SIDEQUEST; Investigate the mountain!

Date: Saturday the 15th of March
Plot Description: Newbie Rangers Eren and Jean investigate the mysterious signal jam in the high mountains. WHAT WILL THEY FIND??? And will they be able to work together to solve the problem?! (Probably not)
Warnings/Notes: None at the moment.

It was an easy enough assignment. There was warp band network interference in the high mountains. Go there, figure out what it was, and, if possible, fix it. Eren is accompanied by Blitz the jolteon, Matilda the scraggy, and Victor the lombre (somewhat hungover from his bar adventure the night before). Eren didn't want to risk being unprepared and unable to warp any of his Pokémon in if he needed their help, so he'd selected some of his strongest.

The hike up the mountains is mostly uneventful. Eren turns to Jean, "Do you think we should split up?"

The Glaceon scatter, regrouping on the rock. They're both snarling angrily, their eyes tinged red with feral fury.

[sturzflug]

"Oh, for Savior's sake!" Jean curses, glaring at Eren and Matilda. He really hates to pick needless fights with wild pokemon. He'd be pissed if two dumb humans came into his home, too.

"Alright, Apollo, you go on the offensive. Kiki, back him up-- you'll be good cause you're steel."

And don't think Jean would make the mistake of letting those Glaceon hit first again. This time he gives Apollo the go ahead to attack first, and the Fletchinder releases a powerful ember, its strength amplified by Jean's Mastery of Battle. (Even Apollo's a little upset about that Ice Beam earlier, ok.)

Hey, why are you glaring at HIM, Jean? Eren didn't do anything! It was his dumb lizard!

Who Eren is pointedly not chipping out of the ice. She needed the time out. Eren himself aims to blow the glaceons away with a whirlwind.

The Ember sweeps across the Glaceon and the Whirlwind slams them into a nearby wall. Both of them are downed, but slowly stagger to their feet, breathing heavily.

LEAVE! THIS IS OUR HOME NOT YOURS!

Eren gets between them and Matilda, at the very least. He pushes the anti-interference device close to the rock, then uses his warp band to send Matilda home; chunk of ice and all.

{Ok, I sent her away. I'm sorry she attacked you! She's... rude. Rude as hell. I shouldn't have brought her, I'm sorry. We really didn't mean any harm!}

The Glaceon are still snarling, but at least they aren't attacking?

[sturzflug]

"Look, I dunno what's going on here, but we need to put these things around that rock so we can use our Warp Bands, alright?"

Jean has no clue what Eren's squaking about, but all he really knows is the Glaceon are fucking stuff up.

"We don't wanna destroy your rock, so we gotta leave these shits here, got it?"

"I'll translate, I guess..." Eren says, looking back at the Glaceon. And then telling them, in Pokémon, exactly what Jean just said. Curses and all.

The Glaceon back away a bit, watching you both warily. They don't look like they're going to oppose you putting your thing there, but there's no guarantee they'll leave it alone if they leave. They know you're strong but they don't exactly like you.

[sturzflug]

"Okay, listen. You can leave these things alone, or not. You can do whatever the fuck you want. I ain't gonna stop you. But."

Jean sighs dramatically, shrugging like it's all such a pain.

"If you guys keep fucking with the devices, they'll have to send us back here every damn time. And then we're gonna be in your hair again, and it'll all be a huge pain in the ass. Or worse, they'll send some other saps to do it. But it's gonna keep happening. So if you guys don't like us, and you don't wanna see any more of us up here, you'll wanna leave that shit alone, capiche?"

[stahlflugel]

Ooh. That was good, Jean. Eren is impressed. He repeats what Jean said back to the Glaceons in Pokélanguage and adds a few comments of his own.

{And we're just rookies. They'll send stronger Rangers next time, and they might just try and drive you away permanently. So... if you don't want to see any more humans, leave these devices alone.}

With that, Eren carefully places their devices on either side of the rock, covering them a bit with snow so that they're not so obvious.

The Glaceon both glare, but they nod in acquiescence and back off.

Jean observes the Glaceons with caution, turning to Eren for clarification. Man, he really wishes Apollo could translate or something.

"They cool with that? What'd they say?"

[stahlflugel]

Eren nods back at them, {Thanks, you two.}

He turns back to Jean, shrugging with his wings a bit. "They didn't say anything, but they seem ok with it for now. I guess we'll see... but hey! That was a pretty smooth move, you know?"

[sturzflug]

"It was, huh?" Jean smirks, trying to play it off like it's no big deal.

"I mean, all I did was tell 'em what'd happen if they kept messing us up. All I gave 'em was the truth."

[stahlflugel]

"Well, I mean... I didn't even think of that! So whatever," Eren headbutts Jean a little with the intent to make him fall in the snow, "Just take the compliment!"

The Glaceon watch the two of you a bit confused. Then they start following at a discreet distance.

[sturzflug]

"Yeah, whatever." Jean replies, rolling his eyes and knocking Eren back. Not like, strong enough to knock him over or anything. It's just a thing they do.

"Let's get going. I'm just about done with all this damn snow."

[stahlflugel]

Eren laughs it off and shifts back to human form so he can properly stick his tongue out at Jean. From there it's a relatively short trip back to the head of the trail where Blitz and Victor are waiting.

Eren rolls his eyes and flicks them both on the head, "Thanks for all the help, you lazy shits." Blitz pouts and Victor sniggers. "Since you didn't do anything, I'm not using the warp band to send you home! You get to walk!" Jean doesn't have to speak Pokemon to interpret the put upon groans Eren's partners make. He kicks at them gently with his foot to get them walking, then glances behind him. He catches sight of the glaceon pair and nudges Jean, speaking quietly.

"Don't look, but I think they're following us. Do you think they just want to make sure we're really leaving?"

The Glaceon stop, hunching low and twitching their ears, straining to hear what Eren is saying. They look ready to bolt at any minute.

"You guys wants somethin' or what?" Honestly, Jean has had it up to here with these Glaceon. He's half a mind to bond with one of them, just to shut 'em up. At least if they bonded, they could stop giving him those weird looks.

"Yo! You hear me??"

[stahlflugel]

"Hey! Don't yell! Savior." Eren punches Jean a little, huffing.

{Did you two need something else, or what?}

Blitz, curious about the situation, comes back and stands at Eren's side. Oh look! Other Eevees! HELLO OTHER EEVEES!

Both the Glaceon eyes bulge and they scramble, darting behind some rocks before tentatively peeking out again a moment later.

Shit, they're being cute. Jean kneels down, holding out his arm for them-- trying to appear as un-menacing as possible.

The aoount of patience this kid has for pokemon versus humans is a little ridiculous.

"So? Are you guys gonna hide there, or what?"

So cute... Eren can't believe that they're being so friendly after being attacked. Pokémon really were interesting creatures. He snickers. "You trying to make friends now, Jean?"

Eren doesn't really care one way or another. Having an ice type around could be cool (literally), especially come summer. But he wouldn't be surprised if the Glaceon hated him for what Matilda did.

Blitz has no such hang-ups. He trots over to them, ears perked and fur smooth. He offers a cheerful hello and sniffs at them curiously.
