001 | Action
[There was really nothing to be said about the state that Union currently was in. News of the attack the city had endured had reached the surrounding areas quickly and, although Kon had planned on waiting the season out in Caldera before he trekked down the cold passage to Union, waiting wasn't an option any longer for a city in need. His passage with the band of Calderans who had trekked south to help the ruined city had been seamless-- no one questioned his joining in their caravan, and the offers to assist with manual labor and cooking had been much appreciated.
Sure, he didn't have much experienced as a trainer or an organized fighter under his belt, but he knew his way around bartering very well...and he was far from actually useless.
And, just as he had fallen into place with the caravan that he had travelled to Union with, he fell into place with the relief efforts as best as he could. The gangly young man in the floridly bright overcoat and the messy bun was easy to spot in the crowd, but among the sea of new faces milling about his presence could hardly be counted as a surprise. His trusty Litwick was perched on his shoulder, looking out for anyone or anything that looked vaguely familiar from it's long journey...but, in the wreckage, nothing in particular stood out.]
Sheesh, [Kon could be heard grumbling on occasion,] Can't believe the Valkyries actually beat me here.
[Not that it was a problem-- Kon had actually been closer to the city than they were, and they still beat him.
He can be found anywhere that an extra hand is needed, probably bartering his physical skills for a safe place to sleep. There was no place to do anything more as the city currently was, but that was to be expected in the aftermath of a rampaging god. Setting up a regular residence was out of the question for the moment, there was so much to do.
It was a small price to pay for a city that somehow managed to survive such a disaster...and, at least Kon wouldn't have any reason to be bored.]

Action;
Either that, or she was an Analyst, or he wasn't nearly as good at hiding his issues as he thought he was.]
Can't complain too much about free food, can we? Especially if it's hot and filling. And, for someone who's been on the road from Citadel for a while, anything is a goood thing.
...And that's where I think we could have met. You've got the look of a Valkyrie about you.
Action;
[Mention of her being a Valkyrie, however, gets an excited peep from the Swablu on her uninjured shoulder, and little beak nuzzles Gwendolyn's cheek lightly. That earns the smallest of smiles, not the usual sort shown by Valkyrie, before she looks up at Kon again, schooling her face back to seriousness]
You truly don't remember me? [she can't quite decide if she's annoyed by that or not]
Action;
There's a lot of ladies and a lot of fighters at the tree, and depending on the timing...
[He had either been ill or slowly recovering from his injuries and illness for the first several months. The God's rampage had taken full use of his right arm, and his injuries had gotten infected during the process. It had taken him over a month to shake the infection, and then he had to deal with his own quandaries.
Sure, the girl's face was familiar...but he didn't have a photographic memory either.]
Action;
Still, he has a point about the timing. ]
The past few months have been quite busy for Valkyrie, especially with the aid we've given Glacier. My wing- [there's a flicker of pain, before she presses on as though she hadn't tumbled on the word] -my wing have been following the herds as of late, until I was assigned here.
[here, with a broken arm - though that'd definitely a recent thing.]
Ragnanival has a new elder now, you know.
Action;
You're that girl who dropped in to talk with that Old Man about business a few times when the chaos settled, aren't you?
[--Gosh, she had been fun to tease! Even now, he was grinning.]
Looks like we've got something else in common right now. Welcome to the club, even if your stay is only temporary!
[Poking fun at her injured arm and his own limitations.]
Not that it matters. An arm isn't enough to hold anyone up-- tell me more about what's happening with your tribe. I've actually been in Caldera for the last couple months, so I'm behind on the news.
Action; sorry this took so long X_X
[chide chide chide. but yes, that was her] That's hardly a respectful way to refer to him. [even if he IS old]
Temporary? [she shakes her head dismissively] I was assigned here prior to the attack. I have yet to receive word that I have been called home, so here I will stay.
That explains more than it doesn't. [Regarding his being in Caldera and not Citadel] Ragnanival has a new elder for one, she took her place on the council at the turn of the new year. The Galcians who've remained with us seem to be settling in well and there's talk that the Matriarch will be looking to promote others who've been working alongside our allies, but details beyond that are hearsay at best.
[and now she is well away from the gossip network whispering words on the wind, and feels far better for it - not that Gwendolyn would say so aloud. She misses the Great Tree, but not that aspect of their lives.]
It's fine~ Life has been hectic here, too
I wasn't talking about that, [he said, gently poking at her shoulder with whatever it was he had in his hand.] But this problem here. It's annoying, but people are pretty adaptable when need be.
Sounds like politics got complicated, though. I know it's your family and friends, but maybe it's a good idea for you to stay out here a while. Stretch your wings and all.

[ There's a very slight flinch at the poke - even with it bound up and placed in a cast, the break has still left her feeling pretty sore. And a small part of her does feel a bit guilty now: as he's pointed out, her affliction IS only temporary. ]
My s--My Elder sent me here as a representative of our tribe. It's really not that complicated. [there's a peep of agreement from the tiny blue bird on her shoulder, making his presence known again] Why did you go to Caldera?
no subject
Thought I'd stay there a bit to wait out the cold. I don't like travelling too far alone, and not too many caravans want to brave the winter. Caldera's near that volcano, so even when the rest of the place gets chilly, the temperature stays pretty even there.
That, and I thought I'd learn from the local chefs. They've got lots of interesting spices and cooking techniques that I wanted to pick up.

[Her nose wrinkles very slightly; food is hardly a topic she's particularly knowledgeable about but given her earlier rudeness, she does at least make An Attempt]
They're not particularly big on meat here, just so you know. There were some Calderan kitchens that were stocking fare we're more used to, but with everything that has happened.. [she gestures a little with her free hand. As he said, most caravans don't venture out willingly in winter, and the larders that survived were likely a little more bare than before Kyurem's attack] Unionites are also not known for their spice. Sweet things seem to be their speciality.

I've heard all these things-- and it's impressive that they're even able to make do with what they've got right now at all. But, the food wasn't the reason I came to Union in the first place.
...But, that's another matter, and it can wait till the place is cleaned up some more.

Either way, she looks pointedly past him. ]
It is your turn, by the way.
no subject
Yeah, guess it is. [He pased a glance over at her.] Ladies first?
