Thespians for Sale! (Date Auction)

Almost there! It had taken them the better part of a year, but the Union Divine Theater had nearly been restored in the aftermath of Kyurem’s attack. As a historic monument, they had to be careful to only use period-appropriate building materials, and employed only the finest craftsmen. But now they’re nearly ready for business again.

So of course, they’re holding a fundraiser. And, of course, it’s a date auction.

Not just any date auction, though! The courtyard has been taken up with several small tables, behind which each thespian being raffled off is seated. Interested bidders are welcome to chat with the “prizes” or to check out the long line of tables across from the auction decorated with several super-classy glass jars. Each jar has a person’s name on it, and a small watercolor picture of the person in question next to it. These individuals have volunteered (or been volunteered) to serve as extra dates - just buy a ticket from the Slowking and the Wooper at the end of the tables and you can enter to win!

Small placards scattered throughout the event specify that all “prizes” must be 18 years or over, and that all dates must be family-friendly. All “prizes” also have the option, if they desire, of specifying which gender of date they prefer. Additionally, while the humans mingle, their Pokémon are encouraged to chat with the Nidoking who’s waiting just inside the theater. He’s giving tours of the stage area complete with the option of putting on a production! Be sure to tell your Trainers to buy tickets to the Theater’s next show!

The event will run all day, with bidding starting at $25 (Union currency). Are you ready to make a new friend??

[[ OOC: The date raffle and auction is live! Please follow the instructions beneath each top-level below. Each character being auctioned will have their own auction thread, where all bids go for that character - threadjacking is encouraged, and a mingle thread where people can talk to that character. Each character being raffled has their own section for people to note they’ve put in a ticket, but these can all be replies to the top-level. Each character being raffled also has their own spot for mingling. OOCly, results for the auctions and raffles will be announced in about a week.

Pokémon interested in performing on stage can leave top-level comments in the section at the bottom of the post. Their scene partner tags in with a result from the RP Scenario Generator: this is the scene the two Pokémon are encouraged to act out. An assortment of costume pieces, sets, and props are available. [He wasn't sure how he even got signed up. Because he knew very well he didn't do it, and all of his bondmates swore they knew nothing about it. Except Nemo, who just glared at him as indignantly as possible before saying something about human courtship rituals being completely baffling. But here he was, even if he didn't know who signed him up. He decided to agree to it anyway because who knows, a date might be fun, and if nothing else he could contribute to a good cause. He was told to hang out near the raffle site, and to look approachable and friendly. Desirable was a bonus.

So he took off his long fighting gloves for the occasion.

Standing at about 6'3'', the fully evolved Adell, while not as broad shouldered as the biggest fighting types, was still pretty clearly all muscle. That said, he didn't make a huge deal out of it, no ridiculous flexing or anything... unless someone asked him to do it. At first he looked a little awkward for all this, but soon settled in to get comfortable enough. After all, he did need to look confident enough to try to win over some tickets into his jar. More tickets meant more money for the theater!

Still, anyone who approached would be greeted with a big smile and a friendly greeting and wave.]

Maybe you should relax some, [Pidge piped up when she approached the table, holding out a bottle of water for the stranger to take. Although she wasn't officially a part of the theater or able to participate because of her age, she still took it upon herself to try helping out with the little things when necessary.

After all, she had her own reasons for doing this. Getting the funds to finalize the renovations on the theater would just make her feel better at this point.]

The smile's great, but if you do it too much it'll start to look fake and weird-- and no one wants that.

[Adell took the bottle of water with a grateful nod, and took a long drink from it. After a moment, he eased up and tried to be less tense.]

Ah, thanks. For the water, and for the tip. I've never done anything like this before. Not used to having a spotlight on me like this.

[Ah-- that was good. Pidge cast him a smile now that he was less likely to scare others off with his discomfort, glad to have been able to help even a little with this.]

If it's any consolation to you, that's the case for a lotta people today. Everyone came out to try something different and support a good cause, so everyone's in the same boat here.

[She looked up (and up, and up) at him now, curious about this person now that they were talking.]

What sort of person are you hoping to meet here, anyway?

[To that, he shrugged.]

To be honest, I don't really know. I didn't sign myself up for this. But I figured if it was for the good of the theater, what could it hurt? Worst case scenario is I end up on a date that doesn't pan out, I figure.

[Perhaps a little blase, but on the other hand?]

And on the best case scenario, I might meet someone I connect with. Either as a friend or something more. I'd be happy with either.

[And if anything, there's an earnestness in his voice and face that says he's honest about it. He's not really the sort to be too concerned about a "type," if nothing else. Just who the person is.]

That's a good way to look at it, [Pidge said, grin broadening with those words. I hope you have some good luck with whatever comes out of today, one way or the other.

[Because, to be frank, she still didn't understand this dating stuff too well....but she was also still a young teenager, and she had lots of growing up to do.]

[ Booms loken, looking about as happy as he ever does in a social situation. Which is not too bad, now that he sees someone that he owes. ]

[Adell wasn't surprised to see the warrior looking somewhat grim and uncomfortable in a situation like this. As awkward as Adell had felt himself, Garviel had to feel far moreso.]

Not bad, actually. I'm not really used to getting this much attention. But I'm getting used to it... and I'm actually having fun.

I am... socializing.

[ Which means he's more moving around and talking to people, trying to ascertain things to talk about based on what he knows of them from previous encounters. It can make for some very perfunctory interactions,but at least he's trying ]

[He chuckles at that answer. Yep, he's definitely trying, he'd definitely give him that.]

Well, this is a good place for it. A lot of people around here, and so far they've all been friendly. And heck, if you find someone here you enjoy socializing with enough, might as well throw in for a raffle ticket for 'em. Never know, might win and get a date.

[Admittedly, he's been considering it. He's just not sure who he would put a ticket in for yet...]

While I had come here with the intent of spending some of my pay I hadn't any intention of ah... being so forward. I merely wished to help where I could.

[ He looks very stern. ]

[It didn't much matter who signed him up. Yuuna had actually meant to talk to this kid after their encounter with the Greninja in the forest, and now was as good a time as any. So the Ranger Captain, easily 6'6", covered in lean athlete's muscle and wearing a white martial arts uniform under a Ranger jacket, meandered up. Trailing not far behind was a Spoink, hopping along cheerfully.]

[He gave Yuuna a smile when she approached, but a more easy, relaxed one.]

Yeah, I am, now that I've into it a bit more. What's up, Yuuna?

[Yuuna rolled her shoulders in an amused shrug and nodded off towards Ami.]

Oh, nothing much. Just signed my friend up to mess with her, and I'm enjoying the sights.

[Oh, that got him to laugh a bit. Ami, from where he had been standing, had been looking quite... miffed, about this whole situation, even though she was doing her best to put on a good face for it.]

I shouldn't find that funny, considering I'm in the same boat she is. Someone else signed me up too. But heck, it's for a good cause, so why not?

Well, that's just it. It is for a good cause. [She plunks down in a seat across from Adell and looks around at the other folks.]

Ami needs to loosen up, too. She's engaged to be married to a politician, but she still freezes up in public and isolates herself in her work. I'm the maid of honor, so I sort of have to make sure things go off well.

[Well, whether she's taken or not, that kind of reaction is rather flattering. Of course, he recognizes Rise as one of the Theater crew up for auction, and gives her a thumbs up with a smile.]

Didn't think I'd get that kind of reaction, so that's a heck of a compliment. Thanks.

So, how'd you end up roped into all this?

[Duo'd been lucky, he supposed. He hadn't gotten placed in the raffle, probably because he was still a year under age. It all seemed kind of crazy to him. He didn't mind the idea of getting someone, but being the person that was got seemed a bit nerve-wracking. He was glad he wasn't up there waiting for people to come try to buy or win him.]

Someone else signed me up. I'm still trying to figure out who did it.

[Still, as flat as it sounded at first, it was clear he really wasn't offended. Because this could be far, far worse.]

But I agreed to it because it'd help out the theater, and while I've never really been here before, I've heard a lot of people like it. Figured if I could help make people happy, it was worth it.

Well, that's a good way to look at it, I suppose. But, yeah. I'd probably be pretty weirded out by someone putting my name in without asking me.

How'd you find out? The organizers just contacted you?

That was it exactly. I got a message delivered to me by a carrier Pidgey. I thought about ignoring it, but like I said, it's for a good cause.

Still, I'm not sure who did it. For all I know, it might have been one of my Pokemon partners, but they're all denying any knowledge. Not sure how much of that I believe.
