This is Banzu.

Got everything I need to start building the port and the ship now, and it's all been moved to the site. Everyone who's interested in helping, whether we talked about it yet or not, come on down. You'll be compensated for your work. Got some tents here for anyone who wants to stay and not hafta go back to Union to sleep, but you'll need to bring your own bedding, and if you wanna make sure you don't have to share a tent you can bring your own.

For anyone who doesn't know yet, the port site's near the west bank of the westernmost branch of the river where it connects to the ocean. Your best bet's probably to head to the lake, then follow the river. Once you get to the ocean you can't miss it.

Ain't got the model handy so I can't show you what it'll look like, but it's 60 feet long and powered by steam. If you've ever seen the power generators it's like that, just a lot smaller.

That sounds amazing. Where are you going to go with it? [ She's not quite sure how much help she'll be, but she'll definitely try to help. ]

For starters I'll use it to take people to the island, but I'll be letting people hire it to explore farther out to sea and along the coast, too.

That sounds useful. It'll help everyone learn about the world. How long until you think it's finished?

At least a month, probably more. There's a buncha people who were interested in helping build, so that might speed things up, but as far as I know this is the first time anyone's built something like this in centuries so I can't be sure nothing'll come up.

It's unbelievable that it's been that long since someone has decided to try a boat. You'll probably go down in history for this.

[It's a good thing that he wasn't drinking anything or there might've been a spittake there. There were a few reasons for him starting this project, but "fame" wasn't even remotely on the list. In fact if he'd made of list of reasons not to build a boat fame would've been on it.]

It... ain't like I invented the idea of a boat or anything. I'm just the first person in a while to build one. Prolly the only reason nobody's beat me to it's cuz Union ain't right next to water.

I suppose that is true, people have only started venturing further out of the Union. Still, this is a big development for the Union.

I guess, but long as people use it once it's finished I'll be happy.
