The Day of Fire. [Calderan Summer Solstice OPEN log]
It's the morning of the 21st and it's clear even to the inexperienced Unionite, Refugee, or Citadel resident that the city has a different air to it. If it wasn't the atmosphere that got them, then the stalls lining the streets would. Many people are still working on getting set up for the night festival, but the stalls that are complete are lining many corners and they are filled to the brim with bright colors. From afar, the streets look like someone threw a rainbow of paint across the city.
They haven't seen anything yet.
It's not yet time for the festivities so any visitors are free to wander the streets. The natives seem to be delighted if amused at all the people interested in the holiday and are happy to sell anyone as much colored powder as the want. Sometime close to noon is when things change. The natives all kind of stop what their doing. The colored stalls start to close up and everyone looks tense.
A long, rattling trumpet sound rings through the streets and that is when all hell breaks loose.
It's every man and pokemon for themselves. Have fun everyone.

Already, half her face was purple and the other half was orange. All of her clothes and visible skin was a similar riot of color, and this didn't bother her at all. Laughing, she grabbed someone's (your) shirt and poured green powder down the back of it.

"C'mon-- it's rude to do sneak attacks like that!"
He wasn't even paying attention to exactly who his opponent was. With everone being covered in so many colors, it was hard to recognize anyone!

To prove her point, she blew a cloud of orange into Cliff's face. There was something familiar about him, though she couldn't tell what behind the colors.

[Sputtering now, he lifted an arm to cover his face and blindly threw a handful of purple at her.]
Now that was a low blow!
[Melee or not, this girl was tricky. The moves were familiar, but it had been so long that he couldn't tell anymore...]

"...Do I know you?"
no subject
"Maybe? Everyone whose grown up here has passed by everyone at some point." He shrugged, followed up with a grin.
"Who cares?"
To punctuate his question, he dumped a pile of orange on top of her head.

She did something very odd, next. A complicated gesture drew all the color out of the powder that was caked to her and into her right hand, leaving her looking almost clean again. She threw the last handful of hyper colorful powder at Cliff, who found himself in an explosion of rainbow dust.
no subject
Cliff didn't even have a chance to duck-- just cover his face with an arm while he charged through the cloud of dust to get clear. There were few people who could do exchanges like that, and even fewer who could do it with something as innocent as color.
Once clear, he cast a wild eyed look at the young woman.
"It can't be. There's no way it's that easy..."
no subject
She reached out and just tried to wipe his face clean. Personal space is for other people.
no subject
"Hah, knew it!" He grinned. "It is you, Elka!"
no subject
She was speechless for a moment, before grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him angrily.
"Holy shit where the hell have you BEEN!? I invaded Sanctuary looking for you!"
no subject
He cast her a look of disbelief.
"Why the hell were you looking in Sanctuary?!"
no subject
Arm punch. "I don't like you THAT much."
no subject
"Hey, it's not like I don't appreciate the effort-- but don't do something dumb like that! Gigas ain't worth fighting on your own."
He grabbed a handful of colors from gods-only-knew where at this point, a wicked grin crossing his face.
"Let's save the serious talk for another time. Today's for fun and only fun!"
He threw the colors. Have fun having the serious moment ruined.
no subject
"Maybe I shouldn't have looked quite so hard."
no subject
"Aw, come on! You know you missed me!"
no subject
But Cliff better not think he's heard the last of this.

Let the colors of the Day of Fire rain upon everything and let the people start anew. The time for serious talk would definitely be had. Later.
