[Behold the exhausted but freshly-scrubbed face of one Garrett Hawke, come to introduce himself to the network with a very important question (to him).]

Has anyone heard of a village named Rhododendron? No one at the Medical Center has heard of it, but they suggested I try asking on the network.

It's where I'm from, and I'd like to go back, but I'm not sure where it is from here. So any information at all would be great.

[He hesitates very briefly, then flashes a charming smile.]

[OOC: This guy's hometown is so far off the map no one will have heard of it, and it's also been completely destroyed, but he doesn't know that yet so he's still asking around. Feel free to yank his chain or crush his dreams or just be brutally honest, it's all good! o/]

I'd been told up until recently that no one lived outside Union, so I'll admit I'm still curious. It isn't just because of what happened to you.

And we had no idea there was such an enormous settlement out there. Out here. Wherever 'here' is.

That's why the rangers leave the city. So we can learn what's actually out there.

[And then something occurs to him...]

...Although if one of them had found my village before now, I probably would have heard about it, since I live there.

[Commence sinking feeling in stomach]

[...well, he sure wasn't very good at turning the topic away from Thing That Make Garrett Sad. But maybe he needed to talk about it, to work something out.]

You can ask them if any of them saw the storm, though. It didn't pass over here, so that should give you a place to start, at least.

That's...not a bad idea at all. [He flashes a brief but grateful smile] Thanks.

[He smiles back.]

I did say I'd help.

I just don't want you to go out of your way.

[A nice guy like you probably has a family to take care of, right?]

It can't be out of my way when I live nearby. And up until yesterday, I even worked here.

[Good idea.]

Wait, what? What happened?

I finished my training, so I left. I always planned to join the rangers as a field medic instead.

The Medical Center's too stifling, huh?

[He totally understands. He's only still here to make sure Sergeant has a good nap. Once the Houndour wakes up, they're outtie!!]

And I'd like to see what's out there, at least once.

[wow, that Houndour is a heavy sleeper.]

You've never been out of the city?

[Well, yeah! He's exhausted! They've both had a rough day.]

I've been outside the city gates a couple of times, but not far. I've been busy.

[He gestures with a hand to indicate the Medical Center. Becoming a medic is a lot of work.]

I guess learning how to be a medic takes a lot of time, huh?

[He's just guessing here, based on what he's seen of the super professional people floating around in this super professional building.]

I've spent years training. I wanted to learn as much as possible before leaving.

[He made sure he had plenty of practical experience with every type of medicine! Just in case.]

How many years?

Seven.

That's a lot--

[He's impressed for a second but then distracted by the Houndour in his lap suddenly stretching and yawning adorably, and then scrambling to sit up in Hawke's lap (and scratching the hell out of his legs).]

Hey! How are you feeling?

[Sergeant ignores his question for the moment in favor of smashing his back against Garrett's front for security and staring around suspiciously at everything. Including you, Anders.]

[He's a bit surprised when the Houndour wakes up, having almost forgotten about him for the moment. He's quiet at first, letting the poor puppy get his bearings. He can easily sense that unease.]

This really isn't the best place to wake up, is it?

[Sergeant stares at Anders for a few seconds before looking up at Garrett, craning his head around to make eye contact without moving his back from its secure position. Feeling better. Where's supper?

Garrett relaxes visibly and smiles at that. He reaches up to scratch behind the pup's ears.]

Is that offer of a meal still good?

[He has a hard time accepting handouts for himself, but he's pretty shameless when a handout will help one of his friends.]
