Greetings, everyone. I'm Jade Curtiss, Ranger, part of the Survey Corps. As I'm sure we've all heard, the Union is in need of an iron mine. That is why the Rangers are putting together an expedition to the Caverns in search of one, to be led by me.

[He's less than enthused at the prospect of leading so many people, but it doesn't show as he continues to elaborate on the details of the expedition, brisk and informative:]

Unfortunately, there's not much information about the Caverns, or the Pokemon in them. This is why we'll need people with the ability to locate iron deposits, people able to communicate with Pokemon, and people who are able to fight, although we'll do our utmost to avoid battles in the interest of saving time.

[Did he just sound faintly sarcastic then? Who knows.]

The expedition will likely last for two days, perhaps more. It'll take at least half a day to reach the Caverns, and possibly much longer before we locate a mine - if we can. Therefore, I'd suggest that everyone pack wisely. If you're feeling lost, the staff at the Outpost should be of assistance. Funding will be provided upon request.

If you're interested in participating, or would like to field any inquiries, please respond now. If all goes well, we'll be departing from the city gates tomorrow at six in the morning.

S-survey Corps... [the admiration in Eren's voice is overwhelming.]

So, anyone who can help, they can sign up?! Even if we're not part of the Rangers yet? I mean, I'm helpful, I can talk to Pokémon! And I have a friend who's a... pretty huge nerd. He'd be able to tell you all about the rocks in that cave, for sure.

[The admiration does not bode well... Jade rubs at his temples, taking a moment to decide how best to respond, especially when the yet implies they're prospective Rangers.]

[When he does respond, his voice betrays no hint of his exasperation.]

First of all, do the two of you have any experience with being out of the Union? Also, is your friend aware that you're volunteering him for this task?

[which is good. Eren doesn't want to be dissuaded from his dream, man]

I'm in the Guard and I'm an Enlightened Shifter, sir, so I have a... little experience outside the walls! ... And uh... well... not yet? I wanna see if it's ok, first.

[A Shifter? He hasn't had very many experiences with that type yet, which means it catches his interest immediately, despite Eren's apparent inexperience.]

What type of Shifter? And I think it's best if your friend contacts me himself.

Skarmory. [a pause, then;] Uh... a steel and flying type bird. [Eren frowns. Armin will never ask on his own! But...] Well, if you say so.

Flying? Not very ideal for caverns, is it?

[Steel would be useful, but he'll keep that to himself. And he'll drop the issue of his mysterious friend for now.]

I... suppose not. But I'd really appreciate the opportunity to show the Rangers and the Survey Corps what I can do, sir!

[Well, if he's that eager to impress, then he should be able to follow orders.]

Oh, so you're interested in the Rangers, then? [He's amused, but it's not really apparent just from his voice, although he does have his ~~cheshire cat~~ meowth smile on.]

Is that your reason for joining in? To show off to the Rangers?

[He's a very good little soldier]

I am!! Very much so. I... well... [he sounds a little put out] If you put it like that... but I do want to prove I can be a useful member of the team!

Some would consider that a selfish reason, you know.

My reasons for wanting to join the Rangers aren't selfish, sir. [now he's getting a little touchy]

And what might those reasons be?

I wish to further the progress of humanity, sir. Find new resources, claim new territory, and eradi.... drive out aggressive Pokémon.

[All very good and noble goals, and more in line with what he had thought the boy would be aiming towards, but that last point gives him pause.]

[More sharply:] Eradicate?

... My... my mother was killed and my home destroyed by a rampaging wild pokémon. I... [with SHOUNEN PASSION;] I won't let it happen to anyone else!!

[Such passion! Such fervour!!! He is overcome.]

[It's an inappropriate reaction to death, though, so he keeps the sarcasm to himself, once again business-like when he responds, if more sombre than before.]

I see. I'm sorry for your loss. That's quite an admirable goal, although it's a rather hefty responsibility to be taking on.
