then, does that make you a human torch?
[
Nervousjoking aside...]That could come in handy if we need light. At least if it gets dark, I can see pretty well. I think?
[If any pokemon are seen, Aster would also be stopping to watch for a few curious moments. He has no room to comment on Duke's sidetracked-ness.]
no subject
The Shrine itself also radiates the same sense of quietude it usually does. If Duke hasn't been there before, he'll note that the plant variety shifts subtly towards those favoring a wetter biome, with an increase in mosses and lichens and so forth.]
no subject
She's easily impressed. New places just did that to her, it seemed.
In any case, Hilda is aware that they're here for a reason, and they need to get to work now that they were here. ]
Okay, so ... food and stones?
[ Let's confirm with everyone else. Awkwardly. ]
no subject
Food and stones.
[Awkward confirmation is awkward. Whose idea was it to let a bunch of nerds be in charge of a supply run?]
no subject
Right, they're out here for things. ]
A rocky area would be best for finding stones.... While shrubbery would be best for finding edible plants, right?
[ He might have just checked with Laulyse to see if his plants guess was good. She's much closer to a grass type than he is, after all.
Low bushes and creepers. Or just the trees for Berries! ]
... So small splitting up? Stay within sight of someone, or perhaps everyone else?
[ why did you let him somewhat organize this again? ]
no subject
Food... Um, I'm not exactly the best at identifying or finding edible plants and berries, so I think I'll try looking for the rocks around the water.
As far as splitting up goes... Maybe, but--I mean, we could do that. If you all want to.
[A pause.]
If we think rationally about it, anyway, it would be more efficient.
[So long as nothing happens.]
[Tonitrus huffs. He wasn't going near water, and he says so.]
no subject
Lily can tell me what's safe to eat, so I'll help look for food.
[ She didn't sound too nervous just now, did she? No? Yes? Maybe?
Lily seems to notice, and even though she doesn't know what it's about, she nuzzles herself a little against Hilda's legs in reassurance. Hilda leans down and gently lifts Lily into her arms with a smile. D'aw, babby Petilil. ]

...Perhaps we should remain in groups of two, just to be sure it is safe.
no subject
[ Because Shrieking Energy Things...
Duke wants to go see. But he's also very sure that its a bad idea. ]
.. Lets avoid the edge of the water for now? I don't want to find out what range that has...
[ And here he studies the gathered pokemon. ]
... I think it best if Aster or Hilda stuck with Dhaos, as uncomfortable as it could be? [ He knows you two are friends, but he also thinks you guys might be a bit hazardous to let wander together. ] .. We overlap, thus...
no subject
[A moment of thought, and then realization.]
Oh. Right, uh, I-I'm fine with anything, really. The most important thing is that we stay safe. Definitely...
[Thinking, thinking... What would be best for this? Aster takes a deep breath.]
I don't know what sort of things you two can do, so I'll leave it to you guys to decide the groups. I'm not very strong--I'm just fast. Tonitrus isn't very strong yet, either.
I shouldn't be a burden if...if whatever that thing was decides to attack. At least, that is, I could probably get out of the way if the attack doesn't happen without warning.
[Probably.]
no subject
I'm of the same mindset. I'll go with whatever you guys decide. Planning isn't exactly a strength of mine ...
[ Actually it was more of a strength of Aster's. If she were separated from Aster in any way though, she'd be worrying about him forever until she could confirm that he was okay. ]

Or perhaps we should change plans and attempt to either find or make a more defensible location. Astrid says that whatever it is that's shrieking, it appears to be large and heading in our general direction.
[Er, well, he's actually reading her mind, but that's usually not something one wants to advertise is something they can do.]
no subject
[ Thirded is pretty much what all of Duke's pokemon say. ]
This way, as quickly and quietly as we can-
[ Duke is a little sturdier than he looks, so he might be trying to shoo Aster and Hilda before him toward the water's edge.
Why does Duke want to go toward the water? Maybe because it seems like the forest isn't much of a deterrent. Maybe because Dhaos is part water type. Maybe because he's still thinking about hunting for flint. ]
no subject
[Of course, that was if it was something that could track it. It could be something that didn't, or human or...]
[The blonde takes a deep breath. Okay. Relax. Right. He doesn't want to head to the water and lose control and accidentally shoot off electricity and kill everyone. Controlled breaths. Think. Quiet.]
[Tonitrus, on the other hand, complains softly about the water, clearly not happy as he takes a tentative step into it and then enters it.]
