Event: The Thawing
As discussions branch and mount in Union about how to handle Gigas's diplomatic overtures, news of a more pleasant variety reaches the city from Glacier. Although still rebuilding from their own city's far more disastrous dragon attack, the people have banded together to host "The Thawing", their annual celebration of the coming of spring. In appreciation of all Union has done for them, all citizens of that city are invited - encouraged, even - to attend. Glacier has its own pride, after all. It would like to show its new allies what it looks like at its best.
Just...don't expect to go without a sweater or a jacket. The city may be "thawing", but that doesn't mean it's warm.

[Adell didn't quite know what he was getting into, coming to Glacier for the Thawing, but it sounded like fun, and from what the rumors said, the people up here would be his kind of people. And boy, once the celebrations really got rolling, did he find out were they ever. He couldn't think of many other places where the idea of wrestling Pokemon would be something they'd do at a festival, let alone one of the most badass Pokemon out there for wrestling. That is, outside of Hawlucha. Or a Machamp.
Still, Ursaring were huge, strong, and scary. For most people. Adell though, he'd been working very hard training and he wanted to test his skill. So... he picked the biggest, baddest Ursaring that was willing to wrestle, and got into the ring with it.
At first, it really didn't look like it was going so well. The thing was much stronger than even he thought and he strained and struggled against it for the first half of the match, barely holding it at bay. That is, until something inside him, some kind of raw power awoke, right in the middle of the match. He started glowing, faintly at first, and then brightly, blinding. The Ursaring he was wrestling growled and backed off, just as he shouted loudly, and erupted into a sheathe of searing flame. A few moments later, the fire subsided.
Adell stood, a little taller than before, but with much more confidence. A sharp-eyed person could see every part of him looked stronger than ever. Fire surged from his wrists and ankles, and his hair crackled like an open, uncontrolled blaze. Mid-battle, it looked like he earned his third tier evolution.
He cracked his knuckles.]
Now you're going to get it. Let's go!
[Aftermath]
[Hope you bet on the Calderan. Always bet on the Calderan. Adell walked out of the ring triumphant, took a bow, and went to go take a rest. For now, anyway. Catch up to him afterward, if you'd like.]

[ He may recognise the voice, even if he hadn't met her in person previously. There's a smile, however, as Sophia slips past the crowd to say hello, a Dewgong following anxiously behind her. Ymir, however, keeps a respectfully wary distance, the Doublade mindful of all that fire. ]
How are you feeling?

Thanks! That Ursaring was one tough customer... but after what happened in there? Now I feel like I could suplex a Steelix!
[And he certainly looked confident enough that he could... intensity burned in his eyes brightly. A Fighting type, through and through.]

I've seen Pokémon evolve previously, but I've never seen the evolution of an Enlightened before. I hope fighting isn't required for everyone.. [said with a smile; she's very much the opposite of Adell but she has respect for his choice to fight] I don't think you'll find any steelix around here, though, it's a little cold and bright for them.

And yeah, I thanked my opponent. He was a pretty good sport about it too. I think he's gonna want a rematch again sometime. He just had that look in his eye, you know?
[Determination and pride made for a heck of a combination in Pokemon and humans alike, really...]
I don't think it has to be. It might come with age... or just training. Doesn't even have to be for battle, it can just be for self-improvement. Exercising, using your abilities, finding your limits, and then pushing them further out. Though that tends to work better for body than mind.

I've seen it, though not in myself. Just mind you don't accept any challenges from some of my more..spirited companions, please. [Thrudgelmir wouldn't hesitate to throw himself into a fight, for example]
I'm sure psychics - both of the human and pokémon types - might disagree with you there. [she's smiling though] So, now you've won your victory, what do you have planned next?

[But then he laughed, rather heartily.]
I won't, I promise. If I know they're yours, I won't fight them for fun.
[And you can take that promise to the bank.]
Now though? Probably keep trying to improve. And failing that, focus on finding more Pokemon to bond with, and training with them. We might learn something from each other. That way, whenever we're needed somewhere, we can be ready for trouble at any time.

[she chuckles, too. An icepack can only ease a mind so much, she supposes - she'd have to ask a healer how psychics handle migraines!]
Thank you. Ymir here isn't likely to want to fight you. [you're neither sword nor steel
nor Sanger] But some of the babies don't know any better.[ And she'd rather not risk them, even if one or two are born fighters. Or determined to be protector to her. ]
Haha, well, those are excellent goals! [her eyes twinkle] But, ah, I was actually referring to the surrounding festivities.

Oh! Yeah. I think I'm going to sample some of the local drinks. I keep hearing they're great, so I gotta get in on that.
What about you?

They don't charge for them, either, they seem to think hospitality during a festival is important first and foremost.
I want to check out their crafting booths, see what they have to sell here. And see how well people from Union handle ice skating.
[She will not be skating herself.]
