[The video feed opens on Kanji's home, and the young craftsman looking rather out of sorts. Even the Pokémon on screen look a bit tense; he idly scratches a Pachirisu behind the ears, and sighs.

For a moment, he glances aside to a photo sitting on a desk, before he speaks again.]

I'm gonna cut straight to business, here. Been thinkin' about shit for the past month, really. And I wanna ask...

[He swallows.]

How d'you go about gettin' into the Rangers?

Ask a Ranger. If it's anything like getting into the Swords, if you weren't always going to join I imagine there's a probationary period.

Yeah, that makes sense. I ... hadn't always planned on it, but I've been thinkin' about things lately, and... I wanna do somethin' worthwhile, and I think I could do it.

Though, yeah. I've gotta talk to 'em first.

Everything's worthwhile, though I can understand wanting to help people. The Rangers and the Swords are some of the best people for that, too.

That's kinda what I'm thinkin'. Helpin' people. [He nods.] I don't think I'd get on with the Swords, but ... I grew up listenin' to stories 'bout the Rangers, y'know? So...

I grew up on stories of the Swords, so it was only natural I went there first. I'm interested in helping people in other ways, now.

Heh, that's cool. When you're sayin' 'other ways'...

I've always loved volunteering. I want to do more of that, and travel as well.

I had to do a fitness course, and demonstrate some basic abilities, myself. Basically prove I could do the job.

That's cool. What sorta 'basic abilities' are we talkin'?

Tracking and basic survival skills are also checked, but the fitness test comes first.

Huh. I'm cool with survival skills, been out explorin' loads, but trackin' ain't something I've done a lot of. I guess I oughta study up on that, then.

[Of course... this involves study... this is the worrying bit.]

Is the fitness bit tough? [asks the big strong fighting-type wall of muscle.]

Good. That'll likely cover it honestly. It's nothing hard. Just basic competence.

[The slender martial artist who's not enlightened at all looks at Kanji and shrugs.]

And that depends. It wasn't for me. And they didn't take it easier on me because I don't have powers.

That's fair enough. Gotta make sure that you're the right person for the job and all.

I'm lookin' into it. I've just been thinkin' recently - sure, I'm good at makin' shit, but ... I wanna do somethin' bigger. Something that'll actually help people.

I won't argue that they're worthwhile... but remember that what we do is dangerous -- for yourself and, if it comes to war, others too.

Make sure you think that's worthwhile.

Good. If it seems like a calling you want, then... the way I did it was ask. It helps to state your skills, so they know where to train you and how to make use of your abilities.
