Slash 1: Starting Out [Video]

[Simon stares down the camera in his usual intimidating fashion, Taka the Taillow on his right shoulder and Tsurugi the Honedge floating to his left.]

It has been a long while since I have been able to freely draw my blade... and now that I can, I find I lack direction. While I feel that it might be best to find a forest clearing to train in at first, I am wondering where the rest of you trained when you first started out. It seems that the Old City and the Scorched Forest might be viable alternatives to simply training directly outside of Union, but I would like some confirmation.

Furthermore, what Pokemon would you recommend I bond with? As you can see, I have a Honedge and a Taillow on my side. [He gives Take a few scritches under his beak.] I would feel a bit more comfortable with traveling if I had a few more partners to work with. While I do trust that my blade is sturdy... it might still be a bit rusty.

Well, I do like it when a perfect match comes together.

Would you like to know any more pokémon? Or have you gotten enough names?

Sure. You did want to diverse your team... so there's always the rock and ground types in the canyon. [ She pauses. ]

Hmm, but if I picked by your looks... I bet a houndour would suit you. They have a strong presence, too - dark and careful...

...and absolutely loves belly rubs.

[She laughs.] Sorry! Well, maybe any houndour you meet might not be the same, but they are reliable. They're a dark and fire type.

And you're right, the canyons would be best to wait. But they're a good place to remember, especially for training.

Ominous...

[Yes, it sounds very sketchy.]

[She giggles. She knew what he meant but, you know.]

Well, one of every type would be useful to have with you. You should have a look in the old city once you've been around the forest. There's some interesting pokémon down there.

There's not really a type. [She pauses here, thoughtful.] There's some steel types, poison... magnemite, purrloins, and grimer if you're familiar with them. Further in has some ghost types - but you want to be careful how deep you go.

It's an interesting place! If exploration's your thing I would recommend it.

No problem. Good luck.
