Thespians for Sale! (Date Auction)

Almost there! It had taken them the better part of a year, but the Union Divine Theater had nearly been restored in the aftermath of Kyurem’s attack. As a historic monument, they had to be careful to only use period-appropriate building materials, and employed only the finest craftsmen. But now they’re nearly ready for business again.

So of course, they’re holding a fundraiser. And, of course, it’s a date auction.

Not just any date auction, though! The courtyard has been taken up with several small tables, behind which each thespian being raffled off is seated. Interested bidders are welcome to chat with the “prizes” or to check out the long line of tables across from the auction decorated with several super-classy glass jars. Each jar has a person’s name on it, and a small watercolor picture of the person in question next to it. These individuals have volunteered (or been volunteered) to serve as extra dates - just buy a ticket from the Slowking and the Wooper at the end of the tables and you can enter to win!

Small placards scattered throughout the event specify that all “prizes” must be 18 years or over, and that all dates must be family-friendly. All “prizes” also have the option, if they desire, of specifying which gender of date they prefer. Additionally, while the humans mingle, their Pokémon are encouraged to chat with the Nidoking who’s waiting just inside the theater. He’s giving tours of the stage area complete with the option of putting on a production! Be sure to tell your Trainers to buy tickets to the Theater’s next show!

The event will run all day, with bidding starting at $25 (Union currency). Are you ready to make a new friend??

[[ OOC: The date raffle and auction is live! Please follow the instructions beneath each top-level below. Each character being auctioned will have their own auction thread, where all bids go for that character - threadjacking is encouraged, and a mingle thread where people can talk to that character. Each character being raffled has their own section for people to note they’ve put in a ticket, but these can all be replies to the top-level. Each character being raffled also has their own spot for mingling. OOCly, results for the auctions and raffles will be announced in about a week.

Pokémon interested in performing on stage can leave top-level comments in the section at the bottom of the post. Their scene partner tags in with a result from the RP Scenario Generator: this is the scene the two Pokémon are encouraged to act out. An assortment of costume pieces, sets, and props are available. [ There is a Noibat perched on this jar. Every time someone approaches, it chuckles. It seems very, very pleased with itself. ] Noi noi.

[ Its Trainer is....around, looking at the other jars, glancing up at the Theater and surrounding buildings as if studying the architecture. Her arms are crossed. And her face matches the picture next to this jar. ]

You seem about as comfortable here as I am. [ Rumbles the massive Calderan, approaching and gesturing towards the Noibat with his right hand as a greeting. ]

Noi! [ Nemesis flutters her wings, tapping a claw against the jar. Veronica turns when she hears a familiar voice. ]

It's good to see you've recovered.

[ Mewtwo was...an experience. ]

Yes I... tend to get the brunt of it when we confront such things. I'll be a bit less willing to fight I think, in the future. Still, it is well that things ended as they did. Perhaps we'll be able to work with the Pokemon to prove a better future is possible, and that we aren't doomed to fall again.

[ Garviel looks at the jar. He looks at Veronica. He is a bit embarrassed Nemesis put him on the spot like that, when he was simply looking to socialize a bit with someone he was acquainted with. Best to let the moment pass, he resolves. ]

That seems to be the strategy this city employs. [ She was surprised it worked, honestly, but she's not going to argue with results. So her only reaction is a single blink. ]

Are you participating here?

Well, I was looking to help put money in and help the theater. If you meant... otherwise, no. Should I have been?

[ Frankly he doesn't really see the point in all of it, but he's curious about where Veronica is going with that question ]

[ Polite curiosity, mostly. She hadn't even known this was going on until she came across it on her rounds - and once she saw her name on a jar, she realized that Nemesis hadn't gotten "lost" earlier so that they'd end up here. ] That's up to you.

Noi! [ Except sometimes not!! Veronica closes her eyes until Nemesis gets the hint and stops looking smug. ]

Your companion seems rather insistent. I could ask Jotaro to play with them for a while if you like.

[ His Riolu reacts to mention of his name, and strikes a rather dramatic pose as it steps out from behind him ]

[ That would be said companion's decision, wouldn't it? Veronica turns to the Noibat. ] Nemesis?

[ Nemesis looks at the Riolu and frowns. That's your pose? What is that supposed to be? ] Noi noi?

[greyerrant]

[ Loken folds his arms and waits for Nemesis to make a decision. Riolu apes Garviel, folding paws over chest and standing on tip-toe on it's hind legs, as Riolu are inclined to do. ]

So, what does it say?

[blastruler]

[ Nemesis looks from Riolu to human and back again, then sighs and lifts off from the jar. When next she settles back down, she'll be aiming for Jotaro's head. She doesn't need a daddy's boy keeping her company, but if he'd be lonely playing by himself, she'll oblige... ] Noi.

She says "thank you". [ Veronica is smiling, though she doesn't seem to have made a joke. ]

Ah. [ Jotaro soon has his head settled on, and instantly moves as if to somersault forward, offering up it's bottom paws for Nemesis to perch on in a show of athleticism. Rio!!! ]

[ Showoff. Nemesis flutters in midair, as if debating whether or not to perch back down. Finally she descends. Slowly.

She may be seeing how long he can hold that pose. ]

[Minako recognized the woman, but did her best not to show it. Instead, she walked over to introduce herself once she had a break from her own raffle table.]

Hi. How are things going for you?

[blastruler]

[ Veronica glances at her jar before returning her gaze to Minako. Something about this girl seemed familiar, but she wouldn't let that bother her. ] As you can see.

[ Nemesis snickers. Such social skills! ] Noi!

Well, I hope things go well for you with whomever wins. It's all for a good cause, after all.

[She gave a small bow.]

I'm Minako, by the way. It's very nice to meet you.

Veronica. [ Nemesis sniffs the air, trying to figure out where this deja vu is coming from. ] Are you participating?

I am! I have a table over there.

[See that empty spot? That was hers.]

It's been fun so far. I've met a lot of new people.

The cause seems worthy.

[ Her own verdict is out about the form the fundraiser's taken, though. ]

Oh, definitely! In addition to being a great place for people to come and be entertained, and a place to employ all the people who work here, it's also a historic building in Union! And it's important to preserve what we can of the past.

[ Oh ho? Before Veronica can reply, the Noibat who'd been hanging out on the raffle jar lifts off and flaps over to examine Minako. You sound very knowledgeable! That's rare. ] Noi noiiii....

Are there any other landmarks you'd recommend to newcomers?

Hm?

[Minako looked up at the hovering Noibat, a little surprised at its approach.]

A few. There's an entire buried city under Union from The Savior's time. Most of it's been opened up and revealed now. I think the rarer artifacts are in one of the museums. I'd be careful down there, though. No one's really set it up for casual exploring. You should be prepared for some physicality to the trip if you decide to go. I've been down there a few times to train and whatnot.

[ This Noibat looks like Salvation just came early. She turns on Veronica, eyes alight. Hey! Veronica! Can they, can they....

Her Trainer resigns herself with grace. This is what she gets for striking a bond agreement that included the sentiment "take me out to play". ] I think we can handle it.

[ Swords of the Savior, and all. Now. Does she know you from somewhere? She can't shake that feeling, so she's looking at Minako with more interest. ] The recommendation's appreciated.

[She nodded, pretending she wouldn't know why they'd be able to handle things down there on their own.]

Well, if you need a guide, I'm willing to help.

[Totally innocent smile! Though, the extra scrutiny doesn't go completely unnoticed. Time to make a gracious exit.]
