SIDEQUEST; Investigate the Caverns!

Description: There's something disrupting the signal in the caverns! Renko's gathered up some help to investigate. Hopefully they can figure it out!
Warnings/Notes: None that I'm aware of!

Looking for a way to help in proving herself to the community, Renko had heard about a potential signal disruption originating from the caverns located outside of Union. Knowing she'd be unable to do it herself, and strength in numbers was always a solid strategy most of the time, she had found a couple of others willing to investigate the disturbance with her.

Getting to the caverns was the easy part. It was traversing through them that had Renko interested. Caves had always seemed dark and mysterious. Certainly worth exploring, with or without a goal in mind. Even though she was lacking in the whole being an Enlightened thing, she did her best to keep up with them. Hopping alongside her was Akamu, her Seedot and Proteus the Solosis was in her arms. Her Cleffa as usual, slumbered in her bag.

Turning for a moment to speak to whoever was closest, she broke the silence. "Exactly how far do these caverns go? Have they ever been mapped out?"

Marisa had just followed along at this point, broom held tightly in her hand. Spark, her Jolteon and Magus, her Haunter followed her carefully, as her Cherrim rested in her hat for now. They stuck close, just to try and keep the nervous Enlightened calm. She did look up from her thoughts, and frowned a bit.

"It's pretty deep last I heard. But mappin' them out? I dunno think anyone's ever asked nor wanted ta."

Normally, Reimu might have left this sort of thing to others, but she was getting bored so when this Renko girl told her about the signal disruption, she figured why not. Of course, she was slightly wary of the girl since she figured out that she was from that Gigas place, but there wasn't much point in making too big of a deal of it right now.

"I haven't heard of anyone doing that either." She admitted, looking around. She was discreetly keeping an eye on Marisa, like she usually did when they went into a situation where they were potentially dealing with ground types. More just in case than anything, because the witch could handle herself, but it was still always a little sticky in situations like this.

The wariness of the first two was nothing compared to the outright prison guard mentality of the third. Ran had followed along, ostensibly as a break and a method of training her three pupils, but had so far been spending much of her time glaring at the Pokeballs on Renko's belt as if they would explode or something. One couldn't help but get the feeling she was seeing something a little more than just the devices. Either way, she seemed to be less a companion and more some sort of chaperone.

"I wouldn't know. I am rather a recent arrival," Ran added, a slight bit of ice creeping into her tone.

As the group traverses the area, any metal items they are holding will start to gradually, gently pull toward a side cavern to the left.

"Maybe I should look into it sometime, then." It would be helpful for anyone else who might need to wander through these caves. If Renko had thought of it beforehand, she'd most definitely be doing it now, but she didn't have what she needed.

While the icy tone of Ran's voice didn't go unnoticed, Renko was genuinely curious. Being a recent arrival herself, Renko hadn't seen Ran with Team Evolution, and the tails certainly made her stand out. So what civilization did she come from, if any? "Oh? Where are you from?"

Renko could probably have launched into a dozen questions from there, but she was distracted when one of the empty pokéballs on her belt was pulled off and started rolling away. A magnetic pull was definitely something of interest! "Hold onto anything metal you've got. There's a strong magnetic source down here." There were Pokémon that could do this, she knew, so it was best to follow the rolling pokéball with caution, which she did. Somewhat. She set Proteus down at least, simply so she could have her hands free.

A shrug of her shoulders is all the response that Renko was going to get at the moment. The idea was sound..but with how things kept changing around? Marisa didn't see a point to it. Besides, she was curious about the pokeballs somewhat. Also the tone from Ran had her decide to keep quiet for now and try and figure things out on her own, as she was the only one that didn't have a full opinion on what had happened.

But she did startle at the sound of the ball hitting the ground and rolling away. She watched for a moment, gripping her broom a bight tighter and glancing to both Reimu and Ran for a moment, just to see what they thought before following, mounting her broom just in case at this point. 'Hey, It's not good ta run off on your own, wait up!"

Reimu had noticed the way Ran seemed to be acting towards Renko, but that wasn't surprising since it seemed she was a pokemon shifter and all. Seemed only natural she'd be more sensitive about the pokeball thing. Though, she did get the feeling there might be more to it than that, even if she had no real reason to know what that might be... If she was new around here, did that mean she was one of that large group of Pokemon shifters who arrived a while back? Well, this wasn't the time to ask about that.

Speaking of pokeballs, Reimu blinked for a moment when she saw one of Renko's pokeballs start to roll off like that. She didn't have any metal things on her herself, so she didn't notice anything. Renko was probably right that they should see what was causing that.

"Well, I guess that's a pretty good lead to start with." She commented before following Marisa and Renko.

"Oh, a little village called Mist. You've probably never heard of it." Although she seemed to be keeping a very close eye on Renko, almost as if she were gauging if she HAD heard of it. Odd.

Ran raised an eyebrow as one of the horrid little devices detached from Renko's belt and began rolling in a specific direction. Orange, her Espurr, stared at it in amazement before beginning to pad after it, clearly amused. "Orange, be careful. We don't know what's down that way," she cautioned.

The path itself is quite dark, it hasn't been traversed and there are no lights set up. The party will need to provide their own light to continue on.

"Mist?" Actually the name did ring a bell, although not how Ran might think. "Someone asked me if I was from there, actually. I didn't know there was another settlement nearby."

Renko paused for a moment when Marisa called out for her not to run off. She didn't get very far before she realized she couldn't see anything. Even if she wanted to continue, she couldn't just blindly feel her way around the rock. "Does anyone have a light? It's pitch black down here."

Marisa just sighs and rolls her eyes a little bit. This was going to be one of those trips she could see. It was enough to keep her mind from anything else for the moment.

Although darkness wasn't exactly the opposition she was expecting. "Huh..Looks like no one's been down here if it ain't lit up ze. Let me try something.."

A hand brought off the broom and she closes her eyes for a moment, a bit of flame springing to life in her hand. It wasn't much but it was some light at the least. Golden eyes open once more, still trying to keep her mind on maintaining the flame.

Reimu heard that sigh from Marisa and couldn't help but agree. This looked like it could get annoying quickly. Hopefully it wouldn't get in the way of them accomplishing what they were here to do at least.

She shook her head and concentrated on the task at hand. When Marisa conjured her fire so they could see better, Reimu decided to call one of her Yin Yang Orbs and light it up. "Let me help with that."

Then she looked around the cave to see if she could spot anything.

"There WAS another settlement. It's gone now." Hmm. So the girl hadn't heard of what happened to Mist, at least. Or so she seemed. Ran supposed she didn't really have any reason to doubt Renko at her word. But those devices WERE present at the attack. She supposed there was a chance that the attack simply hadn't been discussed in that other city. Still.

She blinked a bit at the other two, and withdrew a bit. Now was not the time to let her petty feelings out, even if she didn't entirely trust Renko. All for the best the other two were lighting the way; she could instead focus her own Pokemon instincts on detecting any non-visual cues. "Orange, Naranja, Dalandan. You three be on alert too."

The three kitty-like Pokemon nodded, sniffing about.

The light illuminates what appears to be a narrow tunnel leading deeper into the caverns. As the party travels, they notice something, a soft blue light ahead as the tunnel begins to broaden, opening up into what appears to be a larger cave.

"That's a shame. I would have liked to see it." Renko was being quite honest. Any other settlements or civilizations could hold something new and exciting. That was one of the reasons she decided to stay in Union, after all.

While initially disappointed that she hadn't come prepared with some form of light herself, Renko was thankful that at least two of her current companions did. Pausing for a moment to allow Marisa and Reimu to catch up, it wasn't too much longer until she spotted another source of light within a deeper cavern. "Look at that!"

A quick glance back to Reimu and Marisa nods, taking one side just to keep the spread of the light to both sides. At the moment, she's just keeping a keen eye out. "Spark, Help them out too." The Jolten nods with a quick reply of "Jolt!" and moves about, nose to the ground to try and help.

Well, it wasn't prepared as natural talent due to what they were buuuuut still. That light isn't exactly reassuring to her, but it's better then nothing. "But...What is it though? It didn't look like anyone's been here before though."

Reimu took the side opposite of Marisa and glanced down at Ruukoto, but she didn't really need to say anything since the Slyveon seemed to have gotten the idea already.

Frowning at the weird blue light ahead, she tried to think about where it might be coming. "Probably whatever's causing it isn't anything human." Could be a pokemon, or could be something. They'd just have to go check it out.

"Perhaps it is some form of natural cave lighting. I have heard of such things," Ran commented. "Still, I suppose we should be ready for anything." She sniffs in the air, as if hunting for any sort of more challenging life form than some algae.

As they approach, the magnetic pull gets stronger, but the moment they enter, it suddenly diffuses. The cave they stand inside is entirely magnetized, with blue energy arcing around it visibly lighting the cavern.

"Perhaps. Whatever it is, finding out what's causing it will allow us to try and figure out a way around it."

Renko couldn't help but stare in awe at the cavern they found themselves in. It was...beautiful in a science sort of way. Well, this would also explain the disruption with the signal. A strong magnetic source could easily be the cause of it.

"I'm assuming this is what we're looking for."

"Probably..but what's causin' it? It kinda reminds me of the last little cavern searchin' ya know?"

Okay, Only one of the group would get what she was talking about but still. Marisa will look about, not letting the fire go out just yet. Better to be safe then sorry in this case.

"As long as there ain't something messin' with the pokemon..."

"The real question is, how do we fix it so it's not interfering with the signal anymore?" Reimu mused, looking around.

It was a good question as far as Reimu was concerned. If was some kind of natural phenomenon, then it didn't seem like it'd be easy to deal with.

"I believe I have heard tell of these sorts of phenomena before. Rumor has it places like this are ideal towards the evolution of certain Pokemon, although I cannot confirm the veracity of that." She looks around, peering closely at the arcs.

"Which... hmm. That may also mean a place like this might attract something. Stay on guard."

As the team enters, they start getting a bit of interference on their warp bands. This is definitely the area that's causing the disturbance, but it's not the core source.

Before leaving the city, you were all given beacons. These small, disc-like devices fit in the palm of your hand. If placed and secured near the area that is producing the signal, they will help neutralize the issue - but they must be secured in order to continue to do so. However, they must be placed near the source to be effective, so the team will have to explore deeper into the cavern.

"Whether it's messing with the local wildlife or not, it's still messing with the signal."

Renko does catch that mention of it possibly being a location used for evolution. That information may very well be useful down the line. She'll definitely have to come back and map the place out another time. But first things first! They needed to find the exact source of whatever is causing this disturbance.

"Okay, let's spread out a bit. Using our warp bands, let's see if we can find a spot that's causing the greatest disturbance. That's what we need to find."
