If you ever go back into Wooly Swamp...
Log Deputy:
axiomaticgrue
Log Deputy Schedule: We'd like to request a 24-hour cycle; at least 1 tag every 24 hours (dependent on at least one player tag)
Participating Characters: Yuuna Sugasawa, Haruka Tenoh, Son Goku, Rei Ryugazaki, Merill, and Usagi Tsukino
Plot Description: A group goes out to explore the Northern Wetlands to see what they can find.
Warnings/Notes: Maybe language? Rated M for Mudkipz?
[The trip over the swamp hadn't been too bad, and given that there were enough large flyers among the party it'd really only been a matter of hours before they touched down at the edge of the marshlands. It was still late enough in the day that getting a good start wasn't entirely feasible, so a camp is set. The next morning comes quickly enough, and with boundless enthusiasm Yuuna helps get everyone ready for the trek up into the new area.
And with everything taken care of, she heads towards the edge of the wetlands, a staff in hand and galoshes on her feet positively vibrating with excitement. Her Pokemon seem restless too, excited to get going, but nervous about what they might find.]
Everybody set? Because we're burning daylight already.

Sure am! Though I think there's a hole in these boots...
[He's landed in a large pool of water. There is no doubt that there is water in his boot.]
no subject
[As a runner and hiker, he had heard some terrifying stories about the problems that can happen if a person's shoes became water logged. That was why he was wearing a pair of incredibly sturdy boots, and had a spare set in his pack in camp. He held a hand up to block the sun as he scanned around the area, curious about what all they might find in their expedition.]
I wonder if the teachers back on campus will accept a report about this in lieu of a make up exam?
[It was a rhetorical question-- he'd make up the exam regardless of what the teachers thought-- but he received an answer regardless.
That brat of Azumarill bopped him with the bubble at the end of his tail, earning a startled yelp from his trainer. Just rewards, for thinking about school on a decidedly non-academic trip.]

As opposed to her Jolteon, who had begun running a literal circle around a tree before realizing the party was leading him behind. In a hurry to catch up, he splashes towards Haruka; the drops miss her but nearly hit her Pidgeot, who squawks and then soars up higher to both get out of range and scout ahead. She's got her Rhyperior on standby in the Habitat. Having him out just makes a scene. ]
Are we looking for anything in particular?
[ Aside from her own private preoccupations, of course: solving Yuuna's frog problem, her eternal search for clues about the gods, and how Usagi Tsukino reacts under pressure. Not that she's keeping an eye on the girl. She'll save the world without her help.
But if they're together anyway, she might as well watch. ]
no subject
... but there's a small side glance at Haruka to remind her that complaining isn't really a good idea... ]
Fairy.
[ Usagi just glances upwards at her Clefairy who has decided to re-take her old spot next to Usagi's head. She's sitting on the top of the travelling backpack that her human is carrying but is avoiding walking on the squishy ground at all costs. ]
You're lucky I'm even letting you ride on my back. Do you even know how much you weigh, Pinky?
Clefairy.
[ Okay. She'll complain a little bit, but that's just because if she doesn't lovingly harass her favorite pokemon, then something is definitely wrong here. ]
no subject
For the time being, though, it's not an issue, as she's been riding atop the back of her Bouffalant for more or less the entire trip here. She's still keeping a sharp eye out for anything that might jump out and surprise them, but all in all she seems mostly cheerful about the whole expedition.]
I wonder what kind of Pokemon we'll find here. It's so exciting!
no subject
She spares Usagi and Pinky a bemused glance and notices how cool Haruka's trying to play it...and how Goku and Rei are just not capable of being cool no matter what. Azumarill gets a cheeky thumbs up from the Ranger as she hops up onto Kyo's back, settling in on top of the boney ridges. The big Tyranitar chuffs a breath, but seems satisfied.]
We're here to map what we can, scout out paths and gametrails, see if there's any signs of human habitation, and I suppose do a little research on the local Pokemon for the University. And if we happen across any Croagunks, well...I guess we'll see if they know anything about their southern neighbors.
[Merrill gets a more lingering look, as she finishes answering Haruka.]
I think we'll probably come across Water, Ground, and Grass types. Maybe poison too. That's my guess, anyway. I could be entirely wrong and it's full of fire types...but, you never know.
[She nudges the Tyranitar a bit, and gestures to the Hitmonchan and Magnezone that accompany her pretty much everywhere. The others, all larger or more Spiritomb-y, remain either in the Habitat for quick retrieval, or hidden out of sight in the back of her jacket. The big Rock type moves forward at an easy pace, the others taking up flank positions as they head into the wetlands.]
no subject
Well, if we do find more Croagunks, I hope they send something better after us this time. If we're going to get ambushed, I hope at least they make a better attempt.
[He's still smiling about it. Like it's no big deal. Like it would be fun to fight them.]
no subject
At least the distinction between solid ground and bottomless goop is a little more clear here, though the footing is treacherous and some areas are deceptively unstable. It would be best to proceed at a slow pace and perhaps avoid stepping into anything that isn't easily stepped out of, like, say, quicksand. Or the maw of a particularly large Victreebel.
Speaking of trails, though, there seems to be an area of the marsh that's been stamped down considerably by passing Pokemon, creating the vaguest of trails meandering northwest around the vast, greenish opaque pool that lies directly north before them. Unappealing brownish mud can be seen if they head the other way around.
There seems to be a small island in the center of the greenish swamp-lake with an elaborate mangrove drooping down to the water's edge. On occasion, a buzzing or otherwise unidentifiable reverberation will echo across the marshes, but it's otherwise very quiet - the sound seems to be coming from the island.]
no subject
He looked around, suddenly more alert, and tried to sort out the source of that sound.]
What's that? [He asked, quietly hoping that he hadn't just jinxed the whole expedition.]
no subject
Present concerns trump future plans, however, so when the buzzing starts she also looks up, unconsciously pushing her sleeve back to ready her Warp Band. Gold, oblivious to what might be making the humans uneasy, splashes around in the muck and sparks a bit. If he lifts his paws really high, he can walk faster! But then this gunk sprays everywhere! Why are they always tromping through swamps, human? ] Jol! Jolt--
Sssh. [ The Jolteon falls silent at Haruka's insistent hiss. She nods her head in the direction of the sound, sticking closer to the others, and her Pidgeot heads towards the island. Rushing Wind's got orders not to engage anything she encounters, just to get a look at what they're headed for from above and then report back. ]
no subject
Though, she's right. Yuuna whispers in Kyo's ear, giving the big guy a quick request to slow his step and listen. The prehistoric beast complies, and the two of them, along with her more alert Pokemon all start focusing on their sense of hearing. What an odd sound that is...
What could it be?
Normally? She'd probably joke, but caution is the order of the day here. So, she sends Howashi the Braviary along with Rushing Wind. He seems eager for action as any good patriot should be, and joins the Pidgeot without so much as a sound.]
We'll wait for a report before going ahead. Haruka's right, keep it down.

[Yes, Merrill, everyone noticed that. Not that it stops her from being excited and talking in a slightly too-loud whisper as Arishok the Bouffalant lumbers up and onto the island.]

no subject
Everything is going swimmingly right up until the island sneezes.
...
ohhhhh nooooooo
Well, the good news is that Bouffalant has a pretty slick ride and we may or may not be able to name this amazing discovery Arishok's Mobile Isle, ensuring Merrill and Arishok's entry into the history books. The bad news is that Arishok's Mobile Isle looks less than thrilled about being awake - looks like that strange buzzing was the sound of light snoring reverberating underwater.
Arishok's Mobile Isle uses Earthquake!
Or maybe it just took a step forward who really knows.]
no subject
This was bad.
This was very, very bad.]
...I think we made him angry, [He muttered, already reaching for his Warp Band. Fight or flight, they needed a strategy, and he was going to need more than just Harima's help.]
no subject
Merrill!
[She's already working on her next move, readying the Warp Band to call out her own landmass. Avalugg seems the right choice since it is also large, and by the looks of this thing it's probably rock or ground or...some type that's not terribly fond of ice...and she'd honestly just feel more comfortable with big beastie of her own. The swampy water splashes and chills immediately as the walking iceberg appears in a flash, but the order to attack doesn't come just yet.]
Merrill, if you're okay, can you talk to it?
[If the Dalish girl doesn't answer, though, then she has a standby command to start attacking with Blizzard. Hopefully a last resort, but it's all she's got at the moment. Till she comes up with a better plan anyway.]
no subject
Arishok! Let's get down!
[Giving the Bouffalant a pair of quick but light kicks to the side to spur it on, Merrill shouts a short command in Dalish and the well-trained mount vaults off the Torterra's back to join the others.]
I'll try.
[She nods to Yuuna quickly before looking back at the great creature.]
My, you're very... large, aren't you? Yes. Very large.
[As usual, the beginning of negotiations are little but nervous babbling.]
Would you mind if we looked around a bit? We didn't mean to wake you up, and we certainly don't want to disturb you any further.
no subject
[Oh boy he's getting a little concerned for Merrill, attempting to run as he fights to keep his ground. Goku nearly trips and falls flat on his face a few times as he tries to get to Merrill, but skids to a halt as soon as he can see that she's gotten out of the way and safe.]
[He's about to join in negotiations, but stays silent for the moment, standing a good ten feet or so behind where Merrill is. He's going to wait until the pokémon either speaks or acts.]
no subject
It doesn't seem to have heard Merrill. If it speaks anything coherent at all, Merrill may be able to work out that it's mumbling something about 'fat hooves'. Apparently it doesn't get many Pokemon Bouffalant's size stomping all over it. It sneezes again while stepping forward, sending a blast of water and leaves everywhere.
It doesn't particularly seem to be targeting them, but it doesn't particularly seem to be avoiding hurting them, either.
They can continue to try to communicate if they'd like, but clustering to the side and waiting for it to go away may also be a viable option here.]
no subject
I... think we should just let him go. Is everyone all right?
no subject
I'm alright, and agreed. Not really sure I'd want to fight a walking island.
[Mental note: Torterra are freaking cool.]
no subject
Gold, for his part, wonders whether Eeveelutions can get that big. A giant Martelé would be awe-inspiring!
Then he gets whacked in the face with a leaf and falls over into the swampwater, but Haruka's still walking so he jumps back onto all four paws and bounds after her. She's going to carve a trail past this thing no matter what. Her focus is 100% on moving forward...and any frogs they may encounter along the way. ]
no subject
Yeah, let's. [He tore his attention away from the isle, nodding at the rest of the group. As much as he wanted to follow, to see where it would go, he knew that they needed to keep their focus narrowed in on the current objective]
no subject
If they have no particular interest in maintaining relations with Arishok's Mobile Isle, they will also note that its departure has lowered the water level of the swamp muck considerably, and it's shallow enough to see bottom now.
...Is that some sort of under-muck passage on the other side?]
