[It'd been a lot of effort to get all of this together, but secrecy was basically impossible so Rei and company had given up on making Ami's birthday party a surprise one. She was just too sharp, and it would've taken the poker face of a Rock type to manage any sort of secrets from her, so Rei'd just convinced Aurora and Madame Curie to get her out of the way so they could get things set up without having her fuss too much.

The decor was simple, but fitting. A lot of the flame motifs around the shrine had been covered over with watery patterns, and everything was set up around the central fountain. Soft blue light flooded the late summer twilight as many paper lanterns were covered over with cerulean paper to subtly tint everything the proper shade. Several tables and chairs were set up, one for gifts, one for food, and the remainder for guests to sit and eat. Cheerful music played throughout the courtyard on Rei's phonograph, classical pieces with a bit of modern flare, much like Ami herself.

And the food. Oh, the food. Enlisting the help of friends she'd gotten together quite a spread. Fish, steamed vegetables, dumplings, sweets, soups, a small feast all set out for the taking. There was also a sizable drink selection too. Juices, a few kinds of sodas, an interesting Calderan pepper-drink, and even a few light wines.

Basically, Rei had probably gone a little overboard, but it was a party!

OOC: Assume your character was invited if they have CR in any way with Ami! It's a party! Feel free to tag around and mingle, put up your own top level, however you want!

[ Gold is staring at the food table with longing trepidation. Everything smells good, so he'd like to ask one of the other Pokémon (Trainer seems busy) to fetch him a plate, but. But. The last time he ate human food, he ended up at the medic tent, with the birthday girl looking after him. What if he makes the same mistake again?? He came here to thank her for that!!

So instead he just stands here, fur trembling and mouth watering. It all smells so good.

Anybody actually visiting the food, however, had best be careful when fetching fruit. There is a very large cherry in the fruit bowl.

It also has eyes, and is equally terrified. She's stuck!! She climbed in to see what the smell is and now she's stuck! ] Biii...

[A Milotic peered over the side of the bowl. Something in there didn't seem like the others.]

Tic tic?

[ Oh, no, someone else's eyes. Eyes are usually accompanied by a mouth. A mouth is usually accompanied by teeth. And a throat. And a stomach....And here this Cherubi lies, completely defenseless.

She attempts to hide beneath other fruit, but not even Tropius bananas can save her now. ] Cherubiiiii!!

Cheeeeeeeeeeee!! [ There's no one here! She's a banana! A banana!!

....No. Wait. Bananas are also edible. Cherubi abandons her hiding place and begins a new attempt to climb out of the bowl. ]

[Oh! Here... let Myrna help. She held out one of the dangling pieces from the side of her head for Cherubi to try and grip and offered a smile.]

[ The Cherubi stares in horror. Assistance from her would-be consumer kind of defeats the purpose of running away. Plus, look at that mouth. That big, eager mouth.

She scrabbles even faster on the edge of the bowl but only ends up sliding back in. Trapped. Trapped and doomed. She looks like she might cry. ]

[Oh no! Please! Not the crying. Myrna just wanted to help. She reached down with the appendage, using it to pat the Cherubi on the... head? There, there. It was going to be okay.

Here. Myrna could just... scoop the Cherubi out. See? Like this... She slid the appendage under the Cherubi to try giving her a boost out the bowl.]

Cheeeeeee!!! [ Cherubi squeals in confusion as she's first - patted? It almost felt reassuring, except it also felt like she was being tested for ripeness - and then scooped. No, no, no, no. Don't eat herrrr!!

As soon as she's over the lip of the bowl she'll try to fall off Myrna's appendange in an attempt to make a Great Escape. On stubby little cherry feet.

She will not be moving very quickly. ]

[Myrna stared, tilting her head slightly. Then, she ducked down a bit and slithered alongside the Cherubi. Where are you going?]

Milotic?

[ I-it's chasing her!! It's chasing her! Cherubi tries to speed up but only manages to trip and go somersaulting along the table. When she stops, she begins to tear up. Sh-she's scared. She's running because she's so scared. Please don't eat her. Please!! ] Ch-cher. Cherubi biiiiiiiiii!!

Mil... Milotic. Tic tic?

[But... oh no. She thought that?

Myrna shook her head.

She won't eat the Cherubi.]

Milotic mil otic mil.

[ Then why is this Milotic following her? Cherubi cannot think of a single reason why anyone would be interested in her aside from her (hypothetical) delicious flavor. She doesn't try to get up and run, but she does still look scared. ] Cher...

[Myrna smiled. She just wanted to say hi and be friends.]

[ Cherubi is so confused. Bigger Pokémon just don't talk to little Pokémon like her, right? People don't go up to total strangers looking for friendship, right?

But why would this Milotic lie when, if she was going to eat her, she'd have done so already....?

If it's possible for a cherry to be wary, this one is. But she does turn around a bit to face her would-be friend. H-hello...then....eep. ] Bii biii.

[Myrna smiled again.]

Mil.

[Hi. She reached out with one of her head appendages again, patting the little Cherubi on her... cherry?]

Chee!

[ Yelping in surprise is still a step up from fleeing in terror. Cherubi shrinks back but stays for pettins, putting on a brave face to hide the fact that the words "testing for freshness" just flew through her mind. She tries to inch forward in a show of good will and is only half successful because her legs have locked up. ] Che..ru...bi...

[See? Everything is okay!

Myrna just smiled pleasantly and then retracted her 'ear flap'.]

Mil otic mil tic tic?

[Are you having fun at the party?]

Cheru? [ It was a party? She only came along because she was hiding in Trainer's jacket.

Cherubi feels comfortable enough to start looking around. Oh goodness. Where is she.

She might need some extra help from her new friend. ]

[Totally not realizing how it didn't help Cherubi at all, Myrna circled her long serpentine body around her, laying her head down next to her so they were more on eye level.]

Mil mil tic mil?

[Did she want a ride?]

Biii...!! [ She's surrounded!!!

But with nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide, Cherubi has no choice but to take this Milotic at her word. She will not go so far as to say she wants a ride. But she will scrunch herself up in a ball and be very still, so that she can be scooped onto Milotic's back.

Or into Milotic's mouth. She has not fully stopped fearing this possibility. ]

[Myrna didn't quite get the hint from Cherubi's sudden freezing moment, and, instead, easily scooped her up and on to the back of her neck where Cherubi could hold on. Then, carefully, she lifted up so Cherubi could see everything in the room.

See? A party!]

[ Movement!! Movement? Cherubi risks a glance around, nearly gets vertigo from being so high up, and then stares at everything with big shiny eyes. A party. It's....a party. Everyone is having fun. ]

Cheee.

[ She tries to take a step forward, gets scared, and clings to the back of Milotic's neck. Maybe she'll just stay here. Where Milotic's mouth can't reach her. Just in case. ]

[Cherubi can stay there as long as she'd like! Milotic will just wander around the party, keeping herself as steady as possible so Cherubi doesn't fall off.

It's easy to stay steady like that when one didn't walk with legs but slid along the ground like a snake.]
