Dancing Through Life [OPEN]

Who: Feliks, and whoever shows up. Mingle log, everyone's invited!
Where: The old Łukasiewicz manor
When: In the evening, on the day after spring's sudden onset.
Warning: Alcohol will be available? Otherwise, depends on the players--stick a warning in the subject line if anything gets out of hand.

The rumors and casual invitations started a long while ago, in the wake of Team Evolution's departure, but it took a while to nail down a date, and to shine up the rarely used public areas on the lower floor of the Łukasiewicz family estate, two floors on top of one of the towers towards the outskirts of the residential district. Paper invitations came several days ago, to damn near everyone with an address (though of course, the nobles' are on finer paper, hand-written by Feliks's grandparents and properly sealed.) Though everyone is invited, the general public has also been reminded to dress well and behave themselves presentably--it isn't every day you're invited into a noble house, is it?

Even for the nobles, honestly, it's rare to see this one. The heads of the family are aged, and while they often appear and are pleasant enough at everyone else's events, they have little energy for arranging their own in general.

They seem to have gone all out on this one, though, perhaps because the first ball of the spring demands it and perhaps because they're celebrating so many things at once. First there was Feliks's performance in the tournament, then his evolution, and of course they're still looking to find him a nice match. And spring, quite suddenly, is in the air, the weather pleasantly warm and the balcony gardens overflowing with blossoming flowers--a small legion of gardeners has been brought in to keep the plants under control, actually, given their overabundance lately.

The food and drinks are fantastic, varied, and plentiful, laid out at strategic points around the wide, gleaming dance floor. The best musicians from all over the city have been hired to encourage people to make use of it, and to keep the atmosphere nice and light.

So come on in--talk, dance, eat all the little berry pastry things, and welcome the spring!

[OOC: Will put up a couple of threads for different areas of the party to keep it organized, feel free to mingle and tag around with everyone!]

Indeed. Or for making business arrangements, in case someone is already married, or for just plain showing off. But hey, sometimes these get-togethers do produce worthwhile results -- such as our conversation here.

It's nice to break the trend, though. Leave it to people like us, still in the prime of our lives, to amend tradition a little. In its own way, it's another form of progress.

Progress that would be shut down should our elders hear of it.

[ Even if it was meant as another joke, it's one spoken with all seriousness. Her parents might take their conversation as an opportunity to egg him on into proposing to her or a step further by approaching his family.

They may be adults, but the adults in their lives often had the final say. ]

Fortunately, my parents are out.

Yours?

[A chuckle. He wasn't concerned about that. He's confident in his ability to talk his way out of a questionable situation if confronted.]

My parents are middle-class. They have neither reason nor invitation to attend parties like this, and they've turned down my invites in the past. Tonight, you and I both are free from any kind of familial pressures -- unless you have extended family at this party?

It is possible I do.

[ Glancing around with a cautious look in her eyes. ] Well, if they are here, I'll just ignore them. I'm very busy looking at possible 'suitors' and all, you know.

From the sound of it, they're hell-bent on pairing you up with somebody. It's not often that I hear about people *that* dedicated to it.

You think they would stop given that I am cursed to be chosen over other suitors, but my family is set in their ways. I don't let it bother me any.

[It was easy for Jayce to see why. Not only was Cynthia beautiful, she was also intelligent and driven.]

As they say, we all have our own unique burdens to carry, ones we're better suited to carry than anyone else. It's better to simply play the hand that life has dealt us.

I'll stick to folding until I've been dealt the cards that will guarantee my happiness as well as my success.

[ Speaking of driven. ] I intend to leave the Union for a little while to clear my head. There are many Pokemon out there I wish to get to know better.

The ones that don't stray near here all that often.

So long as you don't get up from the table and walk away, it's workable.

Ah, an expedition of sorts? That should be interesting. Are you looking for someone to accompany you, or will this be a solo journey?

That I haven't decided on yet.

I find it difficult to locate those who are adventurous and share interests in my goals. I could put together an expedition with some of the students through the resources of my family, but I rather not have them attached to that sort of thing.

Well, my forte tends to lie more with the mechanical than with the natural, but at the same time, I consider myself a student of all sciences. We'll need to know how nature works just as well as we do the laws of physics if we're to pave the way to a brighter future.

That is correct.

[ At least she's not so caught up in the past that she can't admit advancing their future with technology is a great idea. ]

Is that how you spend your time?

[personal profile] stop_cannontime 2014-04-27 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm officially an inventor. Thus, that's what I get paid to do. But as I said, I consider myself a student of all sciences, and catch up on those not related to chemistry or physics in my spare time. In fact, sometimes I can write it off as field work -- because that's what it ultimately ends up being.
