In all these years I've spent here in Union, I can't help but be a little impressed with what our, err. Friends over at that evolution team are capable of. It's "different".
[He gives a sober look. The good doctor has been mulling over this for a while now... or at least, mulling over how he should present the issue... no, opportunity.]
I couldn't care less about their ideology, their theology, or whatever keeps them sleeping soundly at night. [As if Union's beliefs are any better, he thinks.] What's important is we have evidence there's a wealth of resources still left intact, just like our Old City out and beyond. We have something they don't have, but more importantly, they have something we don't! We don't have to like them. Worst comes to worst, I'm expecting at least a couple tussles. I mean, look at them, flexing their muscles at our faces. After reports of people injured, that's just asking for trouble.
Consider this a public statement from me, Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Why don't we use whatever's ahead of us as a learning experience? While we have the chance.
This is nothing less than... yes, an opportunity, I daresay. It's an opportunity for the ages!
[Action: University grounds]
"E-G622, I beg of you, do something about your butterfingers. For my sake! Unlike E-K599 or E-M081, you're the only one with hands!"
[Outside the university walls, but still within the campus fields, a rotund man is overseeing a rotund Golett lifting some heavy metal weights... only whenever he lifts them, without much issue, it promptly trips.]
"Ugh. Out of all the little clay automatons deciding it wants to follow me, it had to be the one with the balance problem. Looks like my assistant search is still on..."
[He sighs and rubs his forehead, knowing that endeavor's doomed to fail from the start. The Golett lifts itself up, still trying its darnest to lift the weights.]
"... There's no such thing as an A for effort, you know." [Robotnik crosses his arms, waiting for the Golett to stop trying.]

action;
[So after a long day's worth of hunting, he comes out of the building piled up with books on what little is known about programming, schematics, and mechanical devices. His Elekid is helping diligently, but his Golett seems to have the same amount of trouble that Robotnik with carrying things. He keeps wobbling with the measly three books in his arms and finally trips-- knocking Zap over who then knocks Jeff over from behind and they all tumble down into the grass a few feet from where the good doctor is. Jeff groans a little, sounding a bit sad as he gets up, patting the grass for where his glasses may have fallen. He definitely can't see a thing now.]
Robo don't-- walk over here. Don't step on anything... Please?
no subject
[Robotnik turns around and sees Jeff patting the ground for his glasses. The lad also has a Golett... a klutzy one at that. For once, Robotnik feels a powerful kind of sympathy for his fellow man. Giving a sigh, he walks over after signalling Cauldron to stay... which is promptly disobeyed as he follows the doctor.]
All I can say is that I feel your pain. ... But just what in reason's name are you doing, patting the ground down like that?
no subject
My uh. My glasses fell, I'm really near sighted. Please don't step on them...
[His Elekid finishes stacking up the books that were dropped dutifully and begins to search around his friend eagerly, possibly because he's always wanted to wear Jeff's glasses himself rather than actually helping but. It's progress?]
no subject
[As Robotnik's Golett sits, he kneels on the ground and helps out with the search.]
My eyesight, personally, is just fine, but I know it takes weeks for the lenscrafters to prepare a prescription pair of lenses in this town. You students have enough of a hard time without that nonsense.
no subject
Th-thanks mister.
[It's all Jeff can really do right now, because he can't recognize who this is if he even remembers him from the sparse conversations with his dad. It's not like he's been at home for the passed ten years anyway. His life outside of school is new, he doesn't know any of his dad's colleagues or friends.]
[Finally, with a hurrah, Zap jumps up with the thick rimmed glasses, waving them in triumph and putting them on for a quick second before Jeff snatches them back from his friend. He wipes them on his shirt and puts them back on, finally looking clearly up at the doctor.]
Thanks for the help... they're really thick so they slide off my nose a lot.
sorry about that... school got super hectic!
[He points to his own glasses. They've got a firm pinch on the bridge of the doctor's nose. Stylish, functional, but probably a little expensive! He looks at Jeff, studying his features.]
Hrmm... You know, with those glasses... Are you here to see your father, young man?
it's cool! im super slow at tags forgive me in advance
[He trails off a little at the question, pushing himself to stand up and dust himself off.]
My father? No, I was in the library.
we are both slow
Are you sure you're not the son of Dr. Andonuts? The man never mentioned a son, but then again, we're not really close friends.
no subject
I am, sir. I didn't know that's who you meant. Father... doesn't work on campus any longer.
video;
But he does want to know more about the technology that they possess.]
I have to say, I agree.
Who knew that there existed humans out there with such advanced technology. It would be a boon to my team's research at the very least.

I am Dr. William Flemming, I head a small team of engineers. We focus mostly on devices to make life easier within the city, though we've always been developing materials for people to explore outside the city.
You might have heard of the machines that were found in the tunnels. They appear to aid in pokemon evolution. At the moment, they're not something the city could use, but with enough time either my team or another team will be able to make it workable.
no subject
We know about Pokemon evolution quite well, but did they not mention something about human evolution? It sounds like philosophic nonsense to me, really.
no subject
They say Enlightened are related to the Savior, but that doesn't say anything at all about human evolution. But then again, that's not really my specialty.
Seems pretty pointless.

no subject
My wife wasn't Enlightened, and my daughter isn't either so I suppose I'm used to being treated differently. I can see how it's a problem, though.
I don't look that unusual [just pale and when he actually uses his abilities he starts to look more inhuman] but there are other Enlightened out there that stand out more.
There are those that say people and pokemon are the same thing, after all. I guess I can't really blame them for being curious, even if it's annoying.
no subject
But I'll tell you now: I'd rather be born a Robotnik, as we're all very creative people, than I would "Enlightened".
no subject
[He's not so sure. It's not arrogance, exactly. Maybe it's being Enlightened.]
It's not as though my abilities have given me much of a leg up.
[He's steel type. He's kind of useless.]
I do agree with you. I'm a scientist first, Enlightened second.
action;
Yep, just going to stand there... looking helpful and unsaleable as a guard of the city and it's people.]
Re: action;
[And so it does. Cauldron, the klutzy Golett, trips and throws up the metal scraps into the air. The scraps tumble and fall, burying the clay doll inside.]
What did I tell you! Why does nobody listen to me!?
no subject
Um....
Excuse me.. I-I'm..
I'm part of the City Guard, um, could you use some assistance? [It should be easy to tell this tall sweaty looser isn't all that great at the whole "talky" thing.]
no subject
[Don't mind him. He's just really frustrated right now. In all fairness, Robotnik isn't particularly an ideal person to talk with for those not used to talking.]
no subject
no subject
[But Eggman was stronger than he lets on. He just. Likes bothering people, evidently.]
no subject
Ah.. W-Where are we talking these? [ He's slow but careful with the other man's things. ]
no subject
If you'd like, just throw them to the side. It's all garbage. Just a bunch of weights for old butterfingers over here.
[He points at Golett who's still reaching for the steel plates in Bertholdt's hands.]
You had your chance!
no subject
He leaves his large body down, sitting on his knees painfully holding all the scraps in his arms. This way the Pokemon wouldn't have to try and bend over and try and lift himself back up.] W-would you like to help..?
[He knows he shouldn't.. that the human might be upset with him.. but Bertholdt can't.. just..--]

It's as if they think tech itself is evil. That's what happens when you get too emotionally charged about your ideals.
Hmm, you're not a city guardsman are you, young man?
no subject
That's stupid. Technology is a tool. It can't be evil by itself.
I am! Well... not for much longer. I'm joining the Rangers! [and he seems super happy about that]
no subject
As if we don't already have enough problems, this city is willing to pass up a glaring opportunity to make some brilliant changes. I suppose that's why you're going into this Rangering business, to get away from all that.
no subject
The video thing on our warp bands is just the tip of the ice berg for the things we could get done. We could expand our borders! Technology and treating pokémon with respect... they're not mutually exclusive! [EREN HAS A LOT OF FEELINGS] Well, I've always wanted to be a Ranger. I want to see the world outside of the city. But getting away from people who aren't willing to make some changes... that might be nice, too.
