Kili is Still Prone to Stupid [closed]

Who: Kili and Thorin
What: After the event, Kili needs to talk to his uncle.
When: Post-event (forward dated)
Where: Dwarfhaus

[After reassuring Fili that he was okay, alive and home, Kili leaves his brother to go shower and track down his uncle. If Fili had a bad time down there, he can't imagine that Thorin was okay either.

He goes down to the forge, suddenly feeling like a six year old caught stealing from the cookie jar. His team is elsewhere, so it's just Kili who goes looking for Thorin]

[He'd seen Fili safely out of the tunnels, but going down there over again has taken its toll. Seeing what he saw... it wore him down to the bone the first time around. Now he's not sure what he's left with.

He is indeed at the forge, and he too is by himself for now, trying to pull himself back together and glad for the silence. No work is getting done today. Just a breather before he goes on home.]

[Kili is quiet as he goes through the forge. When he spots Thorin, he stops.]

...uncle?

[darer]

[ Thorin sat down on a bench, arms on his knees and head lowered. More exhausted than he can recall feeling, even after the last time the gods were involved. Where he's normally alert, now he's practically lost to the world, head snapping up when spoken to. Immediately he gets to his feet. ]

Kili. I'm so glad you're back.

[youngestone]

[Kili doesn't meet Thorin's eyes, clearly worried]

Are you okay? Hayato told me you went down there...

[darer]

[ Thorin shakes his head. ]

I did, and shouldn't have. It hit your brother worse than it did me.

[ Not that that's saying much. ]

[youngestone]

I'm sorry. It's my fault.

[darer]

No. You're the only one of us who had enough sense to stay out of them.

[youngestone]

You wouldn't've gone down there if I hadn't run off like an idiot.

[darer]

[Thorin steps closer, places a hand on Kili's shoulder.]

It was our own choice.

[youngestone]

[He can't meet Thorin's eyes]

Because I was an idiot and ran off because everyone was mad at me!

[darer]

[ Thorin gives a frustrated, half-hissed exhale, lowers his head a moment. His grip on Kili's shoulder tightens. He's giving up on keeping old frustrations boxed in. ]

Yes, you were a fool and you should have known better, and if you'd spoken to even one of us before leaving, instead of leaving a note, all this might have been avoided! Do you know how many experienced Rangers go out and never make it back? And you didn't so much as say a word in parting.

[youngestone]

I wasn't sure where I was going--and I didn't want you guys following me!

[Kili's able to move away from his uncle's grip, though he still won't look at him]

And that wasn't what I was talking about anyway. I was talking about leaving after I got back because I knew this was going to happen and I wanted to give you both a chance to calm down before I came back and got my ass chewed out for doing stuff both of you have done.
