[The Seedot that comes on is quivering in a combination of strain and excitement as the camera is hurriedly focused on it. A moment after the image stops shaking, it nods, relaxes, and starts glowing. Motes of light swirl around it as its glowing body nearly doubles in size and reforms into a humanoid shape before the light blasts away to reveal a newly-evolved male Nuzleaf, who flexes and lets out a cry of "Nuzleaf!"

But that isn't all. After a pause where Nuzleaf nods, the image shakes as Apollo's hand comes into view and sets down a Leaf Stone. The stone begins to glow as Nuzleaf picks it up, then Nuzleaf himself starts to glow. The glow of the stone flows into Nuzleaf and his body becomes a foot taller as it reforms, then the light kicks up dust as it blasts away once more to reveal a Shiftry, who gives a rather evil-looking grin as the depleted Leaf Stone cracks and becomes shiny dust that blows away in the breeze.

Apollo's voice comes in from off-screen.]

He wanted everyone to see both of his evolutions. He's a Shiftry now.

[Shiftry makes some fighting poses that somehow, despite being fairly conventional, have a vaguely ominous air about them.]

He wants to know what everyone thinks about his evolutions and his new body.

H-he's quite something. [A very scary looking something. Garry might have very obviously preferred its much cuter first form.] But he hardly got to know his second form. He's alright with that just for the sake of a show?

[And now Garry can see the 13-year-old who was filming that and sounded like someone older.]

Grandpa's friends with another Shiftry. That Shiftry and this Shiftry haven't been getting along as well as I'd like. The other Shiftry thinks that this Shiftry is too impulsive. I think the quick evolution has something to do with the conversations that the two of them have been having, but neither of them have told me everything that's been going on.

Hm. Maybe he wants to seem more mature by evolving as fast as he can? [Garry isn't sure he agrees with it, but it already happened so it's not like there's much that can be done about it.]

I don't think it works that way.

[He glances off to the side for a moment.]

He's not telling me anything, but he's feeling pretty proud and smug right now.

Well.... as long as he's happy, that's what matters, right? [Garry wasn't sure he would evolve his pokemon that fast if he had the chance, but ultimately it is up to the pokemon themselves what they want to do.]

[He smiles and nods slightly.]

That's right.

Did you two have to plan a lot to get to this point? [Training enough to evolve and then having a stone handy doesn't seem like a simple coincidence.]

No. Grandpa met the Shiftry who he's friends with when he was a Seedot, so he could tell me what to expect. The main differences are that I met this Shiftry after he hatched from an egg and that he could evolve into a Shiftry a lot sooner because I had a Leaf Stone already. He was eager to get out into the world soon after he hatched, so it didn't take as long as it could have, either.

He sounds like a pretty enthusiastic pokemon! I'm sure he'll make a great partner.

He has been so far. I'm sure nothing will change that.

[yeah that ominous air doesn't phase her, but shiftry looks pretty cool to her.]

[Shiftry blinks ominously before he flexes ominously. How either of those can be in any way ominous is a mystery for the ages.]

He says thanks and agrees that he's pretty strong now.

[Nah, still pretty cool to her. You keep working on that ominously thing, buddy.]

I'm sure he is much stronger now. Is he alright with the rush from his previous form?

[Shiftry looks ominously smug and nods ominously. Somehow.]

Seedot evolve fairly early and I had a Leaf Stone with me, so he could evolve into a Shiftry a lot sooner than the Shiftry Grandpa's friends with could. It'll be interesting to see if the two of them learn different moves as they get stronger.
