[Action: Verdant Forest]

[It's still very chilly for day trips into the forests outside the city, but even with the wintry weather Raine tries to make an effort to step outside of the walls to gain more of an understanding of the surrounding area and allow her Pokemon to do so as well. It's another form of studying, this wandering practice, considering how much time she ends up spending in the library, especially now with working there as well.

Today's trip, however, features both the Oddish and the Eevee as her companions, the pair that came with her from Sanctuary. Both are wearing little knitted scarves, and the jittery Oddish is huddled up in a small blanket on the ground, while the Eevee paces the general area, curious but cautious.]

See? It's not so bad out here. You two barely get out enough as it is... and this area seems quiet enough.

[For now, anyway. If those two don't get startled.

Of course, if anyone needs to reach her, they can through the warp band.]

[A chilly day for a trip, but not for everyone. In the distance, Raine and company will catch the distinctive sounds of combat. The clack of wood against something hard. And a vaguely human-like noise of surprise...

Someone might need help?]

[The sounds of combat don't put the Pokemon with her at any ease.

She wavers a few moments, of course, listening, wondering if she should mind her business, particularly with the reactions of her companions, but still... a small peek to confirm the situation probably wouldn't go amiss, either. Considering that those sounds weren't exactly stopping.]

Stay here. I'll be right back. [The Pokemon seem dismayed by that, the Oddish hiding in it's blanket while the Eevee flattens itself near a large tree root. But once she's satisfied that they'll stay put, she takes the steps toward where those noises are coming from... cautiously.]

[She'll find that the sounds are coming from a pair of Pokemon. The smaller avian creature's leek smacks repeatedly against the tonfa-like armbones of the Gallade, driving the taller Pokemon back. And...not terribly far away, seated on a stump is Yuuna, watching in astonishment and scribbling on a notepad.

The dance continues, none of them noticing the newcomer, even Yuuna. Her eyes are too intently focused on the new species and it's rather unique attitude...]

[That's an unexpected pair to observe duelling, as Raine peers through her vantage point to watch. Given the presence of Yuuna, it must be some sort of training exercise between companions, though that species... it seems like a good time to put her analyst skills to use.]

But why the stalk...? Hmm...

[The Farfetch'd has a few levels on the Gallade, it seems, and it's clearly restraining itself. The fighting doesn't stop when she speaks, either, the two competitive Pokemon disinterested in the human.

Yuuna looks up though, and answers.]

It fancies itself a swordsman, I guess. Unusual species.

I haven't come across a species like it before in my studies. [Her eyes practically light up with her curiosity as she continues to watch.]

Are they simply sparring? They don't seem to be evenly matched.

It's new, actually. Native to the Steppes. This guy challenged me to a duel and followed me home after I beat him.

[The bird thwacks the knight on the helmet-like shell of it's head and dances away. Point, set, match.]

And yeah, it's just a spar. Koki, the Gallade? Is pretty young. The Farfetch'd, seems a lot older. But it's hard to say with a new species.

He seems to carry himself in an experienced way... his level is quite high as well.

[Certainly more than her own, though she didn't exactly push her limits.] So the species is called Farfetch'd? Did you see any others? He must have been impressed to follow you out this far -- oh! The expedition! How did that go?

He's trained pretty hard before I found him. And I guess he wants to work with me more. We bonded not long ago. But I didn't see any others, no. I mean, they've gotta be there, but I was in and out.

[And the more important question!]

As for your survey? It went well. I was going to call you tomorrow, but you saved me the trouble. I got that map filled in, and I'll have Sophia deliver you a copy in the morning when I've got it copied.

I didn't go too close, figured you'd want to check out that rock yourself, but there were some man-made ruins near there. Rubble, mostly, but polished and smooth. With metal bits around too.

Well, if he spent most of his life out there, traveling with you will help him see new things as well.

[She nods, taking in all of the information as Yuuna speaks.]

Fascinating... and thank you. The map will be very helpful, whenever I do get that trip underway. There are so many areas I'd still like to see for myself someday.

Absolutely. It's no trouble at all. I was in the area, like I said. Didn't see the point in leaving a map unfinished, and that was basically the end of it.

[She rubs her chin.]

I'd be careful though. It's not full of particularly dangerous Pokemon, but there are some pretty aggressive bug types. Pinsir in particular.

Pinsir? [That hadn't been a species that had too much documented about it, to her recollection.] I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with them... they have large horns, don't they?

They do. Horns shaped a bit like a Kingler's claws. They've apparently got a Mega-Evolution, if the reports are to be believed as well. I didn't see it myself, but Turnip kept them at bay anyway.

The short of it? They're aggressively territorial. Bring Fire.

I'll certainly keep that in mind. Sounds like I have some more reading up to do.

Mmmhmm, probably. Our reports are public domain after review, and I know the library just got those from us.

When you do head that way, let me know so I can at least keep tabs on where you might be. In case something happens.

Yes, of course. I'll have to check on the new reports when I go back in. Sometimes I get so focused on the past records...

[There's a rustling from behind her. Seems like her Pokemon came looking for her, though they stop as soon as they catch sight of Yuuna.]

Oh I know all about that. [A fond smile.] Sorry for interrupting your day out. Looks like your friends are looking for you, too.

So they are. [The Oddish mostly a blob under the blanket, the Eevee hopping over to Raine's ankles.]

I'd better tend to them. Thank you again for the information.
