Tenth Snapshot | Action;Video

[Someone has been hard at work since returning from Glacier.]

[Or at least, trying to be. Space wasn't really the issue. He'd found a small room and with permission, set it up as a temporary dark room. He really needed to just rent out a studio but for now, being as he was still settling after the Oakenshield residence went up for sale, this would work for what he needed it.]

[He had some pretty important pictures to develop. It's too bad the place covered in huge, extroverted pokemon made that really difficult.]

[About the sixth time someone tried to open the door (Three or four times with it still being locked somehow) Hayato just set out his two biggest pokemon to guard the door while he worked.]

[Feel free to still try to bug him. Nikon is kind of a pushover and Fuji is really easily distracted. He could probably use an interruption.]

[Video]

[When the video clicks on. Hayato can be seen with a bright grin. He's wearing a work apron and a pair of goggles on his head- his usual for working on photos. As such his antennae are visible for once instead of being crammed under a hat. They flick and twitch with his expressions.]

So it looks like everyone had a pretty good trip. We made out okay even if I've gotta be kind of hush hush about the details, but what about everyone else? Got anything fun to share?

[It looks like he's about to say something else when there's the distinct sound of a door opening and a creaking of hinges. He jolts, antennae flicking straight up and he turns towards the hall he was standing near.]

Oi!

[Someone tried to go in the dark room again. The feed ends as he's running towards the source.]

...Leavanny.

[ Natto's jaw is dropped open and his eyes are sparkling. He's focused on Hayato's....forehead. This is the first human he's seen besides Trainer to wear those eye-covering apparatuses. He wonders whether he could make them....fashionable. ]

It would seem Refuge is host to a number of ruins underground, in addition to their city. They've been very well preserved, it makes me wonder what else might be hidden down there.

..Is everything all right?

[The Skitty was displeased.

You could observe this by watching him. The way he narrowed his eyes every time he passed by Hayato's impromptu 'dark room' and swished his tail whenever he saw the weird bug man were clear tells of that. Atlas had told him to be nice; Orpheus had told him to go pester Agravain, but neither suggestion was satisfactory to the ornery skitty. After being forced from his home when that jackass Dragon attacked the city, Baccus had been more defensive of his territory.

You do not deny him access to any part of his home.

That was why, currently, he was engaged in a staredown with the guards the Bug Man had assigned to his 'dark room'. What, oh what could he do to distract them...?]

[Blink. That sure is a pokemon. He is ...not sure what to respond with besides a wave and a smile. Such ...sparkling, though. He's not sure what he said to garner that kind of reaction.]

Hey there!

[But yep he does have goggles on his head.]

[It takes him a minute to reply ...are there claw marks in his shirt now?]

Oh really? Kind of like the Old City here in Union, then. Interesting. I guess It's not too surprising to find remains of what this era's built over top.

[And he gives a sheepish laugh.]

Fine! I'm in the midst of developing some photos so I have to keep light out of the closet I've set everything up. Some of the pokemon around here have taken Do Not Enter as a challenge rather than a rule.

[ ..Oh dear. At least the tears aren't too long or deep, easily fixed with a dab bit of sewing. ]

The area had recently come to light, so to speak. It was a short distance from Refuge proper, and was very well preserved. I'm not a seeker, so I wouldn't be able to compare it to other ruins, but we found both the remnants of a small town and a factory.

[ And that was just for starters. ]

Have you tried explaining to them why they can't go in? Though, I admit, I don't know much about the process of photograpy - why is light bad for development?

[Nikon the Aggron and Fuji the Gogoat were taking their jobs pretty seriously. As serious as they could. Nikon, for all her ability to be intimidating was clearly faltering because she ran out of metal to snack on. BUT she didn't dare leave. Nope. Nope...]

[Fuji, meanwhile- well. Ever since he was a skiddo he'd had issues communicating. So instead of communicating he just headbutted things.]

[In an attempt to ask what Baccus wanted he just decided to charge him instead. Yep.]

[ Natto points at the goggles and nods his approval. ] Van van. Leava van.

[ Some fiddling with the Warp Band, and he's panning the video around the Theater's costume room. He hasn't been working on costumes lately - the fabric has gone towards relief efforts - but there are still plenty of outfits in here. ] Leavanny!

[ ...he's being too obtuse, isn't he. ]

I've ...tried. But some of them are very- ah. Headstrong, I've noticed. And I'm not about to chastise someone else's pokemon.

[A blink- and oh! Photography question. He grins.]

To put it easy terms, light is both what makes photos and destroys them. In order to project the negatives onto the photopaper they have to be exposed to some kind of light to activate the silver salts in the paper, but if there's too much light, everything just fogs out, leaving a bleached looking photo. It's a very precarious balance.

So a small lamp with a red light would be what I would need to make photos, but say, if someone opened the closet door while I was working... [And he grimaces.]

[Ugh! This thing was worse than Bucephalus-- just as dumb, but a lot bigger!

Hissing in agitation, Baccus jumped out of the way and started to claw his way up the door jamb...because climbing shit was totally his jam.

These two lugs wouldn't be as annoying as that Doublade's Garchomp, that's for sure!]

Ah. Yes. It is difficult not to overstep those sorts of bounds, especially when it isn't someone you're bonded to. Or even when you are.

[she can sympathise, at any rate. Her expression sharpens a little as she listens to him describe the process, and she can't help but shake her head by the end]

..And all your hard word would be wasted. A potentially expensive waste, at that.

If so many pokémon are underfoot all the time, have you considered perhaps renting a small room or office for photography purposes only? The risk of disruption would be far less that way.

Yeah, and trying to keep my unruly lot inline is more than enough work for me, heh.

[He nods.]

I have, actually! I moved recently, so I think when I'm settled I'm going to look into getting some kind of studio.

It was a bit easier when it was just me and Ymir. But I don't think I'd trade the company of my newest friends for anything, even if they are quite a handful. I take it they're not really the sorts to lend a hand, or paw, as it were?

I'd imagine that there's quite a bit of competition for space right now, too, during the rebuilding. How big a studio would you need, do you think?

[Oh. Wow. Did they do all that??? He looks impressed. And ...was that pointing at him.]

[...He points at his goggles to ask.]

Oh- do you like these? Or are you pointing at the antennae.

[Sometimes he really did wish he could speak pokemon.]

[You think wrong, friend. Nikon sees you and while she isn't a bully, she definitely tries to follow Trainer's orders. Enjoy that towering shadow over you.]

[Just what are you doing there sir.]

More like their idea of help is a little overboard. And some of them are just rowdy. They're all punks but I love 'em.

[He means the best, really. They are just a handful.]

Not a big one really. I only really need enough space to work in. Right now I'm doing it out of a storage closet in the hall.

[Nero was many things, but but patient was not one of them. She'd knocked six times, and considered simply blasting down the door and the guards, but that would be rude. Seriously rude. And she wasn't going to be that person.

However whatever guards were there were simply a nuisance. And that wouldn't do. So, she stomped her foot on the ground. Hard enough to shake the foundation.]

If you don't come out, I'm going to keep doing that until whatever your doing falls over!

[To her benifit he DID actually ignore all those knocks. He was busy!! It was hard to get away when he got as deep into this as he was.]

[Her stomping, through, causes some of the chemicals he has in bins to slosh and THAT was a problem. He quickly throws the curtain over his work and carefully slips out.]

Oi, oi, calm down! I'm here, what's going on?

[Nero folds her arms, puffs up her cheeks, and looks up at him.]

Hayato, I haven't seen you since we got back. I haven't even seen you eat. That's what's going on!

[...]

[WELL He could honestly say that caught him off guard. She was completely right! He just didn't think anyone would pick up on it.]

Um- well. The photos. I'm still working on the photos.

[But note he is not denying her claims.]

Unacceptable.

[Nero's face darkens, her eyes focusing on him completely. Is he stupid?]

Food. Drink. Company. These things are more important than developing any photographs. Those are not going anywhere. And they aren't worth your health.

[Erk. He definitely feels like he's in trouble.]

...Okay. You got me.

[Maybe he really should get something to eat. A break did sound kind of nice. He's not used to getting scolded for his work but... if Nero was that concerned about it, then it must have been pretty bad.]

Did you have something in mind?

Umu...

[Exasperation flickers through her eyes, now. SHE had ALSO just been lonely, and that was reason enough for him to come out but she's smart enough not to say that...]

Yes. You need to eat. It's important that you remember to do so. So, let us go to that Calderan restaurant two streets down. That should be enough distraction for a while.

Lea. [ Natto pulls two leaves out of seemingly nowhere and holds them up on his own head to mimic Hayato's lenses. It's always fun to meet a fellow Bug-type, of course, but this is the really exciting part. ]

Mine get rowdy if they think I need protecting. [so, almost all the time then] But at least they just want to do their best.

Goodness! That's barely any space at all. Though I can see why the pokémon would want to get in to see what you're doing. They must think that very strange even for a human.
