[ Jean's normally spiky/fluffy haircut is even spikier today, if that's possible. The culprit? His baby mareep, which has decided to perch itself on his fluffy head. Babies are tiny, ok. And also full of static. ]

So the egg hatched the other day. You wouldn't believe what a pain it is to keep an electric-type from friggin' waking you up all the time when you've got feathers. This dumb mareep won't stop messing with my wings! But ma' likes her a lot, I guess, so we've been keeping her at home. Personally, I think she just wants free wool. (Don't let her know I said that.)

Anyway I guess I'll add my two cents in saying this tournament stuff is bullshit. But it beats getting attacked by weird machines so whatever, y'know? As long as they don't pull that shit again, who cares?

Oh, and I joined the Rangers, I guess. You can blame friggin' Eren and his dumb face. I know this shit ain't my journal or whatever but I've been kinda busy so I figured I owed some of you guys an update.

Still sucks that I couldn't get into the Swords, though.

Sound half-hearted there about the Ranger thing.

That's cause I am. I got talked into it and I couldn't really think of a reason not to go for it, I guess.

Not dying and not getting anyone else killed for being half-hearted might be a good place to start thinking.

I'm not worried about doing things half-heartedly, it's the full-hearted idiots I'm worried about. People who're too wrapped up in putting their life on the line are the first ones to die, and I got a friend who's a damn prime offender.

Just cause I'm looking at this thing rationally doesn't mean I'll charge in there if I thought my actions could get anyone killed. I'm pretty damn aware of the risk and I'm plenty capable, what's it matter if my reasons aren't some abstract bullshit like "the glory of Union"?

Honestly, with a half-hearted reason the concern'd be more that you'd charge out. [ But for his friend... yeah, she gets that - that's probably why Harth hung out with her so closely... but then that's also why he was killed ] As long as you're skilled and not going to do that though, then sure.

Whether I'm skilled or not-- I could still die out there. Surviving is usually a case of knowing when to turn tail, if you ask me.

Idiots like Eren who have too much damn pride are the ones who'll die if nobody reins em in. They don't know when to quit, and they think "wanting to do good" will pull 'em through every fight they get into. That's why I'm joining.

There was a spare at the Outpost and I signed on a low recruitment time, so I got it from there. Then I got assigned under Jade Curtiss for both of my trial missions, in lieu of the training camp I guess they're doing now.
