Friends Don't Let Friends Get Eaten

Who: Yosuke and Teddie
What: A trip out for a small, much needed vacation. It's not going to be as relaxing as he's expecting.
When: Week 81
Where: The Archipelago

A week (give or take) has passed since the exploration of the caves, and Yosuke has been burnt out more than he had even realized. Working at Junes, training to explore his awakened powers plus going through the torment of having some of his deeper, darker parts of him revealed to others has finally taken its toll on the teenager. Being as dedicated to Junes as he is, trying to cram everything he's been up to into only twenty-four hours a day has left him weary. And right now, all he wants is a break. A real break, one where he can relax and hang out. No stress, nothing- and he's got an idea of where to do it. It'll be a few days of travel there and back, though with limited flight, it won't be so bad.

After a long shift at Junes, he sighs as he finishes up organizing some boxes for a shipment they'd just received in the back. Teddie is there helping him, and he takes this opportunity to whine.

"Man, I'm beat! I can't wait to get home so I can start my vacation!" He says, to rub it in Teddie's face.

Teddie patted his paws together once the last box was in it's place. He was a rather proud bear, for only a week had passed by and he was getting the hang of working at Junes. Granted, yeah there were quite a few tasks that he wasn't quite familiar with and had to take some extra time to accomplish. Then again, that's what happens when there's a bear still in training.

Yosuke's whining snapped Teddie out of his thoughts. He turned to face the teenager, about to chime in with how tired he was too, since the boxes were rather heavy. However, the word vacation caught his attention.

"You're going on vacation?" Envy mingled with his tone of surprise. "Where to?"

"I'm heading out to the islands for a bit!" He sounds excited and proud, with a tone that suggests that he's not taking a certain blue bear with him on his trip. He takes his apron off, happy to be done with the day's work and goes to hang it on a hangar in the back with the rest of the Junes aprons.

"The beach, tons of girls, it'll be so great-!" He won't be hitting on them, but he sure as hell is going to at least look. He can window shop as long as he doesn't buy, right?

The islands? He places a paw to his mouth, recalling the string of islands he saw on a map not too long ago. A bear's got to know the area.

"That sounds like a bearel of fun!" The excitement is contagious and it's causing Teddie to daydream about swimming, making sand castles, and even sunbathing.

"Oh! I got an idea! Why don't I go with you?" He figures it would be much more fun to go with someone else rather than by themselves.

"Forget it, bear," he replies immediately. "This is my vacation, and a well earned one at that. I'm trying to get away from the stuff that stresses me out."

He doesn't look all that happy about the idea of bringing Teddie, but he also doesn't want to go by himself either.

"Aw, come on Yosuke!" He whines, not really wanting to be by his bearsome either.

"It's no fun going by yourself. The more the bearier they say!" He chuckled and took note to use that joke for later use.

He groans at the bear pun, and points his finger at Teddie.

"Listen Ted, you're my coworker, and a pokémon. You're not even my pokémon! And you're only here cuz you have to be! So you can't come with." Protest as he might, he's actually considering letting Teddie tag along anyway.

"How does any of that make it so I can't come!?"

It didn't make any sense to him, and he starts flailing his arms while he continues. "Bearsides, I can't just let you go and have fun without me!" He'll find a way join Yosuke somehow.

"No means no, dammit!" He yells back at Teddie. After that, he's decided. He's not letting the bear come.

"I'm not gunna let you ruin my fun down there with that waterworks you have for a nose. No one's gunna wanna come near us! So forget it!" He stomps away, leaving Teddie be. He has things to pack, a trip to make, and an unwelcome discovery when he gets there...

"But-!" He was about to protest, however he stopped himself to watch Yosuke stomp away.

If that's how it was going to be, then Teddie had to get crafty real fast. There was no time to lose, he had to think of a plan to get down to the islands so that he could join in on the fun whether Yosuke liked it or not. Which shouldn't be too hard, right?

He heads home, finishing packing his things. It takes a lot of effort, but letting his mind relax after everything was hard. All this adventure, meeting gods, it really takes it out of a guy. He only takes what he needs, sticking everything into a fairly large backpack. Clothes, swimsuit, sunscreen. Towels. His money is tucked away in his wallet in a side pocket, before he waves goodbye to his dad and takes to the skies, soaring above Union. It's become one of his favorite things to do, going flying- the wind through his hair and the sheer excitement of it never got old.

Over the land he travels, before he finally arrives at his destination much later. It's a tiny little spot, and he breathes in the fresh air before finding a tiny little spot where some buildings were. He walks into the small beachside motel, and there is a surprise for him in the lobby...

There were a series of chairs within the lobby that welcomed those who were in dire need of a seat. Occupying one of the chairs was a particular mutant Cubchoo who rocked his feet, as they couldn't quite touch the ground despite his size, and was sipping on a box of juice that a nice old lady bought for him shortly after arriving. He was content sitting there, but would immediately pull the juice box away from him the moment Yosuke walked through the door.

"Hey Yosuke!" Teddie raised a paw and waved it rapidly out of sheer excitement and that he wanted to make sure he caught the teenagers attention.

He wasn't really paying attention to the bear in the lobby. The giant, four foot Cubchoo that's decided to follow him out here. Not that he had much time. A cheerful voice greets him, and in disbelief, his head turns to see the sight of an unwelcome ice type that's decided to follow him all the way out here.

"Teddie????????????????? How the hell did you get out here? What are you doing here?!"

"It's simple, I took a boat ride here!" He slips off the chair to wander closer to Yosuke, but has a tiny bit of a sway when he moves.

"It wasn't beary hard, but it was a long trip and I feel like I'm still on a boat!" The illusion of self-motion was a strange experience, albeit a little annoying. He wished that he could stand normally and not feel like he has to maintain his balance.

"But!" He says in protest. "I flew here! How the hell did you beat me here?"

His hands find his hips, but he's still in complete shock and disbelief. Plus those aren't the only questions he had, but one step at a time.

"Probably bearcause I came here immediately after work? I didn't have to pack anything." Which meant all he had was the fur on his back and his newly acquired juice box.

"Of course, you could just be too slow!" He shrugs, unsure if the first or second reasoning could be the answer. Then again, both of them could be correct, but there was no way to tell for certain.

"I'm not the one who's slow around here!" He yells, leaning over just to drive that point in. How can he be slower than the bear over here that can't take a hint?

"Since you're here, I guess you can tag along. Not like I can do anything about that now..." He turns on his heel, and goes to get a cheap room for himself. Though, he does make sure that there's at least a couch in it, for Teddie to sleep on.

"Come on, let's go check our room out."

Teddie follows along, feeling a sense of triumph wash over him. He did say that he wasn't going to let Yosuke have fun without him, and look where they were now.

The room wasn't exactly impressive. They got what Yosuke paid for, sure, but there was one particular thing that caught Teddie's attention. It was the bed, one that was big enough for one person and immediately went to it with full intention of jumping onto it.

"Weeeeeeeee!" He dived face first into the mattress and even bounced a little on impact. "Wow, I didn't think they'd give us a bed this bouncy!"

"What are you doing..." He says with exasperation. "Don't jump on the bed. You're not sleeping there anyway." He sets his backpack in the corner, taking a towel and his swim trunks out of it. A few other toiletries come out as well, deodorant, toothbrush and such that gets taken to the bathroom.

He calls from there, inspecting the not-so-clean facility.

"We're going to the fire that's supposed to be out near the edge of the beach tonight. So don't get comfortable!"

He sits up near the edge of the bed, pondering to himself where the heck he's going to sleep if not the bed? He hops off so that the couch could be inspected properly, and the only way to do that was to sit on it. It wasn't as soft as the bed, but it would do.

Teddie turns to where the bathroom is as Yosuke calls out. "But I'm already cubfortable!"

"I don't care! You wanted to come so we're gunna go to the fire!" Stepping out of the bathroom, he picks up his swim trunks and decides that maybe tonight wouldn't be good for swimming. After all, it would be dark in a few hours, and he wouldn't swim late at night.

"Now get your furry behind up. We have to walk there, and there's supposed to be a path through the woods to where it's gunna be."

Frowning a little, he puts his paws on top of his head. "I'm getting up. I'm getting up! Sheesh."

He hops off the couch, glad that he didn't have to take anything with. "Well, you know which way to take, so lead the way, Yosuke!"

Sighing, he heads out the door, not forgetting his key of course. Leading Teddie back out to the lobby, they both exit the small motel. He's pretty sure they have to head to the right, and that the trail through the palm trees wasn't too far from the motel itself. He leads, finding the trail easily enough, looking well stomped down at this point for any tourists that decided to come here. Torches line the path, and Yosuke's mood lifts with the idea of a good party at the end.

"Oh man, I wonder what kinda food they'll have over there. I'm starving, I haven't eaten since I left!" Nor has he gone to the bathroom, but he can't pee with Teddie around right now.

"If we're close enough, I may be able to sniff it out!" He stops and brings his nose up into the air so that he could catch the scent of food.

"Sniff sniff." He picks up on something, but he can't tell what it is. "I smell something that-a way!" He points a paw in a direction that lead off the path. "I bet that we'll get there faster if we bear-line to it!"

Without a second thought, Teddie strays off the trail and into the underbrush.

"Huh? No, we're sticking to the pa- hey!" And off Teddie goes, before Yosuke can even finish protesting. It's going to get dark sometime soon, and the last thing he needs is the bear going off on his own on an island that they don't even know. He gives chase, yelling at the mutant Cubchoo that's decided he's going to 'help' by sniffing out the party.

"How the hell can you even smell anything anyway, it's like you've got a permanent cold with that snot hanging out of your nose! Get back here!"

He keeps going despite Yosuke's protesting, though eventually, he will have to stop to sniff again. "Sniff sniff. Sniff sniff sniff." Teddie turns every which way, trying to pick up the scent of food again, but to no avail.

"Uh, Yosuke." He sounded frightened and was just now realizing that b-lining toward the party was a terrible idea, especially now that it had gotten dark. "I-I can't smell the food anymore."

He catches up, only a little short of breath. All that training he's been doing has helped with that, though he doesn't notice his increased fitness at the moment.

"What do you mean you can't smell the food anymore?! Why'd you run off the path?! We coulda gotten there just fine that way!" He's really pissed off now. This stupid bear...he...

"You totally got us lost! Let's just go back, the way we came, okay?!"

"I could smell it just fine earlier, and I thought we could get there faster this way!" Guilt quickly replaced all the excitement he had earlier. He didn't mean to get them lost, he just wanted to eat and have fun a lot sooner.

"Okay, but-" There was one problem that Teddie quickly came to realize. "Which way did we come from? Bearcause now I can't tell."

"Uh..." He takes a look around. The vegetation and trees made it hard to decipher, and he honestly doesn't know which way is back. "Didn't we come from that way? Shit, Ted! You got us really freaking lost!"

He feels the panic beginning to rise. His thoughts aren't completely clear, looking around frantically. Something had to look familiar. But the fact is, nothing does. It's nothing but trees. But before Yosuke can yell more, there's a rustling sound from one of the trees above them.

"What was that-!"

Nearly everything was a dark silhouette by now, and what Teddie could make out had to be directly in front of him. Sometimes the cover of darkness had been a valuable asset when it came to escaping a couple of terrors, but in their current situation it was a liability.

"I bet my beary butt it's a grizzly!" He goes and steps closer to Yosuke, prepared to duck behind him should anything decide to jump out. Teddie wasn't sure how good Yosuke's fighting capabilities were, but he figured it was far better than his own. Which was next to nothing.

"Shut up!" He hisses back to Teddie, looking upwards at the offending tree. He stares the best that he can, even with the dimming light to try to catch a glimpse of what might be there. It might be something small and harmless, for all he knew. At that thought, he calms down only a little bit.

"It's probably just a squirrel or something..."

Until a flapping noise emits from it, and something swoops down at the two of them. Yosuke yells, ducking, as it barely grazes the top of his head.

He keeps his mouth shut, however Yosuke's statement on whatever just spooked them was not reassuring. Teddie knew better than that, he needed to know exactly what they were encountering before the very thought of relaxing could cross his mind.

Teddie remained tense, and the moment he heard the sound of flapping he would already duck as low to the ground as possible with both paws covering the top of his head.

"Eeeeeeek! It's definitely a grizzly!"

"Okay! Definitely not a squirrel!!!" He scrambles, and takes off in a direction that he hopes is the right way, back to the beach. The pokemon that's emerged from the trees follows, the flapping noise close behind.

This seems to be a consistent problem for Yosuke, running through the woods from pokemon chasing him.

"Run!!!!"

"You don't have to tell me twice!" He does his best to stay right on Yosuke's heels, not wishing to lag behind enough for some grizzly to make a snack out of him.

If there was one thing Teddie learned while living in the canyon, it was how to outrun or hide from a flying menace. Unfortunately he's not accustomed to the woods, thus, avoiding obstacles that could potentially trip anyone wasn't exactly in his skillset.

"Wah!" Something catches his foot, and the next thing Teddie knows is that he's falling face first into the ground with a thud.

Yosuke looks behind him when Teddie cries out, seeing the bear face first in the dirt. Sliding across the ground as he tries to pivot and turn, dirt kicks up as he runs back to his coworker with teeth gritted and a sour demeanor.

"Stupid bear, dammit..." He hits the ground and tries to help Teddie up in a rush, but all of a sudden with a Screech, the unknown pokemon descends on them and starts to get tangled in Yosuke's hair. He flails, trying to dislodge it, and it lands on Teddie's back. Flapping can be heard as it Screeches again, forcing Yosuke to cover his ears.

"Get offa him-!" He yells as he tries to grab for the frantic pokemon who's freaking out on Teddie's back. He manages to throw it off, and moves yet again to help pick Teddie up...

One good thing was that the landing wasn't as hard as it could be, but the Screeching made up for that. Teddie kept his ears covered after the first one, but such wouldn't last long as he would start flailing about the moment the pokemon landed on his back.

"Eeeeeeeek! Get it off get it off get it off!" He started to roll back and forth in hopes to shake the pokemon off his back, and would stop only after Yosuke tossed it off of him.

With a sigh of relief, Teddie would happily and quickly accept Yosuke's help to get him back on his feet. "Phew! Thanks for saving my beary butt!"

"Shut your bearhole and start running!" He says as he pulls Teddie to his feet. But unfortunately, he doesn't have time to do anything else as the pokemon quickly returns. Yosuke steps in front of Teddie, letting his concentration fall onto the very wind around them, and starts to whip up a Whirlwind attack to blow the creature back.

"If you want Teddie, you're gunna have to go through me!"

He shouts, making sure the Cubchoo behind him was protected.

Teddie does what he's told and runs behind Yosuke, only to end up hiding behind one of the nearby trees. He wasn't going to leave his friend despite the fact that he couldn't fight, but he could still give support in some way shape or form.

He peeks out from the side of the tree to watch what was about to unfold.

"Careful Yosuke! We don't know what this grizzly even looks like!"

The whirlwind attack blows it back, and Yosuke hears it land on the ground again in a heap. It hadn't done any damage to the pokemon, but startled it with the sudden gust of wind. There's another screech, but much quieter this time, as sounds are made of a pokemon walking towards them instead of flapping. Yosuke's hands go up, in some kind of pseudo form of self defense, cursing to himself that he hadn't brought his kunai along for the trip. There is no sudden movements, but there is a dark outline of something standing in front of the teenager.

It's a bat, oddly colored for its species. It chirps an apology, and to Teddie, it's just asking for food. It's hungry, and it was trying to get their attention. It hadn't meant to startle them, and then it got confused and thought that screeching at them was helping.

"Teddie, what's it saying?" Yosuke asks hurriedly.

Teddie's ears wiggle a bit as the bat explains itself before he steps out from behind the tree. He steps closer to get a better look, but remains behind Yosuke for the time being.

"It says that it's sorry for scaring us and that it was just asking for food. The poor guy's just hungry and wanted our attention!" He felt bad for the bat, as he knew what it felt like to not have the satisfaction of having food in his stomach. Living in the wild could be rough sometimes.

"We should probably help 'em out! Living on an empty stomach is just unbearable!"

"Then why the heck did it attack us." Arms akimbo, he leans over at it, squinting in the darkness. He can sort of make it out now. He's not sure what it is exactly, he's never seen a pokemon like this one before. The bat explains, it hadn't meant to attack, it's just really excited about food. Like, really excited. It loves food. A lot. It goes on to talk about all the cool things its eaten over the years, and how tourists used to feed it food. Tourists were fairly new around here, and so it can't help but be excited about human consumption and how good it all tastes.

It clicks a few times at Teddie, thanking him for translating. And woah, you're a big bear.

Teddie listens carefully, and when the bat begins to list off some of food it's eaten over the years, Teddie's eyes begin to sparkle. "You've eaten all of those!? They all sound good!"

He takes note to try some of the things that had been listed off before going to translate for Yosuke. "It didn't mean to attack us, it just gets excited about food! I can understand why, human food is bearlicious!" It sure beats anything out in the wilderness.

"You mean all of this chaos was over some brats and burgers...?" He can feel the beginnings of annoyance creeping up on him. His arms fold, seemingly unhappy with the situation as it stood.

"Lost in the woods, getting chased by a bat just because it wanted a snack- and now it's totally dark! We didn't even get to see one bikini! Not one!" Life is hard when you're Yosuke Hanamura. The little bat introduces itself to Teddie, and asks if it can tag along. It can probably lead them out of here if they let him.

"Of course you can tag along!" Despite getting chased and becoming lost in the woods, Teddie was rather excited about their newfound friend. Now he just needed to cheer up Yosuke.

"Don't worry Yosuke, we can get out of here and to the beach beary easily! Our friend here can help lead us out!"

"Let's just go back to the motel or something..." He sulks. Life sucks. It really does. It's not fair and it hates him for the most part, he's convinced. All he wanted was to have a relaxing day here, see some pretty girls, eat good food. But with this bear around, he's not so sure if he'll ever get to enjoy life.

"Yo, bat, can you just take us back to where we came from? I need some serious R&R after a day like this." The Noibat chirps happily back, of course it can. It turns, the small patter of its feet in front of the two as it leads back towards the motel, looking forward to a good meal and new friends.
