Boatbuilding Materials Gathering 1
Log Deputy: Tonake (
at_too_low)
Participating Characters: Banzu, Sync, Blue, Kanji, Ezreal, Red
Plot Description: Banzu needs iron for his boat and has hired a few people to help him get it from the Iron Mines. What could possibly go wrong?
Warnings/Notes: Don't worry about tagging order too much.
[They had used the connection from the Old City to reach the Iron Mines, and now that they'd arrived Banzu began to lead them deeper in. His Klink and Carbink floated alongside him.]
Prolly be fastest if we find a good-sized chunk of ore that hasn't been mined yet and take that. Hunting for small chunks here and there'll take forever.

Not so loud, please. We don't want every Pokémon in this damn mine on top of us, Stentando.
[Whether he listened to Sync or not, he is now picking up rocks with his trunk to examine them.]
Anyway, if it's a large chunk, we might have to cut it down. The best I've got for that is Ember and Fire Spin. That Phanpy can probably haul a good chunk, but I don't think it'll be able to move the size you're wanting.

[And with the discussion on how to move the iron the topic, the girl with a magnemite and houndoom decides speak up, her two pokémon helping to give light to the group. The houdoom keeps close to her side, while the magnemite floats above them all, allowing for room and a better spread of some light from its body.]
At least, maybe. It couldn't hurt to let them try on what we find. It's picked up metals before, but the size and the journey back could be an issue...

[The mines are a place Red hasn't gotten to poke around much yet. Hence why he brought Abby to help light the way and Zarya as she was his strongest, and even better that both had freshly evolved. They were sticking quite close to Red though as they proceeded.]
Far far is too far though?

This is the stuff, right? I mean, you know better, but...

It's iron ore, alright. A good amount in one place, too.
[He presses buttons on his Warp Band and transports in some tools and some kind of cobbled-together sled, presumably for moving the ore. He hefts a pickaxe.]
Let's see if we can get enough here.
[With that, he starts mining, the sound of the pickaxe striking ore echoing in the confined space of the tunnel.]
no subject
You two - [referring to her pokémon] - keep an eye on things, okay?
[Her houndoom huffs in understanding, and leaving her pokémon to keep watch around the rest of the area Blue goes to the materials brought to pick up a pickaxe herself. She watches how Banzu moves at work, then tries to help out to get ore.]

Blue stops what she's doing, picking herself up and going over to her pokémon and kneeling beside her, putting a hand on her back. Dahlia is still focused forward, wanting to go bolting for answers and to warn off any possible predators, though was warned otherwise (and particularly the dangers of barking in caverns).]
Dahlia...? [She speaks quietly, then decides to listen out for anything as well. Was her pokémon mistaken, or should she think about bringing in some added help...?
Let's let others tag]no subject
Okay. Let's not rouse everyone if there's no need.
[With Red's guidance, though very vague, Abby seems reassured enough and joins Zarya and Dahlia at the line to look for any threats that might pop up.]
Good ears. [He shoots at Blue before turning his attention in the same direction as the Pokémon.]

Certain he heard something, he gingerly taps the Vulpix and when she turns to look at the Phanpy, he points with his trunk. Her ears twitch a few times and she nods, waving him off with a paw, though she turns around to sit and stare in the direction of the sound now. The Phanpy meanwhile trots off in the direction of the sound, curious what it could be. It could be a threat after all and someone needs to be ready to warn the group.]

Shit. Facet, defenses.
[Banzu's Carbink floats into the middle of the tunnel. Its eyes glow blue and a transparent blue barrier forms across the tunnel, then its eyes glow yellow and a wall of transparent yellow hexagons forms just in front of the blue barrier. Reflect and Light Screen are now in effect.
Banzu, meanwhile, takes his black shotgun from his back and aims it down the tunnel, thumbing off the safety. He wasn't too worried; as far as he'd heard the miners hadn't had any major problems with the local Pokémon, but it paid to be cautious. That sound was awfully loud...]

But then the rumbling approached, the vibrations tingling against her feet. Yeah, time to follow Banzu - and get prepared. Blue activates her warp band and brings her wartortle onto the scene, the pokémon appearing before her.]
Indigo, with Dahlia. Bolts, you know what to do if it's steel. Get ready...!
[Her houndoom and magnemite wouldn't be the greatest against the ground types and Blue knew it, only there to help with the job. Whether Bolts would be called away (a heavy ground weakness was not good) would be decided in the new few minutes - the sound likely wasn't zubats, but there were word of the rare steel-types being found in the caves. And if their already lucky day would increase to seeing such a sight, the pokémon would be able to provide some assistance in restricting some movement in a battle, hopefully.
But if not, that was why the wartortle was now here. Now was the time to wait and see, and bet on the carbink's defences giving everybody an advantage.]
no subject
[The junior members of Kanji's team, true: but the Misdreavus and Cubone step up, ready and raring to go.]
You, up front, get ready to confuse anythin' that comes onto the scene. You, back here with the rest of us, on defence. And me?
[His sword's likely going to be useless, he thinks, electric and all - but he readies the pickaxe, easily and naturally converting it from a mining tool into a weapon of war in his hands. Glancing over his shoulder-]
...Uh, sorry, man. Hope ya don't mind me using it for this.
Sorry for the wait, had family complications OTL
A wild Steelix appeared!
And to make it worse, it seems really angry. It was probably disturbed by the sound of mining, and anyone can guess how well Pokemon in the Mines take to human activity now (no thanks to Team Evolution).
Having appeared almost next to Banzu's Facet, it lashes out angrily with extreme speed at it, fire dancing across its fangs.
Steelix used Fire Fang!
... Which is almost completely negated by Reflect and Carbink's resistance. Steelix pulls back in confusion-- giving everyone several seconds to try attacks of their own.]
no subject
But now is no time to be impressed when their lives were in danger. With the pokémon stunned, Blue gets her own into action.]
Indigo, Dahlia, bubble and ember!
[The pokémon jump into the fight, the houndoom more so. Embers erupt from her mouth and towards the body of the steelix, whilst the wartortle attacks from the other side with bubbles more strong than they might seem, and with the chance of lowering speed.
And, since she has magnemite-]
Bolts, supersonic!
[The magnemite comes a little down from where it is, aiming its sound waves right at the pokémon's large head.]
no subject
Like Banzu's Klink, Spur-Mesh! Wait, no, Spur-Mesh's only ranged move is Electric-type and all of its other moves are both ineffective and would require it to make contact with the Steelix. Well surely Banzu has something up his sleeve, right?
Banzu aims his shotgun at the Steelix and slamfires all five rounds at it, the slugs glinting as they fly through the air from the gun applying the Steel-type to them. It had seemed a good idea at the time - build a gun that adds the Steel-type to the ammunition to increase penetrating power - but against another Steel-type it's become a liability. It turns out that Steelix is the exact Pokémon that brings out Banzu's weaknesses, leaving him and his team utterly useless in this fight beyond boosting defenses and being a minor annoyance to their foe.]

[Okay, it's physical, and that thing looks tough, but it also looks metallic... he still doesn't get how hitting something with a bone counts as ground damage but he'll take it.
Metallic, though, is something that Kanji can deal with himself. He charges forward, wielding the pick like a battleaxe - and like he knows how to use one, at that, aiming for the points between the boulders in the Steelix's body.
After all: damn thing's just another sort of rock.]
no subject
To make the matters worse for the Steelix (and possibly others as well), Bolts and Whisper's confusion attacks hit just as Steelix roars out again and prepares for another attack. It raises its tail and slams it down wildly, sending rock and rumble flying at the party.
Steelix used Rock Tomb! Thanks to confusion, though, it will only really affect Kanji, rocks falling all around him and obstructing his path - some might hit him too, if he doesn't dodge fast enough.
Unfortunately for Steelix, though, confusion makes aiming and coordination very hard - so, carried by its own move's momentum, it ends up slapping itself in the face with its own tail. Ow. It's thrown back on the tunnel floor, still trying to get up and continue fighting.
Unfortunately for everyone else, the rumbling heralding the arrival of another Steelix can be heard again. Looks like the commotion got more attention than expected.]
So so so sorry everyone I didn't track this log
[A Charmeleon jumps out at the new Steelix, launching a flame attack right at it]

[ Gosh dang hopefully the boy will be okay, but battle will wait for nobody, will it. Blue is already bringing up her warp band to summon in another member to the battle, throwing out instructions at the same time- ]
Bolts, Indigo, double team it with a supersonic and water gun to the face if it gets back up! Dahlia, join the Charmeleon!
[ It's cruel, but with the pain it's already in and the headache it's already suffering, Blue is hoping on the slim chance that the combined shots of a blast of water and an extra added dosage of headache may black it out. One can dream. Meanwhile, joining the field comes Helio, Blue's trusted nidorino. ]
Helio, focus and get ready to kick! We're going to need you!
[ Following the command, the nidorino discard his confusion and focuses his energy, pumping himself up for what's to come. ]

[The falling rocks are enough to make Kanji stumble, flail, one hitting him in the side and leg - it's an attack he can shrug off to an extent with his typing what it is, but the pain in his side's still real enough, and it's slowing him down.
He grits his teeth, goes for his warp band, calling for his own Houndour-]
Stay back 'n Ember it, okay?
[-before he tries to get out of the rockpile and back into action.]

Meanwhile, the second Steelix surfaces from the same tunnel the first one did--just to get a faceful of Charmeleon's Ember. It roars and aims to bite at the Charmeleon - but then notices its fallen comrade, and rushes over to shield it instead. It towers over the team, snapping its jaws angrily - it looks furious, but perhaps it might be able to reason with it? Explain that the group meant no harm and they had to defend themselves against the first Steelix?]
no subject
I'm gonna try something.
[Walking out a few paces from the group, he looks up at the Steelix and points at the one it's shielding and...pauses. Looking over his shoulder, he shrugs and motions Abby over. The second Charmeleon comes and stares up at the towering steel type silently.]
Can you help me explain? I'm not so sure I get things across. Anyway, What happened is we're here to mine that iron back there. [He points for emphasis, and Abby is working on explaining this, and goes on to explain that the other Steelix came up and they needed to defend themselves so they wouldn't cause an accidental cave-in and have the humans hurt. Which Red is also getting too, just a bit a slower.]
Right, so we were mining the iron, and then that Steelix came up, and started to attack us so we needed to defend ourselves from it, and now you've shown up. We just want that iron over there. Are you really explaining this with me?
[The Charmeleon nods and huffs. He's already done Red.]
no subject
Speaking lowly while ever is distracted, he summons his Fletchinder, Scherzo, and sends it and his Vulpix, Accesa to circle far around the Steelix while all the action and later Red speaking has their attention, having them ready to use Ember and Fire Spin to pin them down, and all it will take for him is a wrong move. Sending his Phanpy over to the rockpile surrounding Kanji, it starts moving the boulders, smashing a few of the larger ones with a Tackle when needed to crack them some so he can move them with his trunk.]
no subject
It growls that the humans deserved getting attacked - everybody in the mines remembers what happened the last time humans were here, and how was anybody to know they didn't come back to torture everything again?! Any of you would attack first and think later, too.
But after that initial surge of anger it seems to calm down somewhat. Looking at the group with hostility-- well, they do seem to be only prepared to mine iron. Though it mostly only believes the group because it was Abby doing the speaking-- the Steelix is much more predisposed to listen to its fellow (well. Technically fellow.) Pokemon than some humans.
... After thinking a little, it snorts with a sense of superiority. A cave-in would serve you all right, you can't even get out of something like that on your own. Weaklings.
The Steelix also seems to have reached some inner conclusion, and turns directly to Abby again. It demands that they let the injured Steelix go without trying anything funny - meanwhile, it itself will stay here to make sure they're only here to mine.]
no subject
[ Said before the conclusion met
i walked downstairs to get a cup of tea okay. Blue was't going to have them attack pokémon that wasn't getting up, nor a pokémon that was clearly protecting another - not unless it went for the attack again. The pokémon back to her side and the magnemite floating up in the air, she listened to Red speak as she had knelled down to be closer to her team, them all watching the scene as it goes with Abby relaying Red's message.Blue doesn't know what's being said, but she's getting a feel for the conversation - or at least, the Steelix's possible personality by the snorts. She quickly whispers something to her nidorino, Helio, who after a moment goes up to Abby's side calmly, bowing his head respectfully before speaking-
If you and your friend can accept her lowly apologies, the human I'm present with would like to give medicine to ease part of your friend's pains that were inflicted under her command. She will show first that she means no harm by using the medicine on another if you are suspicious of the offerings of a human.]

Thanks, dude...
[That's better. He's got room to move, now, and turns his pick to the remaining rocks to get the heck out of that tight spot. As he does so, though, he warily eyes the little discussion. That thing's big, and all. It might as well just finish the job.]
no subject
Facet listens to the conversation but keeps Light Screen and Reflect up in case things don't work out.]
no subject
Don't mention it.
[He bending to grab his pick, he waits a moment as the discussion wraps up.]
no subject
It takes Red a few seconds to process it, because it can have a few different meanings. About to say something, Abby tugs again, and points at Blue, making a motion of taking a potion and becoming healed again.]
Okay...That one's going to watch us mine, and Blue is...going to cure it's sore throat? [The Charmeleon grunts, stomping a foot.] Okay no. I know what you meant. I think we can extend a little trust if it means we get to take the iron, right? Blue's going to give it a potion, if she's allowed, and we are going to be watched while we mine.
[Abby nods, satisfied.]
Makes me wonder just what happened in here though...
Sorry for late life was happening
... But, yeah, its words are, well, just words now. It's not nearly as angry anymore, and haughtily agrees to the healing of the other Steelix. The potion will be tested on another Pokemon first, of course, you can never actually trust humans, but looks like these ones aren't completely devoid of reasonable thinking.
The first Steelix gives a disapproving grumble that means something along the lines of "the hell I'm taking any human thing"... just to be hushed by the second Steelix. You quiet down and just mind your injuries, and good job on getting beaten so easily. In the mines, you don't get to complain if you're weaker. You just get eaten.]
np!
It's Helio she's waiting for, and finally turns back and nods to her. ] The healing? [ Another nod. Blue looks briefly up to the Steelix and gives a nod to it, then turns around back to the group. It wasn't a pokémon she had been planning to sort out, but Kanji.
She grabs her bag from where it had been placed down during mining and goes over to him, ready to push aside any rocks if they're still there and to call over Indigo to help. But if and when that's all put aside- ]
Kanji, did it catch you badly anywhere?
no subject
[With the conflict easing off for now, his own Pokémon pull in closer, concerned. Come on, boss, you're a tough guy, right?]
no subject
[ She can apply some medicine and wrap it up with some basic first aid at least. ]
no subject
[He gestures at the Steelix duo. This is just incredibly awkward.]
Couldn't resist this
[Red has no idea this might have made it worse by adding pressure.]
no subject
[ That is a voice that isn't joking around. She stands back up, a few things in her hands, and voice softer. ]
Is it your upper or lower leg? [ She lowers her voice. ] Everyone's going to get back to mining, and I don't think it means anything to wild pokémon.
And if that guy does say something again, I'm keeping my word.
no subject
[Not helping, Red! Not in the slightest!]
Nnh. Here.
[He rather gingerly indicates-]
Pretty much my upper leg 'n knee.
no subject
Let the the barriers go down, but watch 'em. If they go to attack bring 'em up again, got it?
[The Carbink nods and Banzu walks back over to where he'd dropped his pickaxe, picking it up and resuming mining. Light Screen and Reflect will time out soon after, leaving the tunnel clear.]
no subject
no subject
She nods to Kanji to indicate that it'll be fine, allowing for him to pull down his own trousers, and she'll get out a potion bottle to show up to the steel pokémon before, hopefully, getting to work.
No time to be shy, Kanji. ]
no subject
[Crap. He slides his coat off from his shoulders (how he managed to keep it there while mining is definitely a mystery for the ages - static?) and wraps it around himself somewhat before letting Blue do what she needs to do. That's some nasty bruising and scraping there, at least.]
