The Day of Fire. [Calderan Summer Solstice OPEN log]

It's the morning of the 21st and it's clear even to the inexperienced Unionite, Refugee, or Citadel resident that the city has a different air to it. If it wasn't the atmosphere that got them, then the stalls lining the streets would. Many people are still working on getting set up for the night festival, but the stalls that are complete are lining many corners and they are filled to the brim with bright colors. From afar, the streets look like someone threw a rainbow of paint across the city.

They haven't seen anything yet.

It's not yet time for the festivities so any visitors are free to wander the streets. The natives seem to be delighted if amused at all the people interested in the holiday and are happy to sell anyone as much colored powder as the want. Sometime close to noon is when things change. The natives all kind of stop what their doing. The colored stalls start to close up and everyone looks tense.

A long, rattling trumpet sound rings through the streets and that is when all hell breaks loose.

It's every man and pokemon for themselves. Have fun everyone.

[Ooc: Feel free to make your own top levels in addition to using the prompts below! Have fun guys!]

Some people prefer to lay in ambush or strike from above, making it their goal to get as many people as they can while staying clean themselves. Elka, as anyone who knew her could guess, is not such a person. She LIKED this holiday. It appealed to her rather simple sense of humor and love of physical action.

Already, half her face was purple and the other half was orange. All of her clothes and visible skin was a similar riot of color, and this didn't bother her at all. Laughing, she grabbed someone's (your) shirt and poured green powder down the back of it.

In this case, that individual is alot taller than the young woman-- and he immediately turns to drop a pile of green on her head.

"C'mon-- it's rude to do sneak attacks like that!"

He wasn't even paying attention to exactly who his opponent was. With everone being covered in so many colors, it was hard to recognize anyone!

"This is a melee! No such thing as a sneak attack in a melee!"

To prove her point, she blew a cloud of orange into Cliff's face. There was something familiar about him, though she couldn't tell what behind the colors.

Gah--

[Sputtering now, he lifted an arm to cover his face and blindly threw a handful of purple at her.]

Now that was a low blow!

[Melee or not, this girl was tricky. The moves were familiar, but it had been so long that he couldn't tell anymore...]

"It was above the belt." She argued, thankfully leaving out an example of a below the belt hit. However...

"...Do I know you?"

He eyed the young woman carefully now, concentrating on the features that stood out among the mess of colors.

"Maybe? Everyone whose grown up here has passed by everyone at some point." He shrugged, followed up with a grin.

"Who cares?"

To punctuate his question, he dumped a pile of orange on top of her head.
righthandmage: (And THAT'S when we clap them in irons!)

"If that's how you want to be about it."

She did something very odd, next. A complicated gesture drew all the color out of the powder that was caked to her and into her right hand, leaving her looking almost clean again. She threw the last handful of hyper colorful powder at Cliff, who found himself in an explosion of rainbow dust.
aerialassault: (uncool -- not sure)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2015-06-25 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Whoa!"

Cliff didn't even have a chance to duck-- just cover his face with an arm while he charged through the cloud of dust to get clear. There were few people who could do exchanges like that, and even fewer who could do it with something as innocent as color.

Once clear, he cast a wild eyed look at the young woman.

"It can't be. There's no way it's that easy..."
righthandmage: Also your face is stupid (I dislike you for a number of reasons)

Of course, now Cliff was even MORE unrecognizable, so Elka was still drawing a blank. Also the displaced colors were already starting to seep back to their original locations, the moment she stopped focusing on them, turning her back into a colorful mess.

She reached out and just tried to wipe his face clean. Personal space is for other people.
aerialassault: (surprise -- say what now?)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2015-06-25 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Two can play at that game! Cliff reached out as well, trying to clean some powder off of her with a laugh-- and then stopped when he noticed her hair piece that had been lost in the mess of colors.

"Hah, knew it!" He grinned. "It is you, Elka!"
righthandmage: (This wasn't in the job description!)

[personal profile] righthandmage 2015-06-25 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Cliff!?"

She was speechless for a moment, before grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him angrily.

"Holy shit where the hell have you BEEN!? I invaded Sanctuary looking for you!"
aerialassault: (uncool -- do not want)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2015-06-25 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sanctuary?"

He cast her a look of disbelief.

"Why the hell were you looking in Sanctuary?!"
righthandmage: (Don't crack on me)

[personal profile] righthandmage 2015-06-26 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Because Gigas was there, and I didn't have any other leads other than storm the gates of Gigas itself!"

Arm punch. "I don't like you THAT much."
aerialassault: (uncool -- not sure)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2015-06-27 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
The arm punch wasn't even enough to hurt, but the point was still made as plain as the rainbow of colors that stained the Calderan sand.

"Hey, it's not like I don't appreciate the effort-- but don't do something dumb like that! Gigas ain't worth fighting on your own."

He grabbed a handful of colors from gods-only-knew where at this point, a wicked grin crossing his face.

"Let's save the serious talk for another time. Today's for fun and only fun!"

He threw the colors. Have fun having the serious moment ruined.
righthandmage: Also your face is stupid (I dislike you for a number of reasons)

[personal profile] righthandmage 2015-06-28 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Personal drama leaves her wide open. Elka receives a face full of color.

"Maybe I shouldn't have looked quite so hard."
aerialassault: (dork -- playing around)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2015-06-29 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Cliff just sputtered in laughter.

"Aw, come on! You know you missed me!"
righthandmage: (Spellery)

[personal profile] righthandmage 2015-06-30 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he was right. Today was for fun. The rest of the encounter was even less dignified, and ended up with Cliff having color powder shoved into his pants to match the color powder dropped down his shirt. Elka got some in strange places as well.

But Cliff better not think he's heard the last of this.
aerialassault: (dork -- playing around)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2015-06-30 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Cliff was more than well aware that the conversation was far from over-- it was simply one of many that he was deferring for a different, later time after he got his affairs in place. After months of being held in a prison cell by hostile parties, the opportunity to let go and simply relax was a prize that he had been dreaming of.

Let the colors of the Day of Fire rain upon everything and let the people start anew. The time for serious talk would definitely be had. Later.
