A friendly battle. (spectators welcome)

[ Ib and Mary are having a little practice battle now that they have a little more verity in their bonds. If anyone wants to watch, give advice, take sides or just hassle 9-year olds go ahead. ]

The terms: each is allowed three Pokemon around level 10. The matches will be 1 v. 1 and go until forfeit. No knockouts (those aren't friendly.)

At an open space in town, Ib stands on one side with a Spinarak on her back, a Budew in her arms and a Girafarig standing next to her. There's also a shiny Bellsprout by her feet but she only recently bonded with Goldie. It's not ready for a battle like this but Ib thought it might benefit from watching.

"Ready, Mary?"

[ This type match up doesn't look good for Ib's side but the impressive thing about Mitchel von Harrison II is he's faster than the other Spinaraks. Maybe not faster than a Spearow but it's all she could think to do. ]

Keep moving. [ And he tries to dodge the peak but not quite fast enough, he doesn't get away completely unscathed.

Ib makes a worried frown until she sees that he's recovered. ]

Use your Scary Face.

[ The Spinarak raises its abdomen and looks as frighteningly as possible in the Spearow's direction. ]

[The Spearow squawks in surprise, taking some steps back away from the Spinarak when it sees its Scary Face. Mary is just as surprised at first, but then she starts giggling a little.]

So that's Mitchel's "scary face", huh? [It's creepy, but it's also kind of cute...or maybe that's just what Mary thinks, given her odd definitions of cute.] Okay, then we'll use leer right back at Mitchel!

[So now the Spearow attempts to Leer and make the most intimidating expression it can muster right back at the Spinarak as payback for that Scary Face it used to to try to psych us out.]

[ Mitchel shudders at the leer. That succeeded in ending his Scary Face. ]

That's okay. [ Ib says the first encouraging thing she could think of, trying to appear calm for all their sakes.

At least they have one more trick to try. ] Now, String Shot.

[ The Spinarak reals back and shoots a sticky string from his mouth at the Spearow. ]

[That stuff doesn't look pleasant, and as the sticky string starts to attach itself to the Spearow, it looks none too happy having this sticky stuff anywhere near its wings or beak--it would certainly make it hard to move if they got completely tied up by it.]

Oh, not fair! [Mary's pouting now as she seems to realize that she should probably do something soon before her friend won't be able to move from that stuff sticking and weighing it down.] Try to get that stuff off of you so that you can use Peck on Mitchel again!

[Well...the Spearow is trying, as it tries to shake some of this stuff off or poke at it with its beak to cut the string off of it, but its movements are still slowed down, not to mention that having to use time to try to get most of this stuff off might give Mitchel and Ib the opening they need to attack.]

It is fair... [ And now they have finally slowed the Spearow down enough to attempt an attack. This was the plan all along. ]

Good work. Next, Constrict. [ Technically they could have tried Poison Sting while Spearow would be likely unable to dodge. It would be a better move but Ib is hesitant to attempt poisoning anyone. ]

[ After getting his order, the Spinarak then jumps at the Spearow in an attempt to squeeze it tight with his legs. ]

[It's okay Ib, we know its a fair move to make, but Mary...well. You know how she is.

The Spinarak is able to get its legs around the Spearow to try to squeeze it tight, which gets a gasp from Mary.]

Quick, try to shake it off or peck it with your beak!

[It can't really shake the Spearow off, thanks to its hold and the String Shot, so the Spearow is now trying to see if it can turn its head and peck at it with its beak from the position its being held in.]

[ If he holds tight enough at the right angle, he should be able to avoid the Spearow's beak. ]

Hold on tight.

[ Ib tightens her arms around Boo as she says that. Boo just seems concerned.

Come on, Mitchel, you can do it. For now the Spinarak holds on as closely to the Spearow as it can. ]

[Mary tightens her own arms around Oddy as she watches the Spearow try to peck at Mitchel, but to no avail. She tries to hold out for as long as possible, not wanting to give up, but it soon becomes apparent to her that the longer this goes on, the likelier it is that her friend will faint soon, so something needs to be done, now or never...]

...O-okay, let's try one last attack! Use Fury Attack! [It's the same as the Peck from before, but now it seems to be more rapid with attempts at multiple pecks and jabs in a row--if this doesn't work and Mitchel is able to hold out, then Mary's side will have no choice but to give up and forfeit this round.]
