Greetings, everyone. I'm Jade Curtiss, Ranger, part of the Survey Corps. As I'm sure we've all heard, the Union is in need of an iron mine. That is why the Rangers are putting together an expedition to the Caverns in search of one, to be led by me.

[He's less than enthused at the prospect of leading so many people, but it doesn't show as he continues to elaborate on the details of the expedition, brisk and informative:]

Unfortunately, there's not much information about the Caverns, or the Pokemon in them. This is why we'll need people with the ability to locate iron deposits, people able to communicate with Pokemon, and people who are able to fight, although we'll do our utmost to avoid battles in the interest of saving time.

[Did he just sound faintly sarcastic then? Who knows.]

The expedition will likely last for two days, perhaps more. It'll take at least half a day to reach the Caverns, and possibly much longer before we locate a mine - if we can. Therefore, I'd suggest that everyone pack wisely. If you're feeling lost, the staff at the Outpost should be of assistance. Funding will be provided upon request.

If you're interested in participating, or would like to field any inquiries, please respond now. If all goes well, we'll be departing from the city gates tomorrow at six in the morning.

That's quite an admirable way of thinking. [He always enjoys seeing solutions other than brute force, despite his...less than stellar history with interacting with Pokemon.]

[He doesn't have the power to communicate well with Pokemon himself, so the information she's giving him is quite interesting.]

And what sort of deals are these Pokemon usually interested in?

[Not to mention the paperwork he'd have to deal with. Oh, and he should probably also think about tragic loss of valuable human life, etc etc.]

So the gates at [A momentary pause.] six [That number is spoken with barely contained "Ugh." because he's not a morning person.] tomorrow, right? I'll be there.

It's winter, so anything we can offer in food or manual labor. Not everyone appreciates being given food, but if you offer to help reinforce their homes for structure or warmth generally is appreciated, at least to show respect.

Like, they wouldn't take a blanket, but if we helped them access green branches for a nest? They'd be okay with that. Something they could do themselves, but would rather push off onto someone else. It's a... not pride exactly, but status.

[The admiration does not bode well... Jade rubs at his temples, taking a moment to decide how best to respond, especially when the yet implies they're prospective Rangers.]

[When he does respond, his voice betrays no hint of his exasperation.]

First of all, do the two of you have any experience with being out of the Union? Also, is your friend aware that you're volunteering him for this task?

[Ramirez, now that's a familiar name. But there's no reason to treat him differently from anyone else, except to note down that he should have at least a passing familiarity with how Rangers operate.]

Your assistance will be appreciated. Would you mind telling me where you had investigated so far?

[Although he's focusing on the Caverns currently, it helps to have an idea of what people have done so far.]

[And his voice takes on a more playful tone.] And I hope you're aware that, should you fail in any way, there will have to be consequences.

I checked out both the Scorched Forest and the Lake Shrine. I wasn't able to get very far in the Scorched Forest. I saw mothing that would help us as far as I could tell.

[Thoughtfully:] Would cave-dwelling Pokemon wish to access trees? ...Well, in any case, it's something to keep in mind. I'll bring along some food as well, just to be safe.

Is there anything else they'd appreciate? Trinkets, perhaps?

[He knows his Duskull is quite fond of the slip of paper it had "acquired" from a shrine, but wild Pokemon may be different.]

[He takes note of that all but spoken "ugh", and is deliberately bright and cheery in his reply:] Six in the morning, yes, and it looks to be quite a chilly day as well. But, it's best to begin our travel early; we don't want to be caught out in the open at night.

[He hasn't been to either of those places in some time, so he'll continue to question Chris, even though the topic of conversation is straying away from the Caverns.]

What about the Pokemon there? Have you encountered anything unusual?

Trinkets and humanclothing are symbols for... alphas. It's not useful, but it's something only they have. Which makes it valuable to them. It's also a sign of respect. So we shouldn't bring things expressly for this, that's... manipulative, but if we wear small things we wouldn't mind giving up that's okay.

[He's learning a surprisingly large amount from this.]

I see. Thank you for the information, you've been of great assistance.

[Already, he's mentally going through what sort of possessions he'd have that would interest a Pokemon.]

I can't be sure the locals, but if they're like the underground it should be okay.

It's been a long time since I've heard your voice.

Might I tag along? I may not have knowledge of mining, however, I am actively working on a catalog of the various Pokémon in this area. It may not be much, but I can help illuminate the work area, as well as take sketches for future reference, if nothing else.

Ah, Dr Flemming. [Now that's a voice he hadn't expected to hear.] I trust you've been well?

[Except no, the Engineers may be affected by the shortage more than the rest of them.]

[It's strange, hearing the voice of someone who left the organization, but he doesn't take it personally. It's been a long time.]

Well enough, considering.

I have not been able to get out to the Old City in a couple of years so I wasn't aware how bad the situation was.
